Chapter 2

"You found 2... dragons?" He questioned turning to her. "Its kinda a long story... well I guess actually not that long, I saw a shooting star and it turns out it wasn't a star or whatever and it crashed into the woods and this morning I went to see it and I found this egg and they came out of it?" She told him awkwardly. Seth turned back to look at the 2 creatures who now stared at him, before he turned back to Siya. He opened his mouth to talk and yet no words came out. "I wanna say im surprised but strangely im not" he said before bursting out into laughter and walking over to the couch and sitting down. Siya walked over and sat next to him. "What are we gonna fo with them?" He asked looking into her eyes. "I dont know" she told him. "But i couldn't just leave them out there to be eaten" she told him. "Something tells me they would have done the eating" he replied, causing Siya to elbow him. "You know we cant tell anyone about them, right?" Seth told her as the blue one knocked down a pot off the stove like a cat. "I know, nothing good would come from anyone knowing about them, they would take them and try to use them for bad things, what im not exactly sure but nothing good" she replied. "But one day their gonna grow and we dont know how fast that will happen or how big they will get and the trees can only hide them for so long" she added. "You found them" said Seth as the black one made its way over and looked up at her. "Got any names in mind?" He asked. "This one will be Thalor" she said holding her hand down for him to crawl on it. When he did she gently picked him up. "It means light" she added. "But hes black?" Seth questioned. "But his eyes are yellow like the sun" she replied. "And that one will be Valkyra" she added, it means chooser of the slain I guess" she said. "You Oogled these names didn't you?" He questioned. "Of course" she said obviously. The days passed quickly after Thalor and Valkyra came into their lives. Within days valkyra made her first attempt to fly off the counter, but was quickly annoyed when she crashed to the floor instead. "Aw what happened?" Siya asked as she ran and picked her up off the floor. "Are you ok you didnt hurt yourself did you?" She asked with concern as she wiped some dirt off of valkyras blue face. Valkyra simply chirped before jumping out of her arms and attempting to fly again, making siya chuckle. A few days later, was when Siya and Seth learned that real dragons could in fact breathe real fire. They discovered this when Thalor was outside chasing a small rabbit and grew annoyed when he couldn't catch it and set a tree on fire. And their size... well in the span of a week Thalor and Valkyra went from fitting in the palm of Siyas hand to being the size of a Great Dane. Seth and Siya knew that if that continued to grow at this rate it wouldn't be long before they no longer fit in the house. So Siya would sit on the porch drinking coffee with her two pet dragons beside her as she watched Seth build a barn. He refuse ro let her help wanting to make sure the two trouble makers didn't cause more trouble. Than while Seth went to work at night, Siya lay stretched across the couch, Thalor's warm, heavy tail draped over her legs while Valkyra's blue-scaled head rested on her stomach. The cabin was quiet, the kind of deep quiet that only existed in the woods at night. Then... A sharp c***k outside. Not loud, but wrong. Too heavy to be a branch falling. Siya froze. Thalor lifted his head, pupils narrowing to thin slits. Valkyra chirped uneasily. Siya gently slid out from under them, padded across the living room, and opened the gun cabinet. Her hands were steady, she'd grown up around firearms, but her pulse had already started to climb. She grabbed the 12‑gauge shotgun, checked the chamber, and flicked on the exterior floodlights one by one. The yard lit up in harsh white beams, cutting through the darkness. She stepped outside, boots crunching on gravel. The cold air bit her cheeks. She scanned the tree line, the porch, the roofline. Nothing. She exhaled, tension easing. The bear exploded out of the dark. A massive brown blur, all muscle and teeth, barreling toward her with a roar that vibrated her ribs. Siya dove sideways, hitting the ground hard, shotgun still clutched in her hands. The bear skidded, turned, and charged again, this time with full intent. It wasn't bluffing. It wanted her dead. Siya scrambled up, braced the shotgun, and fired... Click. A dry, hollow sound. The gun jammed. Her stomach dropped. She tried to rack it again, fingers slipping, adrenaline spiking... The bear lunged. A flash of black scales streaked across her vision. Thalor hit the ground between her and the bear, wings flaring wide. He inhaled sharply, chest expanding... And unleashed a torrent of fire. The flames struck the bear point‑blank, engulfing it in a burst of orange heat. The creature collapsed mid‑charge, momentum dying instantly as the fire consumed it. The smell of burning fur filled the air. Siya stared, stunned, shotgun limp in her hands. Thalor turned his head toward her, smoke curling from his jaws, eyes still glowing with protective fury. She swallowed hard, voice barely a whisper. "…Thalor?" He lowered his head, nudging her shoulder gently, an apology, a reassurance, a promise. Siya looked from the charred bear to the dragon who had just saved her life, her breath shaking. She had known they were powerful. But she had never seen this. Meanwhile a mile away from the cabin... Bright lights lit up the dark woods. Caution tape surrounded a small perimeter. And in the center of it was a man with a suit and a badge. Even though he was kneeling. One could tell he was tall. His brown hair had hints of Grey in it and a woman stood behind him waiting for what order he was about to give her. "Whatever came out of this egg is long gone" said the man as he turned to her. "Find it" he demanded. "Yes sir" the woman replied. TO BE CONTINUED
