Arlo's Room

"Should we befriend him?"

"I don't know, Greer. You wanna be his friend?"

"Yeah, he seems cool."

"Well, your friends are our friends," Bobby said as the trio kept walking.

"College won't be so bad, it seems," Arlo said to himself as he watched them walk away. He dragged his stuff to his room.

When he got there, he knocked just to confirm if he had a roommate. No one opened the door, so he proceeded to go in. He pushed his luggage aside, spread his body out on the bed, and sighed, looking up as if he was thinking. Slowly, he fell asleep.

Krrrr!

Arlo heard the door creak, waking him from his sleep.

"Ooh, who's this?" said Jude."Oh, hello! I see you are sleeping on my bed. Were you assigned to sleep here?"

"Yes," Arlo said in a shy voice, struggling to look up.

"Ohhh, greatttttt! Nice meeting you. I'm Jude."

"Arlo," he replied, slowly raising his head.

"Maybe you should arrange your stuff and create some space here. And the upper bed is yours, cause you got here late."

"Okay," Arlo said softly.After a day of settling in, their classes began. Arlo woke up a bit late and found his roommate already gone. He got dressed and quickly got ready to leave. Outside, he noticed that his room was a bit separate from the other boys' rooms—almost like it was its own building. Nothing unusual about that, he thought. He then ran to class.

THUMP! Arlo bumps into somebody.

CLATTER! Books and pens fall to the ground.

He immediately panics, apologizing frantically while scrambling on his knees to pick up the mess. She stands there quiet, looking down at him, waiting to be given her books. Arlo gets up and hands her books back, giving her a familiar look. She takes her things without a word and keeps walking. Arlo watches her as she leaves, then hurries to class.

"Heyyy," Bobby says, joining Cleo on her walk. "Why were you standing there with that boy?" she asks in a teasing voice.

"Nothing," Cleo says.

"Okayyyyy."

They keep walking to class.
