Chapter 4- The Investigation Begins

1420 Words
Katie’s POV “Miss Katie, who killed the Luna?” Elder Graham asked me. What? Why would he ask me, as if I should know something? I could feel everyone’s eyes on me. I started to feel dizzy. “How should I know? I only found out this morning from one of the kitchen Omegas that it had happened,” I answered completely shocked. My mind was running wild, wanting to know why this elder thinks that I know anything. I mean yeah, I had a dream, but he couldn’t possibly know that, could he? I looked to Elder Graham. “Is there a reason as to why you think I know who killed the Luna?” Elder Graham looked to the Alpha. “Maybe you and I should discuss this matter in private, Alpha Michael.” Alpha Michael looked at me with a questioning glance then back to the Elder and just nodded his head as he turned to lead the way back into the pack house. Why am I just standing here dumbfounded? First, he accuses me of knowing who killed the Luna, and then he doesn’t even have the decency of answering my question of why he thought I knew! Who in the moon goddess f*****g hell does he think he is?! I looked at David, who also had a confused look on his face, as his eyes followed the Elder and his father’s movements into the house. His eyes shot to mine and gently shook his head, trying to get me to let it go for now. When all the remaining Elders dispersed, I looked at David. “Why didn’t you want me to say anything? He basically just called me out, accusing me of killing Aunt Jackie?” I am shaking with rage! I feel like my head is on fire and I am about to explode. David noticed my anger and grabbed my shoulders, pulling me into his chest. “Katie, nobody thinks you killed her,” he whispered into my ear. “Elder Graham knows something. What he knows is beyond me, but we will figure it out, I promise.” I am standing here holding onto David for dear life. I can’t stop the sobs from coming out. I don’t know who killed her, even in my dream I couldn’t see who it was. “David.” “Yeah…” “Can we go sit in my room? Mom and Dad will be back soon, and I need to collect my thoughts.” “Yeah, I can take you up there. Do you want me to stay with you?” “Yes please. I don’t want to be alone right now.” David just nodded his head, pulling me with him as he started walking to the third floor of the pack house. I don’t understand why Elder Graham thinks that I know who killed the Luna, but I’m not going to stop trying to figure it out!   Alpha Michael’s POV I was stunned! Elder Graham just asked Katie who killed my mate. Katie is the sweetest child in the world. If she knew who it was, she would have told me. “Maybe you and I should discuss this matter in private, Alpha Michael.” Elder Graham stated. I stood there for a second looking at Katie with her mouth hanging open before looking back to Elder Graham and nodding. I motioned for him to follow me. I know Katie, there was something she wanted to say. She looked absolutely terrified when Elder Graham first asked her, but as we left, she looked pissed. Probably because he blew her off. My wolf, Blaze, was pacing. He didn’t like the fact that this Elder just disrespected our Beta’s daughter. Hell, goddess only knows that sweet child will probably be my daughter in law in a couple of months. Blaze was restless. We should just rip his head off. He won’t be able to hurt Katie again if we do. He’s an Elder Blaze. We can’t do that. Besides, I want to know why he thinks she knows. Fine, we’ll wait until we get our answers, but then we rip his head off. I pushed Blaze to the back of my mind. He has always had a soft spot for Katie. That girl is a true gem. And if she does end up being David’s mate, he will be one lucky wolf. As we made it down the hallway and into my office, I stepped behind my desk and sat down. I ushered Elder Graham to take a seat in the chair across from me. As he sat down, I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. I reached for the switch on the underside of my desk to lock the door and soundproof my office, away from anyone who may try to listen in on this conversation. Elder Graham nodded knowingly and in approval of my actions. We sat in silence for a few moments before the question I have been asking myself for the last several minutes finally decided to fall out of my mouth. “Elder Graham, why do you believe Katie knows who killed my mate?” He sat there quietly for a moment, looking at me trying to see if I was serious or joking. He then took a deep breath as he ran his hand over his face and made eye contact with me. “Because, whether she realizes it or not, she does,” he stated. I looked at him confused. “How? And how would you know?” “Do you not know what her eye color means?” I c****d my head while trying to read him. “What does her eye color have to do with her knowing anything?” I asked getting irritated. He just sighed and shook his head. “She is a witch. Her eye color signifies that she is a part of the royal family, and one gift that is exclusive to those of royal blood is the gift of foresight.” That was it, my mouth dropped open. Not just open, but it landed on the floor. Is this why Margaret and James needed to go see her family? I knew Margie wasn’t from this pack originally, but not even I knew she was a witch. Margie didn’t have the fuchsia eyes like Katie did. We just thought It was something passed down the line somewhere. Little did I know. “Alpha Michael,” the Elder said getting my attention. “Hmm…” “Where are your Betas? Maybe they could clear this up for you a little better.” “They left yesterday evening to go visit her family. Some sort of family business that needed to be attended to. I don’t even know if they are aware of what has taken place.” Elder Graham just nodded and started speaking again. “The fact that young Miss Katie was completely lost with what I said is why I pulled you into your office.” I looked at him confused yet again. An emotion that I was not used to being an Alpha. “It is clear that she does not know she is a witch. And whether she has started having visions or not, that is information that would be best suited to come from her family.” I nodded my head, now understanding why he wanted to speak in private. “I understand Elder Graham, thank you for clearing that up.” He nodded his head. “Now.” He stated. “On to a more difficult topic of discussion. Has your Luna had any issues with anyone that you are aware of?” I thought for a second. “No, none that she said anything about.” “Ok, have you had any issues serious enough that someone would want to kill your Luna to weaken you to the point of being able to kill you?” That is a good question. I decided to take a minute to think about that. I thought back over the last few years of any situations that may have come about bringing me to this point. As an Alpha, you are bound to make enemies. Not everyone is going to agree with every decision you make. I shook my head, ultimately, I had no idea. “Ok…” he said. “It looks like this investigation will have to be started the hard way, at least for now.”
