Lighted Candle

It was a cold night in the village when an hour passed of power interruption had occurred. Nora, a young girl at 17 is having a fit on reading her modules in a quivering candle that was being dwindled by a whispering wind. A minute seems to be like an hour longer for the 2 pesos candle to loosen its wick and turns to a gradual small size. The soft light of the candle made her want to close her eyes and fall asleep. Therefore, she went to her room and lay in her bed. She was about to close her eyes when a sudden flash of lights reached the lids of her eyes. “The electric current has return”, shouts from the kid of the neighborhood. However, it was only in their neighborhoods’ houses that were lighted by the electricity. Illuminating fancy Christmas decorations had danced in Nora’s gazed as she watch her neighbors’ light series and lanterns from her window. She remembered that they did not pay the electric bill that already has a noticed of disconnection. Thus, it is no wonder why their single incandescent light in the living room would not turn on.  Living as an orphan since the age of 15 alongside a 10-year-old brother, now at 12, who has an autism, made her become responsible in selling candles near the cathedral church. Their aunt who is 65 years old who did not get married and bore children had decided to adopt them for reasons of concerns and empathy. It would always be a new challenge for Nora to face another morning because she must have to work by day through selling candles and would study for her printed modules at night. Her aunt used to wash clothes in some rich subdivision just to help sustain the roof over their head, but now that the pandemic has an immense outbreak, she must stay at home and look after her health, especially when she has an asthma that was said to be a high risk of developing coronavirus.  Nora would always get tired throughout the day, but she has no choice but to get up and look for living.
