Chapter Forty Starlyn’s eyes fluttered open. She lay alone in her room for several minutes in silence. Warmth spread through her, but so did trembles. She was nervous. Human customs were strange to her. Kheshlars had something more of a life bond than a marriage, but there were some similarities. A smile came across her face. She was excited to be bonded with Noraes for the rest of their lives. A frown came across her face as she wondered how long that would be. Kheshlars were immortal. Humans were not. She shook her head. Starlyn loved Noraes, and she would treasure their time together, however limited it would be. She would not let it dampen her mood. Her door opened. Taasheka poked her head inside. She met Starlyn’s eyes, then smiled. “Good morning, milady.” “Good morning, Taasheka.”
