I immediately sat up with interest, clutching the phone tightly "You saw Jack? Where? “She hesitated for a while then replied. "I saw him helping a woman who was on crutches into that fancy new restaurant that just opened. That's why I thought it was you.” My breath hitched, my hand holding the phone trembled. A restaurant? With a woman? But he said it was very urgent, I don't think a restaurant would be a place to meet for something very urgent. And with a woman whom I didn't even know about. I cleared mythroat and asked. “A woman? Who is that?” "You know what? I'm sure it's nothing. Maybe I’m wrong,” she said before the call ended. "Wait Mandy...! " I couldn't stop her on time, I rubbed my chest while swallowing the lump in my throat. I was-about to drop my phone when a notification popped up. It was a-gossip news update, and it had something to do with the fashiondesign brand. (Famous Annie Maddox has returned!!! She was spotted with a man who might be her husband or boyfriend.) The man’s identity was unknown, but the news stated that Annie was seen with a man who was one of the city’s most eligible bachelors. I was going to ignore it, until I saw the picture. Even though the picture wasn’t clear, I could slightly recognize the man. The phone-dropped from my hand, I stared at it, my eyes trembling. "Please...please...Let this not be true. Please.” I chanted, praying it wasn’t who I thought it was. I picked up my phone and called Mandy again. She answered on the second ring. I spoke immediately. “Mandy, can you give me the address where you saw Jack?” “Sure. I’ll text it to you,” she said. “Thanks,” I replied before the call ended. She sent me the address. I stood up and picked up my coat to protect myself from the cold. Then I grabbed my car keys I drove to the restaurant. As I stepped out of the car, I could feel my-legs shaking slightly as I walked toward the door. I entered and looked around. There were only a few couples there. I looked around again, but I couldn’t see anyone who looked like Jack. I breathed a sigh of relief, about to leave, and that's when I saw them. His hand was on hers as he helped her sit down, a pleasing smile on his lips. It turned out Mandy was right after all. He was with another woman. A ckoked sound escaped my lips but I muffled it immediately by slapping my hands over my mouth. I felt like my heart was shattering. It hurt and I couldn't breathe properly. Deciding I needed to hear what he had to say, I brought out my phone and called him. He paused to check his phone. I held my breath, waiting for him to answer. But instead, immediately he saw it was me, his face changed. It changed so fast, I took a step back. His lips twisted as he stared at his phone with a dead and fierce look, almost like hatred. Then he flipped the phone and went back to smiling at her. His eyes soft and warm on her face. Something I had always wished, even begged for from him but never received. The tears began to stream down my face. I did nothing to stop them. I just witnessed the man I loved and was pregnant for, coldly ignore my call and instead focus on another woman. I immediately turned and walked back to my car with faltering steps. I slammed the steering wheel as I drove, filling the car with the soundof my sobbing. Snot ran down my lips and I could barely see the road in front of me. But I didn't care. All I cared about was the feeling ofbetrayal dished out to me. How could he? So he left me, his wife, late at night to pick up his ex-girlfriend, his first love, as soon as he heard she was back. I got back and passed out on the sofa, he didn't come back that night. The next morning, I woke up, got dressed, and went to the company even though I felt like staying back and hiding my face from theworld. I was waiting in front of the elevator about to enter when I heard a conversation. “Did you hear? Annie Maddox is back—the fashion queen,” Lena, one of the employees at the DeBlacks Corporation, said,I looked up and saw her standing with her friend Gemmie. They were waiting for the elevator just like me. I was standing behind them. “The fashion designer?” Gemmie asked. “Yes,” Judy continued. “She’s Mr. Blacks’ girlfriend. In fact, she’s theonly woman he has ever publicly acknowledged. I heard she’s his firstlove.” “Hmmm… but I thought Ivy and the boss were in some kind of—” “Of course not,” Judy interrupted. “She’s just his mistress.” “Really?” Gemmie said as they both laughed. “What a shame. She probably thinks sleeping with the boss will make her his wife.” I clenched my hands, but I didn’t say anything. The elevator doors finally opened, and we all entered. They shared alook and continued their conversation. “If I were her, I would resign and disappear. It’s clear the boss doesn’tlove her. He’s only using her to satisfy himself.” “Judy, she can hear you,” Gemmie whispered. I said nothing. They were clearly enjoying my situation. They were among the women who were jealous that I worked closely with Jack. “But I’m telling the truth,” Judy said. “She’s just a mistress. She’s about to be thrown away now that Miss Maddox is back.” I clenched my fists. “Mistress…” I murmured faintly, I was the rightful wife. The words echoed in my head. I was the rightful wife, but I couldn’teven speak up to defend myself. When I got to the office, I decided I wasn’t in the mood to work. I wanted to ask Jack for leave so I could go home. I knocked and stepped into his office. He was sitting in his swivel chair, dressed in a different outfit. “You’re late,” he said in a cold voice.
