In the middle of the night, at a bar close to her bakery, Days have been good with Jason. Permitting him to take her out on three dates were one of the best decision she had ever made. The conversation continued throughout the night, while she smile, watched and listened to him talk.
"So, you're from Nigeria?" Jason asked, Damilola lowered her head, staring at the fingers she played with, she was anxious, scared to make a crazy mistake.
"Yeah, I am," Damilola says, she kept staring at him, and every minute he smiled her heart lit up. June had helped her pick a very nice gown and she loved it. Meanwhile, Jason's phone had been vibrating, even though he hid such from her, she could still feel it, and she hoped she knew.
"Is something wrong?" Jason held her hands softly, causing her to jerk.
"No... I-I... um, I just noticed your phone..." Damilola played with her fingers and looked at the black iPhone placed on the table. "You... It must be important, I think you should take it" She managed to say.
"I talk to them every day, I don't think I would be seeing this beauty after a long time, I wanna make it count" Damilola chuckled, blushing hard, that her cheek felt hot.
"Thank you," She says, Damilola cleared her throat, "by the way, how's work-"
"Hmm, can we not talk about work?" Jason asked, looking away, she didn't even glance at her while he spoke, was he shy too? Damilola thought.
"I was just curious?" Dami asked, she didn't hear anything about the proposal she had offered him.
"Would you, like to attend a birthday party with me? My sibling-" Damilola looked at him, and her heart twitched, his family, he was involving his family now. He says, raising his gaze at her.
"Wow," she cleared her throat, and breathed calmly "who's birthday?" She asked.
"Oh, my brother" he replied, "I wouldn't want to pressure you, but if-" Jason gasped, earning a smile from her.
"I don't mind," she said, and questioned her speech right away."
"Really?" Jason returns the smile, of course, she knew that, it was online, she was a fan, so obviously she knew.
"Yeah, I am not really busy, oh, you haven't-" she paused, as she took quickly to reply, her heart was pounding harder than ever. "I'm sorry, I am just a little nervous" she spat.
Jason laughed, and replied, "It's next week, the 5th, I am guessing you would be free?" He asked, teasingly.
"Yes, I guess" she replied, and he raised a brow at her. Damilola unable to control her smile, laughed blushing.
"That's good" he murmured, glancing away, she couldn't even stare at him, she cleared her throat, smiling.
Jason stared at her, her smile was contagious, and he couldn't help and smile at her, Damilola's eyes wandered around as he stared at her, he could tell she couldn't glance at him, Jason looked away, picking up his drink and sipping from it.
She had nothing to say, and her eyes glanced around, He was different, different from every guy she had been with. They were either around her for her money or s*x, but Jason was different, he made her smile uncontrollably and he made her darkest night bright.
"So, Dami" he called with a smile, and she looked at him, "Tell me, what does a pretty lady as you do for fun?" He asked, and this question made her smile. And she found herself rolling her eyes at him, their eyes locked for a moment and she looked away.
"Travel?" She darts at him, smiling. She knew telling him that wasn't really necessary but she didn't lie either, she could travel whenever she felt locked in her darkest moment.
"All this while, I thought you're the introvert kind?" Jason says, Damilola smiled at him, yes she was she didn't like going out and preferred to watch dramas all day or concerts and events were part of the things she enjoyed watching. June was the only reason she stepped out.
"Not really..." she tried to defend herself, how could she tell him, she preferred to watch dramas all day. He might not like that, she could as well be real but she couldn't and stick with her lies.
"Don't lie to me, it's showing over you" His eyes went up and down like he took a quick speed at her.
"It is?" Her eyes opened wide, and she took a look at herself, was it because of her clothes?
"I'm just kidding, you do look like one..." He smiled, "But-" he paused, and glanced around, she wondered what he had to ask, and her mind played tricks with her, thinking and searching every part to figure out what he wanted to say "But were you an introvert in school?" Damilola interrupts,
"Am I what?" She said at the same time he did.
"I don't do anything, um... I was just a student" she replied awkwardly.
"A student?" Jason cleared his throat, "Uh..." He asked confused.
"Yeah, university-" She shrugged, smiling sheepishly, she had no idea why she had a smile on, the situation got weird.
"Oh..." Jason licked his lip, and asked "What do you study then?" He asked, going along with her.
"Oh, I studied English-" she paused, swallowed, she was spilling things to him, things she had never gotten to say to anyone.
"Ooooou, that's a good one," Jason said ignoring her change of expression. Damilola chuckled softly and looked away unable to understand why he asked so many questions.
"Gosh, you're so funny," Damilola said, with a fake smile.
"I would like to see you again, I don't know about my schedule, but I wouldn't like to add the birthday party to my number of dates, that's your decision but I would more than happy if you came, and-"
"Jason," she called and adjusted.
"Hey," he took her hands and Damilola froze, his hands felt so warm and tender. "Look, I know you're trying to push me away, I don't know why but I really want us to meet again, and I want this to continue," he said. "I want to show you that you Dami, are the girl I want" he said, confessing his love to her like a high school student, and his made her heart flutter.
