the governor was pronounced died when they got to the hospital. this sudden news shocked the entire city and his family couldn't hold back their tears.
the governor's wife was not a woman to be joked with, though she was grieving she was dead serious about finding out who killed her husband. she excused herself and went to the reception area to look for their attorney.
Marcus was sitting at the reception legs crossed looking deep in thought. she has always wondered what stories laid beneath those cold eyes. "she was a big fan of his" she has read a lot about him and watched a good number of his case, she was the one who instigated that her husband hired him when she found out he was in town.
"she knew her husband had dealings with the wrong people" but taking him away from her like this was so wrong. she would never stand for this, she won't accept this and she doesn't care if she dies trying but justice was be served.
she took a sit next to Marcus and didn't say anything for a good number of minutes, just letting the silence soak in. Marcus wanted to say something to console her, anything to ease her pain but he decided against it, they was nothing he could say that would take away that pain. he has experienced it himself, watching your loved one die right before your eyes. its not the most pleasant feeling and its not like he is trying to be cold but they was nothing he could say. his train of thought was finally broken when she said her first words.
" I know my husband isn't the best person in the world, i know he has his dirty dealings, i know he wasn't always fair in his judgement, i know he stole from the state but his the best father out they." she couldn't hold back her sobs or pretend to be strong anymore tears were running down her cheeks. one would think she won't be able to cry anymore after all the tears she shed earlier but this woman still had a lot on reserve with the way it kept pouring.
"he was a wonderful husband, did you know that has long as he was in the country he would always have dinner with us? he would sometimes drive the kids to school even though his the governor and has a very busy schedule, whenever he has free time he personally cooks for us, she laughed at the memory in between tears.
" though he did a few things that wasn't right in the eyes of the law, i still believe he was the beat governor this city has ever had. am not saying this because he is my husband am saying this because its the truth".
Marcus didn't say anything, he just watched her as she poured out everything to her heart content. his cold eyes watched every single emotion she displayed, he knew she was acting the way a wife would act. this was also part of his plan, part of his findings told him she was obsessed with his work and has been a fan. this is one of the reasons he hasn't left the hospital yet. he knew she would come and ask for him to help and it would be his pleasure
he wasn't even listening to what she was saying rather he was hatching his own plan, how he was going to bring down the big one but first he needs to cut their wings and he has already picked his first target. now the game has truly begun. the death of the governor was just the first big move.
finally after the governor's wife Margret was done talking she wiped her eyes and apologized for breaking down. she told him she was a fan of his and that she was part of the reason her husband hired him. Marcus being Marcus wasn't here for stories he needed her approve which he was already sure he had judging by the way this discussion was going.
Marcus had to cut her short she was tired of this roller coaster sorrow ride. " so tell me what do you want me to do Margret?" she looked at him with her swollen eyes and smiled she knew if anyone could bring justice to her husband it would be his man right here. he has never lost a case, doesn't have relatives, doesn't have a woman in his life. he is cold, doesn't show his emotions and swift in taking action off cause this is the right man for the job.
" I want justice for him Marcus " she finally said. even if he is the most terrible person in the world he is my husband and i won't rest until i get justice. can you do that? you have never lost a case and i believe in you. please Marcus can you give justice to my husband. tears started spilling from her eyes again. but Marcus didn't care he has gotten what he wanted now its time to set a free things in motion. this was like a game of chess to him and he is going to f*****g win it.
you want justice so i will give you justice Margaret not just for your sake but also because this is a very interesting case. first of all why did the doctor say is the cause of death?? "the doctor said its a natural death, that he had an heart attack due to over excitement". but we both know that's a lie attorney. my husband was killed. her blood was beginning to boil she was angry she had a lot of money and power at her deposer but she couldn't save her husband and this conning doctor was painting it as a natural death. but the test results couldn't be lying it was done several times. but she still didn't believe it.
Marcus called her name to get her attention. " listen am only going to ask you this once before i move forward, do you really believe your husband was murdered?? ". and are you willing to do whatever i tell you?? cause i won't have you bailing on me when you begin to feel the heat
Marcus you are forgetting that it's my husband we are talking about Margret said firmly finally finding her voice. i would do whatever.
okay, first thing first here Marcus handed her a card from his pocket. take the governor and go to this hospital ask for doctor Ben he knows what to do but just for heads up he would be doing an autopsy on your husband. we have to find out the real cause behind his death. nobody must know about this okay.
secondly we are changing all your security that started working with you within the last six years and thirdly if anyone asked the governor died a natural death do you understand? Margret nodded but a particular question bugged her. why would Marcus asked her to tell everyone the governor died a natural death when they were trying to prove he theory wrong?
as if reading her mind Marcus told her it's for her own safety so the enemy can relax and think they have won this round.
as he was leaving the hospital he called his men and ask them to keep watch over the governor's family it was time to go back to the drawing board.
