Just as Lexi was about to dash out, she saw her uncle walk into the office. He smiled at her, but his expression looked a bit preoccupied.
"Hey", he said, giving Lexi a quick hug. "Sorry I stepped out for a bit. I had to take care of something."
Lexi smiled, feeling relieved that her uncle was back. "It's okay, Uncle," she said.
As Lexi and her uncle finished up with the administrative tasks, he smiled and patted her on the back. "Alright, Lexi. You're all set. You'll start classes tomorrow, so let's head back home for now."
Lexi nodded, feeling a mix of relief and excitement. As they walked out of the administrative building, she noticed two guys approaching them. They were both tall and lean, with athletic builds that suggested they were involved in sports.
One of the guys had messy blond hair and bright blue eyes that sparkled with curiosity. He was wearing a friendly smile and a Ravenswood Academy jacket.
The other guy had dark hair that was styled perfectly, and piercing brown eyes that seemed to bore into Lexi's soul. He was wearing a sleek black jacket with the Ravenswood Academy logo emblazoned on it.
Both guys looked confident and self-assured, and Lexi couldn't help but feel a little intimidated. Who were these guys?.
As Lexi watched the two guys approach, she couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity. But it was the guy with dark hair who really caught her attention. There was something about him that drew her in, although she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.
She tried to get a better look at him, but he seemed to be avoiding eye contact. His eyes were cast downward, and his expression was neutral. Lexi found herself wondering what he would look like if he smiled.
The two guys walked past Lexi and her uncle, heading towards the cafeteria. Lexi watched them go, feeling a sense of fascination that she couldn't explain.
"Let's go," her uncle said, breaking the spell.
Lexi nodded, tearing her eyes away from the guy with dark hair. She followed her uncle back to the car, wondering if she would see the mysterious guy again tomorrow.
As they got into the car,Lexi turned to her uncle. "Where did you go earlier, Uncle Ryan?" she asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
Her uncle hesitated for a moment before responding. "I had to meet with one of the school's benefactors," he said. "It was a last-minute meeting."
Lexi nodded, feeling a bit satisfied with the answer. But she couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to it than what her uncle was telling her.
*************
Sophia was bubbling with excitement as she walked into the cake shop where Lexi was seated, alone ."Oh my gosh, Lexi! Can you believe it's finally the first day of term?"
Lexi grinned, wiping her hands on her apron. "I know, right? I'm so excited to hear all about it. How was your day?".
Sophia's face lit up. "It was amazing! Max surprised me at my locker with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a cute little teddy bear. He said he wanted to make my first day of term special."
Lexi's eyes widened in delight. "Aww, that's so sweet! Max is definitely a keeper."
Sophia giggled, looking happy and content. "I know, right? He's always doing little things like that to make me happy."
Lexi smiled, feeling happy for her friend. "You two are just meant to be".
"What's up with you?".
"Guess what? My uncle and I went to Ravenswood Academy, and I'm resuming tomorrow."
Sophia's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? That's amazing! I'm so happy for you."
Lexi beamed with pride. "Thanks, Sophia! I'm super excited."
Sophia leaned in, a curious expression on her face. "So, Lexi, can I ask you something?"
Lexi nodded, wondering what Sofia was thinking. "Of course, what's up?"
Sophia's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "I was just wondering, why did your uncle make you come work part-time here? You're clearly smart and capable... there must be more to the story. I mean, I love having you around, but it seems weird that he wouldn't just support you financially or something."
Lexi's eyes dropped, and she fidgeted with her hands. "Honestly, Sophia... I've been wondering the same thing. It's like, I know my uncle loves me and wants the best for me, but sometimes I feel like he's trying to teach me a lesson or something. Like, he's always saying that I need to learn the value of hard work and responsibility, but it's hard not to feel like he's just being really harsh sometimes."
Sophia expression softened, and she reached out to put a hand on Lexi's arm. "I'm sure it's not that, Lexi. Your uncle probably just wants what's best for you, even if it doesn't always feel like it. And hey, at least you get to hang out with me at work, right?"
Lexi was about to reply when Sophia's mom walked into the shop, a warm smile on her face. "Hey, girls! I just heard the news about Sophia's admission into the Academy".
Sophia beamed with pride. "Mom, Lexi was just telling me about it."
Her mom turned to Lexi. "And how are you doing, dear? I'm so happy for you, being part of the great Ravenswood Academy ".
Lexi smiled, feeling grateful. "Thanks, ma'am. That means a lot coming from you."
Sophia's mom put a hand on Lexi's shoulder. "Remember, Lexi, to always be a good girl and work hard. You have a bright future ahead of you."
Sophia and Lexi exchanged a warm smile.
Sophia's mom continued, "To celebrate Lexi's admission, why don't we take a cupcake? On the house, of course!".
Lexi smiled warmly, but Sophia noticed a hint of concern in her eyes.
Sophia asked, "Hey, Lexi, is everything okay? You seem a little... distracted."
Lexi's expression turned thoughtful. "I was just thinking... I hope I'll like it at the Academy. I hope I'll be able to keep up."
Sophia's eyes widened in surprise. "Lexi, you're going to do great! You're so smart to o".
Lexi's smile faltered for a moment. "Thanks, Sophia... but I don't know. I just feel like I'm not ready for something like that. I'm not going to leave this job, though. I love working here."
Sophia nodded understandingly. "I get it. But Lexi, you have to remember that you're not alone. We're all here to support you, and I know you'll make amazing friends at Ravenswood Academy."
Lexi's eyes sparkled with gratitude. "Thanks, Sophia. Just talking to you makes me feel better."
Sophia grinned. "Anytime, Lexi! That's what friends are for".
