Arabella POV
"Mate!" I remained frozen in place as soon as I heard Jacques say those words.
"What do you mean?" I finally asked as soon as I found my voice, praying silently for my voice not to waver.
"She is my mate Arabella, the rogue girl is my mate!" He clarified by making blood drain from my face. My gaze flickered from Jacques to her as I stared with disbelief, earlier she was bold and snarky but right now she is whimpering like a young twig and tears streaming down her cheeks. 'Such a good act!' I sneered internally.
"So?" I asked with a stern tone, that doesn't change anything, besides she is just a filthy rogue who needs to be killed immediately for trespassing our border.
"Shut up!" He barked using his alpha tone, his hazel eyes glowering and I immediately knew it was his wolf. I felt shocked but I immediately hid it, his wolf never raised his voice at me. His wolf never looked at me with such contempt and anger.
"I am sorry for my behavior but my wolf just couldn't take you insulting our mate," he said as I dug my nails into my skin trying to hide the pain coursing through my veins.
"Now what?" I voiced with a stern voice. "Do you mean to tell me that you are going to accept her?" I added in a demanding tone as I put a strand of the hair back to my ear.
"No, I am not, as you said earlier, it doesn't change anything, it's still us, we would still be the Alpha and Luna of the pack fulfilling our responsibilities to the pack," Jacques spoke so softly and smoothly that made me more furious.
'Does he even know what he is saying right now, just because I am brave, bold, strong, and perfect does not mean I don't have emotions?' I thought to myself before quickly gathering myself and facing him with a stern look on my face.
"And her?" I tilted my head. " What will happen to her?” I added.
"She will be staying in the pack, her staying here would make my wolf go stronger and I am sure it is not a problem for you because I knew you would sacrifice anything for me and the good of the pack," he stated with a pleading look on his face.
"Well, you are wrong! I do have a lot of problems with that! I don't care but she is not going to stay in the pack!" I stated.
"I can't just leave her alone, my wolf might go feral, you know what that means Arabella," he said, practically lifting his hands in the air.
"Your wolf will surely be able to survive that! He is an Alpha wolf, not a pup! He has enough self control to reject her and recover! We made a pact Jacques, you can't just throw it away without even trying," I blurted angrily at him. "Besides I never knew the werewolf laws support polygamy," I said with a smile on my lips.
"Arabella," he whispered, "I know this is hard to take right now but I will be giving you some time to think about it," he added.
For the first time since the conversation, I finally noticed Skylar his beta watching with an amused look on his face, and Zane his gamma with a pitiful look on his face. Skylar never liked me anyway and also did let me know about it when he got an opportunity, and as for Zane his face was probably just distorted because of the gamma bond between us, soon enough he would start siding with his Alpha.
"No! I would not agree to such a thing, it is either me or her," I protested vehemently, " I would not let her stay in the pack!" I added. Not when I knew her ulterior motives, clearly she is here to ruin my relationship with Jacques and also destroy the pack.
"Arabella, you still don't understand," I heard him speaking, jerking me out of my thoughts. "I would always choose you but my wolf needs a mate," he said in a whisper. I let a small sigh escape my lips, there was no point in coaxing him, besides I already tried that in the past, and look what happened! I was killed brutally by his lovely mate but that is not going to happen this time
"Fine!" I exhaled and I could see relief etched immediately on his face which made me clench my fists, "she would stay in the pack. Who knows your wolf might die if I decide to kill her or send her away from the pack! I added with a hint of mockery, his expression was now filled with his hurt as soon as he sensed the mockery behind my sweet tone.
"Arabella, please," he ran his hands through his hair and shut his eyes tightly," please understand me just this once!" He added, making me grit my teeth with fury.
"Jacques, I am trying to and I wish you understood me too. Besides I already accepted that you bring her to the pack," I paused, taking a sharp breath trying to hide the pain in my voice.
"As you can see, I am tired right now and covered with blood, I need to return to the pack," I finally said with a firm voice before walking out of the pack," It still hurts, Jacques didn't even notice me wounded, instead, he was bothered about convincing me to let his mate stay in the pack.
"Luna,” I heard a familiar voice call after me, it was Zane. I halt in my tracks, a confused look on my face, so silly of me to expect Jacques.
"Alpha says I drop you back to the pack," he finally said with a pleading look on his face.
"No thanks, I will be fine on my own," I spat pursing my lips.
"Please Luna, can you please hop in for my sake?" he said with his voice almost in a whisper.
"Fine!” I agreed to take the ride because Zane has been the only one nice to me all this while. Why should I make an enemy of someone who's simply platonic?
The ride back to the pack was slow and silent. He never said a word to me which is exactly what I needed at the moment except that I didn't like his constant looking at me. I leaned to the window side processing what had happened today as different emotions swirled in me.
"Are you okay Luna?" I heard Zane ask.
"Yes!" I snapped at him feeling a bit remorseful for doing that before noticing that we had arrived. I immediately climbed out before heading straight to my room.
