Unknown’s POV
I had been told by my contact in the Stone Lake Pack that once my job was complete, I needed to make myself scarce. What I was not expecting was to see someone come running up to me that wasn’t her mate.
I hid behind a tree allowing my eyes to adjust to the darkness. As I looked around this tree I see a young girl, no more than 18, kneeling beside her Luna. I heard twigs snapping and paws approaching, as I look back at the girl, she’s gone.
“Where the hell did she go?” I muttered to myself.
Mayhem, do you sense her?
No! It’s weird, she was here just a moment ago, and now she’s vanished. I don’t even have her scent.
I look back to see the Alpha bent over his mate as he scoops her up and runs back to his pack. I stayed secluded moving through the woods trying to find the girl that was here, but there was nothing. It was as though she was never there.
It was almost sunrise. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to go anywhere until nightfall, I would have to stay inside this miserable pack’s borders for at least the next 9 hours until the sun would go down. Just my luck.
I made my way as far to the North of the pack lands as I could before stopping to rest. As I was settling in, I heard voices. I turned and saw the Alpha’s son, and with him the same girl from early this morning.
Mayhem, do you smell her scent?
Yes, it smells like lilies.
Did you smell anything like that this morning in the woods?
No! I saw her, but there was no scent.
What the hell does this mean?
I don’t know, but I think our business associate didn’t tell us everything.
Mayhem was right. We weren’t told everything. This girl is going to complicate matters.
I see her and the Alpha’s son going back toward the house. I follow them at a distance as to not be noticed. I need to find out who this girl is, what she is…
I see a Jeep pulling out of the garage, both are in it, they drive down the road and out of the gate. I make the decision to wait until they come back. I hope I can get more information on who she is.
After about thirty minutes I see a black SUV pull up in front of the pack house. Six men step out, the Elders Council of course, old fogies. All they do is pass judgement on wolves without getting the whole story.
I see the Alpha walking out. I can tell he’s weakened by the loss of his Luna. That however is just the beginning of what my associate wants to do. This guy is sick, and to make it worse, he is patient. Not my forte but I do as I’m told.
I can see the Alpha talking to the Elders Council, but it’s not loud enough for me to hear what they are saying. As I am moving closer, I see the Jeep with the Alpha’s son and that girl coming up the drive.
The boy stops the Jeep. As he and the girl are stepping out the Alpha addresses them.
“David, Katie!” They bowed their heads. “This is the Elders Council.” They looked surprised.
What did you expect, dumb pups. Mayhem growls.
Hush mutt, I’m trying to listen.
“Elder Sebastian Graham, head of the council. It’s nice to meet you both.” Old farts.
This is boring, do we have to listen to this crap?
Yes Mayhem, we are working. Now, SHUT UP!!
I growled pushing him back. I will never get any work done without him on his leash. I’ve already missed half this conversation.
The old fart starts speaking again. “Miss Katie, who killed the Luna?”
Oh s**t!!!
I can’t breathe.
I look at the girl, who looks like she has just seen a ghost.
“How should I know? I only found out this morning from one of the kitchen omegas that it had happened,” she said.
WHAT????
She was there!!!
She knew it happened!!!!
“Is there a reason why you think I know who killed the Luna?” She asked.
The Alpha and the elder look at one another. “Maybe you and I should discuss this matter in private, Alpha Michael.”
NO!!! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON!!!!
The Alpha and the elder turned to walk into the pack house. While the Alpha’s son and Katie, as I learned her name to be, stood there.
As the Alpha and elder made their way into the packhouse, I see Katie’s expression change from shock to anger.
Apparently, someone doesn’t like being ignored.
I nod my head.
“Why didn’t you want me to say anything? He basically just called me out, accusing me of killing Aunt Jackie.”
What? Aunt? The Luna didn’t have any siblings, and as far as I know the Alpha doesn’t either.
That left room for one thing…..FUCK!!!! She’s ranked.
“Can we just go sit in my room? Mom and Dad will be back soon, and I need to collect my thoughts,” she said.
So, her parents aren’t here. That’s great! Maybe I can find out who she is now, since my mutt of a wolf wouldn’t shut up earlier.
The two walked into the pack house as I find a spot within the trees to sit and wait to find out who this girl is.
------------
Twenty minutes after Katie and the Alpha’s son went inside, I see a car pulling in. Out steps a man and woman. The woman could be Katie’s twin, but I see she is older. This is her mother!!
“Beta!” Someone calls out as he is running up.
The man who has just exited the car turns around.
FUCK!!!
FUCKETY f**k!!
“Mario, how are things?” Mario stops in his tracks.
“Beta, did Miss Katie not inform you of what has happened?”
The Beta nods. “She has, I was asking how you are handling it?”
Mario nods. “As well as can be expected I guess.”
“Do you know where my daughter is?”
“I saw her and David heading toward your room.”
The Beta nods. “Thank you, Mario.”
Well, f**k me! This complicates things. I know she was in the woods, but she acts as if she wasn’t. She also doesn’t seem to know that I was there. This could work in my favor. I need to talk to my contact. There may be something he and his mate want to do about her.
