Chapter 6- Secrets

1890 Words
Katie’s POV David and I walked in silence while we made our way toward my room. I honestly don’t know what to think! David has never asked me not to say something that was on my mind, so I figured he had a reason. We stepped into my room and, as he closed the door, I turned around to face him. “What was that about?” I asked him. He looked up, and as his eyes met mine, I saw them flicker with an emotion I had never seen on his face… fear. “What’s wrong David?” “I’m not sure.” “Why did you not want me to say anything? You have never done that to me before.” He shook his head while running his hands over his face and through his hair. “There is a reason the Elder pulled my Dad into his office. First, there was someone outside listening to our conversation,” I stood there frozen with my mouth hanging open. I didn’t sense anyone. “And there is something the Elder knows. What it is, I am not sure of, but I believe the reason he wanted to talk to my Dad privately about it is because of our unwanted guest.” “I didn’t sense anyone else David. There were nine of us total out front.” He shook his head again, “No Katie, there were ten. Our unwanted guest was hiding in the tree line. He thought he wasn’t seen, and I want it that way. He has been following us all day.” “All day? Where? When?” “I first sensed him at the lake. He didn’t follow while we were driving, for obvious reasons, but he was hiding when we came back. “Why didn’t you say anything?” “Because… they think they are being sneaky. They obviously don’t want anyone to know they are there, so I want to see what they are up to.” “That’s dangerous, what if they are the one who killed your Mom? Did you ever think about that?” David nodded his head. “I have, and they could be. However I have their scent, so if I come across it, I will know. I want to play this out and see where it goes.” I shook my head. I don’t know what on earth he is thinking. David is, usually, not reckless. I can’t help but feel this is going to come back and bite him in the ass. Something inside me is telling me that this person, whoever they are, is up to no good and that this is going to turn very bad, very quick. “David, I think you should tell your Dad. That way someone else knows. See if he sensed them and have him keep this to himself for now. I know the Elders are here, but we don’t know them, and you never know who or what could happen.” “Katie, you worry too much.” “I mean it! I don’t trust them. Call me paranoid, but that Elder accused me of knowing who killed your Mom, my Luna, when I have no clue. I don’t like him! And I especially don’t like being accused of things that I know nothing about.” With that being said, I turned and walked into my bedroom in the condo. I didn’t even wait for David to respond. The last thing I need is for someone to tell me I’m crazy. I already feel like it. I walked to my bed and decided to take a nap. Too much has happened today. I don’t know when Mom and Dad will be back, and I don’t feel like talking to anyone. I crawled on my bed and pulled my blanket over my head trying to disappear into sleep. David’s POV Katie disappeared into her bedroom. I can’t blame her for feeling the way she does. What I can do though is try and help get it resolved. I turned, opened the door and was met by the Beta. “Good morning, Beta.” “David.” He said with his head down. “I am sorry for what happened. If I had been here….” “It’s not your fault James. Whoever did this would more than likely have done it whether you were here or not.” He nodded. “Where is Katie?” “She is in her room, one of the Elders upset her pretty bad. She had asked me to come with her, but then got upset with me. I am on my way to find my Dad to get some answers about what is going on.” “Alright, do you want me to link him to see where he is?” I shook my head, “No, I have a pretty good idea.” He nodded his head and stepped aside for me to pass. I walked down the hall and up the flight of stairs to the Alpha’s floor. I made it to his office and knocked. “Come in!” “It’s me Dad.” I opened the door and entered, seeing Elder Graham still sitting in the office with my Dad. “Dad, Elder.” I said with no emotion in my tone. “David, what is it you need?” My Dad asked. “I was coming to talk to you about what went on downstairs, but seeing as Elder Graham is still here, I can just ask him.” My Dad looked at me and c****d his head, “what about what happened downstairs?” “Well, Katie is quite upset over Elder Graham’s question. She feels like he was accusing her of having something to do with Mom’s death.” Elder Graham’s eyebrows rose in shock. “Oh no, that was not my intent at all.” Elder Graham stated. “David, what do you know about Katie? About her lineage?” I furrowed my brows at his question. “What do you mean? She is our Beta’s daughter; she is a wolf just like us.” Elder Graham looked down and shook his head. “Oh, young Alpha, you have no idea. She is so much more than just a wolf.” I looked to the Elder, “What do you mean more than just a wolf?” My eyes shooting back and forth between the Elder and my father. “David, “my Dad spoke and got my attention. “You know how we have always loved Katie’s eyes because they are so beautiful and unique?” I nodded not having a clue of where he was going with this. “The color is because, apparently, Katie is part witch. Not just any witch either. She is a part of the royal family.” My mouth hit the floor, and it felt like all of the oxygen had been sucked out of the room. My mind started racing. The dream she had last night…. Is that part of it? “David,” the Elder spoke. “Has Katie said anything to you? Something that may help us?” I looked at him confused. “What do you mean?” “One of the gifts that can be passed along through the royal family is the gift of foresight. I am wondering if Katie has begun to come into her powers, and possibly saw this before it happened.” I looked at my Dad and back to the Elder. I hung my head and shook it, knowing that I could not keep my friend’s secret. “If I tell you this…” I started. Both the Elder and my Dad looked at me eyes wide enough to pop out of their heads at any moment. I bowed my head and took in a deep breath. “Katie came to me earlier. She is scared because she does not know what is happening to her. She has sworn me to secrecy, which in turn means if I tell you, I will expect the same.” They both nodded, understanding why I was asking this of them. “Katie had a dream last night. She said that she woke from it at about 2am.” They both look to one another, then back to me. “What was her dream?” Elder Graham asked. I proceeded to tell my Dad and Elder Graham everything that Katie had told me, including that she wanted this to stay with as few people as possible. I felt horrible telling the information, feeling like I was betraying my best friend, but this was something that needed to be done for the safety of the pack. Katie may be angry as hell at me later, but if it keeps her safe, I can live with that. Once I finished telling them everything Katie had told me, my Dad looked at me with wide eyes. “Son, are you sure Katie was just dreaming?” I c****d my head. “That’s what she said, and Katie has never lied to me. Why do you ask?” My Dad looked at me like he had seen a ghost. “David, when I was running toward your mother, I saw a female knelt down beside her and, as I got closer, the female vanished into thin air.” I gasped, “What? How can that be, did you catch her scent?” Dad shook his head, “there was no scent.” I looked to Elder Graham, “What does this mean? Is that why you asked Katie who killed my Mom?” Elder Graham nodded. “I didn’t know if she had come into her powers yet. That is also why I pulled the Alpha into his office. Katie apparently does not know who she is yet, and it is not my place to tell her.” I nodded at him. “You’re right. I thought it may have been due to the unwanted visitor who was listening in on our conversation outside.” They both looked at me with expressions of confusion. “What unwanted visitor?” They both asked me. I tilted my head at them, “You didn’t pick up their scent?” They both shook their heads. “There was someone lurking in the tree line listening in. I don’t know if he heard anything, but I figured that might have been why.” “We didn’t sense anyone son.” “I have a feeling they may have something to do with it. I don’t know who it is. They aren’t a part of our pack though. I do however know that they followed Katie and I for a bit today.” “Ok son. You watch over her. I want her safe in case they try anything.” I nodded my head. “As for the two of you… You will keep this a secret. I do not want her finding out that I told you. I told her to come talk to you about the dream when she feels comfortable. She said she needed some answers first.” They both nodded their heads. How in the name of Selene and I going to explain this to Katie?
