Chapter 5: Dinner

1597 Words
As I turn back the garden and walk back to the house, I head inside the kitchen's back door. Some faces are new, but some are familiar to me. As the helpers make themselves busy, I try to go observe what they are doing. There are grills and fire and steak. It's fascinating. I saw my old cook, her age is almost the same as my grandmothers, my guess is between fifty-five or fifty-nine. She doesn't seem to notice me, maybe due to her eyesight being blurry, or due to being busy, or maybe because she doesn't recognize me. The helpers are looking at me, a bit confused at first, but then smiled. I smile back. Seeing these working, busy people, it makes me happy. I remember mom and dad making a fuss every morning. I shake my head and continue to the Dining Room. I already saw the kids sitting at the large table. Looks like they are already eating. I approach the only vacant chair that I assume was preserved for me, the north-end end chair. They don't mind me at all as I take my seat. There is already a food set in front of me. While having dinner, the kids are just making a mess. They kept throwing carrots and other veggies at each other. Annie is being an angel for eating with proper etiquette, she looks at me and smiled. I gesture her to swap seats with her mom so that she can be close to me as she eats. My aunts and uncles are chatting and so are my cousins Sadly, I thought I'll be having my dinner with my grandparents but I guess they already ate and went to bed. As for me I sit quietly eat my steak with wine, I don’t even know why I’m allowed to drink one! I'm still contemplating what happened to my room... As I eat my steak, I'm trying to guess who planned that. Annie's been keeping me company, she's telling me stories about what happened to her summers, her school, and her everyday life. She sounds nothing like her age. Unconsciously, I'm finished eating... I started to listen a bit more until she finished her macaroni and cheese. Her mom asked her to clean herself and go to bed. Well, I'm alone now, I guess sleeping is the next option for me. “It’s delicious, whoever made that!” they all look up leaving their unfinished and cold food. “Already?” Angelo asked. “Jet lag...” I reply. “Just sit for a minute” Angelo offers with a very sweet and calm voice, I obey quietly. My eyes went to the kids who are slowly vanishing out of the room and all of a sudden and their plates are like… Clean. “How are your mom and dad?” Edward asks. “Umm… they’re fine… I guess, happy is the word…” I reply while playing with the scraps on my plate. “Why?” Edward questions. “They’ll just kiss... Everywhere! They don’t care if there are strangers. Moaning, groaning, orgasm, Every f*****g night!” I reply. I sigh with frustration. But they were a nightmare. Don't they have a company to run? They all look at me, flushed. Out of nowhere all of them started laughing. “How sweet….. I guess you already saw your room?” Anna asks. “Yeah… hate the walk-in closet, and how many times do I have to tell you guys! You don’t have to do those kinds of things.” I scold. Lorenz looked at me in the eye. “But we already did, why can’t you just thank us? And besides, you don't need to shop for clothes that often. You will not have problems with clothes anymore." I ignore him. “Well! I require sleep! I need to go to bed, I am sure that I have no sleeping problems, rest assured!” I stand up, and when I was about to walk out, Lorenz catches my attention. “Luna, all of us will go back on our own home, we’ll leave tomorrow noon” “But summer does not end yet” I reply. “We have to shop for the kids…” He continues lamented. “Oh…. Okay!” I reply as sadness wash over me, the mansion will be quiet as hell! “Abuelos and Abuelas will leave with us too, they wanted to go back to the province and live there!” he continues while eating, joining others. “So I’ll be here….. Alone, all by myself?” “That’s the idea, and before we leave, the son of Cruz? He’ll be here tomorrow, for a meeting,” He moves on. “Why are you telling me that?” I ask with full curiosity. “Sooner or later you’ll be the heir of the two big companies that your parents own, all of your uncles including me, are attending and we decided to include you, as a trainee.” “I’ll try….” “What do you mean?” “I’m sick but I’ll try to live!” I answer his question. He continues to speak but I already left and went to my room. Heir? You see, I'm sick, I don't even know if they found any donors yet. As I open my door, I gasp and in full shock... I never saw this earlier... My room is filled with glow-in-the-dark stars. The wall... It has a replica of my favorite constellation... The Orion. The black walls were now galaxy... Violet, blue, red, and white is glowing with the stars. Is this even possible? The exquisite stars that made up Orion shine the brightest and glows on a color they naturally have. Betelgeuse, Meis, Rigel, Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, and Saiph, they even include Bellatrix and Sirius. I suddenly remember Mom and Dad... I haven't called them! I dialed mom's number immediately. Within 3 rings, she picked up. "Mom?" I breathe. "Darling! Hi! Are you home?" She exclaimed. "Yes, mom, I've been here since this afternoon. Everything's been a lot. My room has changed. It's bigger and... It's crazy." I sound melancholic than what I have in mind. "It's okay, baby, just get used to it. You know that's their way of showing you love, right?" I know She doesn't see me but I know she knows, I nodded. "Where is Dad? Seems like he's not bothering you or anything." I brought it up. "Well, time differences, darling." Oh... Yeah. I forgot we don't live in the same place anymore. "He's at work. It's 4 in the afternoon here, so, he might be out a bit more. You need to call him, honey, he was sad when you left." She says while I hear her keyboards making sounds. "You're clearly busy," I say with a dead tone. "No, I am not!" She insisted. "Mom, I can hear your keyboards clacking." She sighs, "Okay, I may be busy, a bit." "I should hang up now, mom. I know you're busy, I don't want to disturb you." I sound sad again. f**k! "Whatever you say so, honey. Call Dad, now, okay?" She scolds. "Yes. Bye, mom." "Bye, sweetie, good night." I hang up the phone, a bit too worried he might pull me back, that's a habit of hers. I dialed Dad's phone, just like what mom said. It took a couple of rings before he answers. "Cupcake, you landed?" Dad asked. "Hi, Dad, I just landed early this afternoon. Mom said I should call you." "That's good, cupcake. Have you settled down? Have you eaten? Should I make an order for you there? Should I call Jake or Mrs. Cane?" He's very worried as always, it makes me laugh. "Dad, chill, I did settle down, I've unpacked my bags, mom will tell you about the room. And yes, I did eat. A steak. You good now?" I reassured. I hear him laugh at the other line. "Okay, okay. Are you good there though? How're your grandparents? Your pops and ma's?" He started to quiz me about my day. "I am good, Dad. Pops and ma's are still kicking. I'm kinda worried though, about grandmas, they are still thinking about the company... Is everything ok there?" I questioned Dad. He released a heavy and frustrated sigh. "Of course it is, those two are just worried about everything." And just like mom, I know he's busy, and I don't want him to be disturbed by me. "Uh, Dad, I know you're busy and... I don't want you disturbed. So, I need to hang up. And! I'm tired. I need sleep." I voiced. "Fine... Go and rest now, darling. I know that the trip is long and exhausting. We'll continue our talk next time. Ok? He assured. " Yes. Bye, Dad." The room is quiet again. I'm left with the stars and I am thankful for this view. I think this is what I loved about the most in during my stay here, the beautiful replica stars. It still amazes me for the effort they've done for me. Then I thought: At least I still have the chance to reach the stars even though my days are counted. Then slowly, I drowse off.
