Chapter 6

*** I am so sorry! My 7-year-old daughter got very sick and then a brain tumor was found in her brain stem so I have majorly been lacking work on this at all. I will try to update frequently, but with doctor appointments I am not sure how it will work out. *** Alayna woke up in the same room as before, this time with a worse headache. She sat up slowly because she didn't want to pass out again. As she looked around, she saw Damon on the couch looking at his phone. Once he heard her moving, he looked up and asked her " Are you OK? Amiee's mind linked to me telling me something was wrong. She said she was drawing your blood and you just passed out! " Alayna looked around, a little confused, trying to recall what had happened when it all came flooding back to her. Her headache was instantly pushed to the side and Zyla popped up " She was NOT just drawing blood, you know that right? " " Oh I know, but I don't know what she was doing for sure. " Alayna looked at Damon and said " I don't think I am going to go back to her. I will be fine. " Damon looked puzzled by this and wanted to ask why, but knew she wouldn't tell him because she didn't trust him at all. Alayna got out of bed and realized all she had on was the racer tank top and a pair of spandex shorts. Her long tan legs were exposed to Damon and she suddenly felt something flutter inside her. She shook off the feeling, because she did NOT want to feel that towards him at all or ever, and walked to the closet to find a pair of leggings and another sweatshirt. Damon just starred at her the whole time with his mouth partially open and his eyes wide open. He knew that he needed to look away but he couldn't. He was getting hard just at the sight of her legs and the thought of them being wrapped around his head with her screaming his name out. He shook his head hard when she finally entered the large closet. " So what are you doing? Don't you think you should be resting? I mean you did just pass out. " " Oh shut it Damon! I am not a child, and I need to get out of this house. I need fresh air. " " Well can I go with you then to make sure that you will be fine? " Alayna thought about this for a second and then knew she had to get away from him otherwise she would do something she would regret. " No, I will be fine, I just want to clear my head. " As she started walking towards the door she felt Damon grab her arm. He didn't grab it hard, and it didn't hurt, but she felt what seemed like fire rolling up her arm and into her chest. He dropped his hand almost immediately. Alayna turned around, not realizing he was so close, and went face first into his chest. Her nose started to gush blood all over his white shirt. Alayna then looked up at Damon horrified. " Don't worry about it, it will come out. " Damon tried to lead her to the bathroom to clean her up but Alayna wouldn't move her feet, knowing what may happen if she lets him get too close. " Come on, I am not going to bite you, and you need some help. " " Fine, but just helping me to the bathroom, I don't need you to do anything else. " Alayna spat at him, knowing she sounded like a b***h. As he helped her to the bathroom she started to get light headed again and almost faint. Damon snaked his long, strong arm around her waist to hold her up. Alayna felt that fire again and it made her even more faint and confused. They finally got to the bathroom after what seemed like hours to Alayna and Damon easily lifted her up and sat her on the counter with one hand, all while grabbing a small washcloth from besides the sink. Once she was settled to where she wasn't going to fall off and he was between her knees supporting her weight, he ran the warm water and got the washcloth wet. He put it up to her face and she flinched away from him. He felt a weird wave of anger rush through him. " Why did you flinch? " Alayna couldn't think straight between the fire that was now going up her legs and her headache that had come back with a raging vengeance. Just as she was about to pass out, she felt the fire ignite through her body again, this time starting in her face. Her eyes shot open and she saw Damon softly touching her cheek with the washcloth. " What is going on? " she asked him. Damon replied " You got a bloody nose, almost passed out and then you flinched when I tried to touch you. Now that you seem to be doing a little better you wanna tell me why you flinched? " Alayna looked around the bathroom looking for an escape from the question. " Not really, I don't think it is any of your business. " She said defensively as she shoved his body away from between her legs and hopped off the counter. As she started to walk towards the door she felt that damn fire start up again in her arm. Just then, she was turned around right into Damon's arms. " I don't know why or how, but I have this feeling that I have never had before. And that is to protect you at all costs, even if it means with my own life. I want to fix your problems but I can't do that if you don't tell me what I need to fix. " Alayna could hardly breath because of the intoxicating smell and feeling of being in his arms. She, for the first time in her life, felt safe and she couldn't explain why. She barely knew this man. " There is nothing for you to fix, I am a big girl and can do it myself. " Alayna said in a whisper. Damon just stared at her and his eyes went soft as he started to bend down toward Alayna. She wasn't sure what to do . A million thoughts were going through her mind. She didn't know which thought to settle on, so she just ran straight out the door. Her body was on fire in places she never thought she would feel anything good. She ran down the hallway and then down the stairs. She stopped at the bottom of the steps just now realizing that she had never been on the first floor while she was consciousness. She wildly looked around until she saw the glass doors that led to the back to a patio and she took that as her escape route. Alayna jumped over the hedges and just kept running towards the trees. She could hear heavy breathing behind her, but it didn't sound like it was right behind her. She felt as if her hearing was heightened because of how far away it sounded. After what felt like fifty miles, she finally stopped. She felt a small flame as a massive wolf walked up to her. She gazed in awe, the wolf was a large black wolf with bright green eyes. She felt as if she knew those eyes but couldn't place them and she felt like she was finally safe. The wolf's face was level with hers and looked deep in her eyes. Alayna knew that it was trying to communicate with her, she felt what seemed a barrier trying to break through in her mind, but she wouldn't let it through. All of a sudden, there was a naked Damon where the wolf once stood. Alayna was in shock and just stared at his body. Damon chuckled " You just seem to be going through all sorts of emotions aren't you? " as he bent down and grabbed the shorts that were strapped to his leg. " What do you mean! " Alayna felt anger now because she just knew he was judging her. " Oh nothing, just something I felt. You are fast. I had to shift to keep up with your human form. " “ Human form? What the hell do you think I am?!? “ Alayna knew she was not human but she had never shifted and always kept it hidden from everyone around her, including Devon, the only person she trusted. “ You can trust him, Alayna. Zyla got her attention. “ How do you know? “ Alayna asked her. “ Because I was told you need to trust him, he will help you fit all the pieces together. “ With that Zyla retreated to the back of Alayna’s mind.
