Moonlit Secrets

CHAPTER 2

SELENE’S POV

I wake up to the bright light of day hitting my face through my windows. I got up and stretched my body, still feeling a bit tired from the party last night . I proceeded to get ready for today as I remembered that father said he was going to introduce me to my personal trainer who was supposed to help prepare me to become the leader of the pack someday . But in all honesty, I’d much rather not have one. I feel I can master my abilities myself, but father clearly thinks otherwise. I guess it’s for the best anyway.

I’m done getting dressed and I take a look at myself in the mirror . I really love how my waist-length auburn hair compliments my emerald green eyes. I mouth a few affirming words to myself before I head down to the dining room for breakfast. On my way, I overheard two male voices coming from my father's studies . I couldn’t help but get curious as to what they were talking about, so I hid by the door to listen. “What do you mean that after all these years you still haven’t gotten any leads on the Catenae Pack??” Father said angrily to the Beta of our pack Leidolf. “I have done my best , I have used every sense I have and so have other wolves of our pack but the Catenae pack seem to have just vanished” . Leidolf replied, sounding scared. My father growled and his voice changed, “ You know the only reason I keep you alive is because you know everything, otherwise you’d be food for the vultures and other bloody scavengers across all the realms” he slammed his fist on the table and said again this time even angrier “you will continue to search for The Catenae pack with your life because that is the only way I can get the moonstone and you know what will happen to you if I do not get it now go!!!!!! Get outttttt!!!!. I heard father shout and quickly leave my hiding position and pretended to be walking by . “Good morning father”. I greeted him, pretending not to have heard a single word. They just said “Good morning Selene, I hope you’re ready to meet your trainer today.”

He said with a nice warm smile on his face. I’m still shocked at how he switched from the anger of a volcano to the calmness a stream in a few minutes. “I’m ready father, I just want to have breakfast first. “

I say to him, then he gestures for me to go ahead and I leave.

At breakfast I couldn’t help but wonder why father needed that moonstone so badly . And the pack of Catenae I grew up with the tale that they had just disappeared from the land of moonlight. Perhaps Father needs this moonstone to help our pack, but it’s his anger I couldn’t quite understand. The sound of the doors breaks me away from my thoughts. I see my mother coming into the dining room. “Selene dearest “ she mouths as she gives me a kiss on my forehead. “ your trainer has arrived and he’s right outside why don’t you finish up quickly so you can go meet him” she says as she sits for her own breakfast. “Sure mother I’ll be out shortly” I reply . “Father won’t be joining me for breakfast?” She asks “ I don’t know mom but I guess he’ll be down soon” I give her an awkward smile because at the back of my mind I was still thinking back to his heated conversation with Leidolf. I got up to leave the dining room. As I walked toward the door I imagined my trainer to be a middle-aged werewolf who would give me nothing but a boring time and lecture me literally all the time. “Let’s just get this over with”, I heave a sigh to myself. I walked out the doors and I was completely shocked to see who my trainer is. “Good morning miss Selene we meet once again”.

Those familiar midnight blue eyes greeted me again . My trainer is non other than Olcan !!. I was lost in stare, but I snapped back when he noticed and said “is anything the matter miss?” “ so it’s “miss Selene” now all of a sudden?” I say with a smirk on my face . He looks at me once again hypnotizing me with his eyes and says “ I have to be formal on duty do I not miss?” . “I’d prefer for you to call me Just Selene” I just said with a gentle smile . He replies “ Well then “just Selene” it’s a pleasure to meet you again. I suppose we had better get started on your training “ he says gesturing me to walk beside him . “ Sure thing so where do we start?” . He smiles and asks me to follow him.

We finally arrived at the Everglade Training fields . This is where most werewolves come to master their abilities and all of their senses. They say that it has quite the surge for energy and power. That’s why it’s such a good spot to train . I can feel my energy just by standing in the soft grass alone. “Today we’re going to start off with basics . Your hearing senses. As werewolves, we have the ability to hear things at a distance without needing to go towards the source of sound and to harness that ability it enables you to be master the art of total calmness”, he says so formally. I admit that I was happy having him as my trainer, but not this stiff Olcan . I want more of the ones I met yesterday at my party . He proceeds to show me how to harness my listening sense. He sits on the sift grass, his midnight blue eyes shut and his ears elongated a little. “There’s a woodpecker constantly pecking that giant oak tree ahead” he says after he opens his eyes. “And how sure are you that you didn’t hear something else?” I ask with a grin. “We’ll have to clarify that “just Selene” “ he says with a confident grin as he gestures for me to follow him. We walk towards the tree and he shows me the wood pecker he heard earlier and I admit that I’m awed. “Well, I guess Sir Olcan wasn’t wrong after all “ he laughs and says “sir Olcan? That makes me sound like a middle-aged teacher please I’m just a year above 20” the way he laughed so casually," Yes !!! That’s the Olcan I want to know and see. There is just something about him other than his looks that just wants to make me know more about him. I feel so familiar with him and I won’t lie. Thoughts of him being my mate are in my head I guess I’ll just have to find out.. “Well, Selene, it’s your turn to try out the lesson “ he says, pulling me out of my thoughts. “right” replied . I sit down and try to feel my surroundings. I feel my ears elongating and suddenly it feels as though I’m hearing just the rush of wind, then the sound starts getting louder . It sounds like huge footsteps and a large flapping of wings, but it feels so close . “Selene Run!” Is the next thing I hear and I look up to see A large Chimera flying towards us. I freeze in shock but Olcan quickly grabs me and we both start sprinting as fast as we can.
