BURKE BROKE ALL RECORDS, not to mention a significant number of traffic laws, on his way to the hospital. The result of which was that he made it there in barely ten minutes. He parked in the first vacant spot he found, and then chased after his partner as Nathan raced across the car park to the accident and emergency department’s entrance, heedless of the few vehicles that were moving around and how close he came to being knocked down.
Nathan was already at the counter by the time Burke caught up to him, loudly and angrily demanding to see his family, while the other occupants of the waiting room looked on in astonishment. The nurse was trying to handle the situation as calmly and as properly as her training had taught her to, without success; Nathan was having none of it.
