The unknown, the unsaid

Irina stood by the sidewalk as she waited for Luke. He was to be her ride to the party at Leah's tonight which Irina had painstakingly agreed to go to.

She shivered slightly in the pale lavender dress that Leah had picked for her when they had gone out shopping in the afternoon. It was thin and made of satin and clung to her slender frame. She carried a black stole to provide herself with some warmth from the cool autumn breeze.

Leah had instructed Luke to pick Irina on his way to the party since they were neighbours even though Irina had insisted that she could have had her father drop her off.

Although neughbours, Irina had never really spoken to Luke until this year when he befriended Raoul and became a part of their group. Leah had told Irina that Luke was interested in her but Irina couldnt really see herself going out with him.

At 18, Luke stood at 6.4 feet and was a jock. He was in his senior year, big and burly, and was a little too cocky for Irina's taste. Irina had often times seen him bullying smaller guys and when he spoke about women, it wasnt very tasteful.

So Irina had put her foot down and forbidden Leah from setting them up. As she waited for them she pondered over her day. She couldn't remember what had happened during the class that had caused her to be sent to the principal's office. She had been paying attention in class and then slowly her mind had wandered off to different things. She remembered thinking about the party the following night, about how she had to catch a ride with Luke which would probably be awkward for her. She had thought about how there would most likely be some underage drinking and then her mind had drifted off to Logan.

Next thing she knew her Leah was shaking her to wake her up. Her head was slumped on the desk and was throbbing from the pain of her hitting it there. She recalled hearing Logans voice but once again it was incoherent and fuzzy.

Irina looked to the side as she heard the door to Luke's house open and watched as Luke and his younger brother stepped out.

Irina had seen his brother before but never formally met him. He was quite different from Luke, he had black hair instead of Auburn like Luke's, brown eyes, wasnt any taller than 5.8 feet and didnt look athletic whatsoever.

They walked over to her and Luke wrapped her in a big burly hug.

"What's up Irina, how you doing?"

"Hi, Luke. I'm well. How are you?", Irina said.

"I'm good, I'm good. Meet my brother Gabriel. Hes in the same grade as you but I guess you guys havent met yet" Luke introduced the two.

Irina shook hands with Gabriel who gave her a big grin. He seemed goofy if anything, and Irina immediately felt comfortable around him.

They made small talk on their car ride to the party and Irina made sure to thank Luke again for saving her from the Lake the previous day. Gabriel was surprised as he did not know what had happened so Irina told him the entire story and she was surprised to find herself so comfortable around him. It felt natural and she couldnt understand why.

Once at the party they headed over to Leah and met up with everyone. From there Gabriel parted ways and headed over to his group of friends.

As expected there was alcohol at the party and Leah was adamant they do shots. The music was blaring and everyone was having a fun time.

Irina chose to have a vodka soda and steered clear of the dark rum which brought back too many memories that she had tried so hard to forget over the past 2 years.

At one point, buzzed and happy, Irina walked upstairs to the bathroom for a break. She walked over to the mirror and looked at herself. Her vision Blurred in and out and she focused to keep it together. She knew how talkative drinking alcohol made her and she didnt want to say or do anything tonight that she would regret the next day.

Although, the last time she had been drunk she hadn't regretted a single thing about the night. It was in fact the most wonderful night of her life. Two years ago, with Logan....

Irina felt a jolt of pain in her skull and she gripped the washbasin to maintain her balance as the world around her blacked out.
