The Unknown Wolf

Chapter 7

Alayna looked out over the meadow while Damon sat beside her. There was a large lake at the base of the mountain at the other end of the meadow. A 100 foot water fall fell off the mountain and into the lake. Damon turned his head to her and asked " So are you going to tell me what all that was about? " Alayna sat staring at the lake, hoping for a different conversation. For some reason she trusted Zyla, even though she hadn't been talking to her long and thought she was crazy. If Zyla says we can trust him, then I will give it a go. Alayna started to tell Damon her whole life story. " And that's how I ended up in front of that truck. " Alayna finished her story. She told him the whole truth and what her goals were for those other young girls in that horrible home. " Don't worry about the home, my people will take care of that. No one should ever be in that situation. " Alayna just stared in awe at him. " Why would a complete stranger even care what is happening there? I have told hundreds of people and they don't care " Alayna finally asked him. She was expecting him to kick her out as soon as he heard her story. " Well Little One, because I have this feeling that you need to be protected. I get a feeling that I want to hold you close and explore every single part of your body. And because I am not sure why, it just feels right " Damon said to her as he was staring at her neck like it was a desert waiting to be devoured. Alayna was blushing. She had never heard anyone talk like that. She was just about to give him a smart ass remark when all of a sudden something jumped on her back, pushing her forward down the slight hill she was sitting on. She huffed at the weight that was taking her down the hill. She could hear Damon growling, he must be in his wolf form again. " Damn that was fast " Alayna thought to herself. " It's time, Alayna, shift! " " How the hell do I shift Zyla?!?! I have never done it before and don't know the first thing about it! " " Let me take control and relax your entire body, it will hurt but not for long " "OK, I'm ready. " Just then Alayna felt what felt like every bone in her body breaking. Even her shoulder, which was still somewhat sore. Just before her vision went black, she saw Damon's wolf rip the head off one of the attackers and he shifted back staring at her. " What in the actual f**k? " Damon breathed out. As Alayna was going down the hill she was shifting and it looked like it took her almost no effort at all right before they were at the bottom of the hill and just out of Damons sight she finished shifting.

Damon POV

He watched as Alayna made it almost to the bottom of the hill and then started running down the hill. First thing he saw when he started over the edge was a large,, as large as his wolf, which was huge because he had royal blood, wolf. But she wasn't just any wolf. She was a blessed wolf! Her fur was white as pure snow with a large green diamond in the middle of her forehead. Her eyes were an almost neon green. When she huffed at her attacker, there was smoke that came out of her nose and when she shook her head, her whole body shook, creating little water drops at the end of each piece of fur. Damon watched as Alayna had her huge paw on his chest and opened her mouth just slightly and blew on the male, causing him to burn until there was nothing left of him. There were no flames that came out of her mouth, it was almost as if she just did it with her mind.

Damon walked very slowly up to her. " Little One, are you ok? " Alayna's wolf jerked her head in Damon's direction. " I am Zyla, her wolf. She cannot hear you right now for her protection. There is people after her and she needs protection. " " I understand that and am willing to do whatever it takes. I know now that she is my mate. Why didn't it register when I first laid eyes on her? " " Because I stopped it. She needed to see you differently than just some man in a*****e that was going to try and dominate her. She would have run faster than you could have said, mate " " What is your name? She never told me she had a wolf but I suspected she wasn't human " " Zyla, but I must shift back now, Alayna needs to come to terms with all this " Just then Zyla started to shift back.

Alayna POV

I could hear everything that was being said between Zyla and Damon. I could not believe my damn ears. How dare they try and tell me that I need protection or a mate or whatever! I am able to take care of myself. Thank you very much! " What the hell Damon! You do not get to say ' I am willing to do whatever it takes ' and act like you care! " " Alayna, calm down. You are getting worked up and that isn't good for your body right now. " Damon knew he screwed up as soon as he said it. " WHAT THE f**k DID YOU SAY?!? I AM A BIG GIRL WITH MY BIG GIRL PANTIES ON AND I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF! " Alayna screamed at him. She wasn't even sure why she was angry at him. Maybe it had something to do with him talking to Zyla about a 'mate' or Zyla saying that she needed protection. All she could do was turn and start running back to the castle. Hell she didn't have anywhere else to go at the moment, so she would take advantage of a comfortable bed, at least for tonight. I didn't run as fast as when I was coming out here and I seemed to know my way back somehow. Damon jogged behind me but didn't say anything to me the whole way. I was kind of hurt by that, but honestly, what did I expect? I acted like a spoiled child for no reason at all, I was just so angry and I wanted to punch something or someone. That was the first time in a long time that I had lost control in front of anyone.

I saw the castle coming into view, so I picked up my pace and reached the doors in record time. I took the stairs 2 at a time, somehow still knowing where to go, and found the room I was staying in. After I sat on the bed, I heard a door on the other side of the hall open and shut very slowly.

I decided I would go to sleep, even though it was still early, and try and sneak out in the morning to avoid everyone in this damn castle that made me feel so safe, wanted, warm and cared for.
