Chapter 8

We spent the evening dancing and talking to others at the ball, I learned that King was a fair but just man who loved everyone, he wanted all of his people Vampire and Human alike to prosper, he wanted them to live in freedom with a life of happiness. But it was hard for him to hive everyone that with a dangerous faction to the North. This faction only wanted death and ruins; he has spent the last 1,000 years fighting them with no end in sight. Colter and Cameron vowed to stand with their King in this fight, they never faltered with their loyalty.

“I do not have to go if you want me to stay.” He said to me on the car ride home.

“I can not ask you to stay out of selfishness Colter. This is your duty and I know if did stay it would slowly destroy the man you are.” I replied keeping my gaze fixed on the world flying past us.

“Will you wait for me?” He asked with hesitation.

“I will.” I said.

We spent the rest of the ride home in silence, I kept my eyes fixed on the greenery outside, even though I can I feel his eyes fixed on me, never moving. The tension in the car was so thick you could cut it with a bread knife. Once we pulled up in front of the house I got out and went inside not waiting for him, I knew he would keep up with my every step. I climbed the staircase, walking down the hall and into our room so I could undress, shower, and go to bed for the evening.

“Would you like me to help you unzip?” I heard him ask.

“Please.” I responded.

I stood still as he unzipped my gown, letting it fall to the floor I stepped out and started walking to the washroom when I heard him growl before he had me pinned agaisnt the wall. I kept my eyes on his chest because I knew If I looked into his eyes, I would lose all control.

“Why won’t you look at me?” He asked.

“I cannot.” I whispered.

“Why?” He demanded.

“If I do… I will not be able to contain my sadness.” I confessed.

He released me and took a step back, taking advantage of the space I went into the washroom. Brushing my hair and removing the make-up, I undressed and stepped into the shower turning on the hot water only. As I stood there under the embrace of hot water, I allowed myself to cry. I allowed myself to feel the pain. Even though I have only known him for a small period I loved him with everything I had and if he were lost, I would be lost as well. Thinking of a life alone without Colter was worse than a life with a cruel man. As I stood there crying, I felt his hands gliding across my skin, wrapping around me, and pulling me back into his embrace. I felt his cold breath on my warm skin raising goosebumps as he laid his cheek to my shoulder.

“Mon Amour… What is it?” He whispered.

“I can not lose you, not when I…” I stopped mid-sentence.

“When you what?” He asked.

Turning in his arms so I was able to finally look upon his face, placing my hands on either side of the face I have grown to love, the one I have dreamt of, the one I long to see when I wake in the morning.

“I love you.” I said staring into his perfect crimson red eyes.

He did not blink, nor did he move, he just stared at me with a surprised expression.

“Tu seras toujours à mes côtés, tu es l'amour de ma vie. Je t'aime.” He finally said as he grabbed my face.

“I do not understand.” I confessed.

“You will always be by my side. You are the love of my life. I love you.” He said.

I felt the tears fall from my eyes as I pressed my lips to his kissing him with all the love I bore, all the sadness I felt for his departure, all the loyalty I held. I will never leave this man; he is my forever and I his.

We stood in the shower holding each other for some time before he took my fingers into his hand placing a kiss to the tips and smiling.

“You mo amour are turning into a raisin” he laughed.

“I suppose we should get out than.” I agreed.

He reached behind me turning the water off before stepping from the shower, he gathered a few towels handing me one as he wrapped the other around his waist.

“Are you hungry?” He asked me.

“Yes.” I smiled.

“You stay here, and I will go gather some food for us.” He said as he leaned in to place a kiss to me lips.

I watched him as he walked out of the washroom, he was a stunning perfect man with a body of a god. Shaking my head I walked over and dropped my towel, drying my hair and washing my face I went into the closet gathering a comfortable sleepwear set. I got dressed, hung my towel up and went into the bedroom to find Colter there setting up the tv from the living room.

“What are you doing?” I asked him as I made my way to the tray of goodies he brought.

“I thought you would like to watch a movie, but I wanted to cuddle you in bed so I brought the tv here.” He said looking at me with a perfect smile.

“So thoughtful of you my love.” I said popping a grape into my mouth.

“I will never get use to that.” He said with a solemn tone.

“Use to what?” I asked.

“You loving me.” He said as he finished his task.

“You will, and then you will become annoyed with me.” I giggled.

“Never.” He replied staring at me with a sad expression.

“I was joking…” I said walking towards him. “It was only a joke my love.”

He leaned down kissing me as he picked me up, carrying me to the bed and setting me down. He went to the other side and joined me. I looked over at him and then to my hands.

“What is it mon amour?” he asked.

“What if you leave and find someone better than me?” I asked,

“There is no one better than you.” He said gripping my chin making me look at him. “There will never be anyone as good and perfect as you. Let us enjoy our not and not talk of this.”

“Okay.” I agreed cuddling up next to him.

“Now, what are we going to watch?” He asked me.

“I am not sure… How about something funny?” I said talking a piece of dried meat.

“Perfect.” He said with a smile.

He turned on a movie that had a talking bear and a guy who was best friends with him. It was quite funny I have to admit even though I did not understand some of the jokes they made. After our move was over I saw Colter was sound asleep, I gathered the tray that held out snacks cleaning them up before crawling into be next to him. Drifting off into a peaceful sleep I dreamt of the man I have come to love.
