Lukas's POV
“What the f**k do you mean?!”
Matthew, the young Doctor in charge of my surrogacy situation, looked down, scared to face me. “Don't you dare keep mute when I ask you a simple question, Matthew. What did you just say?”
“I—” His weak human self stuttered.
“I'm sorry, Alpha Lukas. It was a mistake.”
What the f**k was he saying?
What exactly was a mistake?
How could he make such a terrible mistake?
“Can you stop being miserable and tell me what exactly the mistake was?”
My legs pushed me to my feet and I paced the plush living room. “Make me understand what you mean. What exactly was a mistake? Is it inserting my sperm into another woman's system? And of all the women in the world to put it in, an Omega wolf?”
The thought of a weak woman carrying my child annoyed me more than anything.
I hated weakness, more than I hated death.
“Speak!”
“My Lord—” Again, Matthew's weak tone reverberated. “I don't know what happened. I can't explain how it happened. I'm so sorry.”
“You're sorry?” I thundered.
“What exactly are you sorry for, Matthew? Is it for being careless with my seeds or putting them in an Omega Wolf? Need I remind you of the agreement we both had? No, the agreement I had with that stupid hospital! I should have known you wouldn't help my situation. Why did I even trust you?”
“The hospital is not responsible for this—”
“Shut up and repeat what you have said!” I cut him. I took a walk back to the couch, sat, and faced him. “I need to hear you repeat yourself. Tell me again how incompetent you are, Doctor Matthew.”
The room went silent.
“Surely, I didn't speak to a deaf man—”
Instead of sitting, the young man got up.
He bowed and resumed. “The woman was at the hospital about a month ago, weeks after you handed the semen to us. I take the blame, Alpha Lukas. It's all my fault and this has nothing to do with the hospital. I don't know how it happened.”
Of course, he didn't know.
How could he know? A deep sigh escaped my mouth and I went into my thoughts.
The agreement I had with him was an Alpha Female carrying my child, not any other rank of wolf, talk more about an Omega wolf.
Whatever he has done should be the least of my concerns, or should it? Why should I care?
“Whatever mistakes you have made is on you. I'm certain that child can be aborted, or can't it? I will never have a thing to do with a weak woman and I told you about this from the onset, didn't I?”
“It'll be a huge risk, Alpha Lukas.”
“Why should it bother me?” I chuckled. “I don't care about the child, or even the woman. Do you think I give a f**k about weak people?”
“Alpha Lukas—”
“I'm sure I am ready to provide another semen, you can do whatever you please with it. But be sure to not bring news of a weak woman to me again.”
“It's not possible, Alpha Lukas.”
“Good—” A smile I didn't mean appeared.
“That's not what I mean—” Matthew pushed. “I'm saying the child cannot be aborted.”
“Why not?”
The man got on his feet. He looked me right in the eye, something he did whenever serious information was about to be passed.
“I understand your anger in this case, My Lord. And I'm willing to do anything to make this up to you. But at the same time, you must understand that the woman in question is a month gone—humans can abort children if they wish to, but not—”
“She is a weak wolf. What's the difference?”
“My Lord, she is still a werewolf.”
“And why should I care about that?”
Anger, once again, welled up inside of me. “Tell me the difference between an Omega wolf and a human. Do you know what you have done? Don't make me take you to court, Doctor Matthew.”
“This baby, your child is in good condition.”
I relaxed a little.
Although I was annoyed, another part of me wished to have this conversation. And so I asked. “What do you mean good condition?”
“A series of tests was run on her the last time she visited the hospital when she was confirmed pregnant,” He explained. “And the child is in good condition, so is the woman. Very healthy and I wouldn't be here if there were no chances of having a healthy baby with the mother in the first place.”
“What are you trying to say?”
“I am proposing we give this a chance. Usually, Alpha Females are hard to come by. A lot of women saw the offer at the hospital gate, online on the website and yet, they didn't bother coming in because they aren't Alpha Females. And the ones who did wished to make a fool of themselves by scamming us—because of the juicy offer.”
Matthew was beginning to make some sense.
I thought about it.
At this point, did I have a choice?
There was a woman and she was pregnant.
The more I wasted time, the closer I was to losing my crown as the Alpha of The Pack Varondale. That wasn't supposed to happen, especially when there wasn't an heir to take over from me.
I looked around, then at Matthew.
He sat there, waiting for me to say something.
I didn't know what to say. In a long time since my reign, I hadn't been as angry and confused as I was.
I glanced at Matthew.
I needed to make a child, or else I would lose my crown. The crown couldn't be lost, not with me. My Fathers from past generations did not lose it, so why would I? I needed to do something, and soon.
It was against the rules of the pack to abort a baby. I couldn't do much to an innocent creature.
But why an Omega wolf?
Did the moon goddess have to punish me this way? Maybe this was the only way—the only way I could have a child—and through an Omega wolf. A deep sigh found its way out of my mouth, my back relaxed on the couch and I looked up at Matthew.
He sat there, his breath hanging.
Obviously, he waited for me to say something.
“Alpha Lukas. I am sorry about this.”
“Of course! You had just one Job.”
“I take the blame, and whatever consequences that will come with it. I am sorry, My Lord.”
There was no time.
If I didn't accept this, then it would be on me.
Instantly, I was on my feet.
Without a word to Matthew who still waited, I led my way towards the stairs.
“Alpha Lukas. Please say something.” His voice came from behind. “I need your word to make the next step, I can't do this without you.”
“Oh,” I stopped walking. “I didn't know that.”
“What do I do next?” He begged. “My profession is on the line if something is not done about this.”
I could not be angry for long.
Maybe I could, but not in such matters.
“What about the woman?”
Now he got on his feet, walked closer, and bowed. “She's traumatized from everything. I don't know what to do with her either.”
“Bring her with you to the pack.” I turned and continued to walk. “As soon as possible.”
