NATHAN STOOD AT THE corner of the Roman fort closest to the trees, waiting for the news he knew was going to come soon - the search had to be abandoned; the chopper had found no sign of anyone in the woods, and it simply wasn’t practical for Vernon White and his team to continue - and thinking about the last time he had been there, when he and his family celebrated his son’s seventh birthday with a picnic.
