A lonely girl in a busy world
Eliana I stood at the mountain and gazed towards the pack where the event of the year was taking place. I could see the arrival of guests from other packs and how beautiful everyone looked. Somehow, I looked at myself and my face fell. I was currently wearing a torn and worn out dress that I had luckily found in the trash a while ago. It was my best fit for the event and even if I’ve been banned from attending, I thought it was still wise to look the best way possible. I slowly sat down on the rock, with my gaze focused on the glamorous pack event. It was best to stay here…it was my place of peace and comfort. My name is Eliana and I live at Blue moon pack like an outcast. Truth is, I’m beginning to see myself as one because for the past 5 years, I’ve never felt what it’s like to be cared for. Everyone hated me here. The Alpha, his son, the beta…every single person. A little backstory here. Five years ago, everything was perfectly normal. I was that bright young girl in the pack, admired and loved by many including the Alpha. My parents loved me to the core and ensured I had everything I wanted. They were the pack healers, valued by all in the pack. The thing is, my parent's name travelled far and wide because of how possible it was for them to treat any form of ailment. There were rumors too that the moon goddess usually visited my parents to instill the wisdom known only to her upon them. That way, it was possible for them to heal people swiftly. I loved my parents dearly and was also a witness to how much they loved each other. They worked together, taught each other, learned from each other, and their love story was nothing short of perfect. Everything changed after the war with Mooncrest pack. I still remember that night like it happened yesterday. Moon crest pack had attacked ours, killing a countless number of us and leaving many others injured. The damage was not just to our pack. Members of Moon crest pack also suffered great loss and injuries. This meant that there was a massive demand for healers. My parents came in handy that period, using their skills to administer treatment on the werewolves that were hurt. Some days later, we had some visitors in our home. It was a couple, a beautiful one. The husband was hurt and almost at the verge of dying. However, they were from moon crest pack. “Take pity on us and heal my husband”, the lady had pleaded as she dropped her husband on the floor, with tears pouring out of her eyes. I can still remember how my parents took them to the hidden room, with fear and panic all over their faces. They were from the enemy pack, but they needed help. From a corner, I watched my parents argue about helping them or sending them away. I really did wish they sent them away because that became the reason for their death. Their compassion and need to help people, no matter the pack they have come from was their ticket to death. They tried so hard to keep it a secret, but it was not long before the news spread that the healers were harboring the enemies. The way and manner my parents were dragged to the front of the court was heartbreaking. They were treated like criminals and there, I couldn’t help but watch the Alpha and Beta who kept screaming “Suffer not a traitor to live!”. “We just had to save his life. Please…we mean no harm”, my father had cried out, but not a single soul paid heed. “How are we sure that they aren’t the ones giving out the pack information to the enemy pack?” One of the council members suggested and to my dismay, every single person agreed. Not even one person stood up to stand for my parents. Not even the ones that had been healed by them before. Everyone’s lips spoke hurtful words against them. “We have to kill them. We will only spare the child because she had no idea of this”, the Alpha declared his final verdict and was supported by his council. That night, I watched how my parents were hanged in the middle of the pack, with everyone raising their noses in disgust at them and me. I was 13, but was wise enough to know that my life would never remain the same. From that day until this day, I became the most hated person living in the pack. I’ve thought of killing myself countless times, but I do know that both the moon goddess and my parents would never forgive me for such. And so, I have to live as the outcast of Blue moon pack. *** The sound of music playing from the pack event hall jerked me back to the present and swiftly, I wiped the tears that had soaked my face. Today was a special day here in Blue moon pack. It was the “day of assembly” just like they called it. A gathering of werewolves from various packs to come mingle and see if they will find their mates. It was believed that the moon goddess loves the gathering of wolves and would bless those without a mate whenever she finds a massive gathering. This made the gathering to be one that was highly regarded and greatly prepared for. There were people in particular this event was made for. Firstly, for people who wished to party with their friends in the Blue moon pack. Secondly, for people who failed to find their mate on their 18th birthday. Thirdly, for people without a wolf, which means they won’t have a mate and which also means they can find a like mind to mingle with. For me, I fall in the second category. I have my wolf, “Mila”. She showed up on my 18th birthday 2 weeks ago, and goddess knows how excited I was to meet my mate that day. But then, until this day, I haven’t. This meant that my mate was taking time to show up, or was I destined to live without a mate? The super event that would have given me a chance to find an answer was not close to my reach because the Alpha’s voice still rang in my ears. “The child of a traitor must not be seen in any social gathering!” At this, I remained here…sad, hopeful, lost, patient, and lonely. Just as I drew in a deep breath to calm my troubled soul, the air came in with a mixture of a very unfamiliar but pleasant scent. “What’s that scent?” I asked and quickly stood up, looking around as the itch to find the scent set in. It was heavenly. Something was drawing me to that scent, and even if I had planned to remain on the mountain top until the end of the event, I couldn’t. In a split second, I was on my heels, racing down the mountain and heading towards the event hall where the scent seemed to come from. Mila was excited too and so, we didn’t stop. We got into the crowd, pushed some others aside and finally settled at the front of a very familiar face. And then, inside, I heard Mila scream. “Mate! Our mate!”.
