Mischief and Mayhem

CHAPTER SEVEN: MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM Alex walked into the class and sat down in the front row where she and Luna normally sit. She was surprised when she saw Luna walking up to Lucas even after he had annoyed her at the door of the classroom. Looking away from them she focused on the Principal that had just entered with a parchment in her hand. She looked terrified and Alex wondered what could make the woman scared. Just then Luna settled on the seat next to her and smiled at her. “I hope you and Lucas can talk later, especially after what he did for you,” she said. Alex nodded at her, “He’s the one who didn't show up for the date and then blamed me for kissing Jesse.” “I'm still upset with you over that,” Luna snapped. “Why don't you like Jesse?” Alex asked. “I never said I don't like him. Jesse is betrothed to Annie and you hanging around him makes you easy prey for Annie and then there's also the fact that he may have used his s****l energy on you without your knowledge, I'm just looking out for you and I don't want you to get hurt.” Alex smiled at Luna as she finished and she squeezed her hand gently. “I'm sorry if I made you worry, I just didn't want you to think I can't make decisions myself, besides I really like Lucas but I don't know how I feel about Jesse.” “Maybe it's his aura,” Luna suggested. Alex shook her head, “I don't think so. There's more to it.” “Students!” the Principal’s powerful voice rang out in the classroom instantly shutting down everyone’s voice. “Good morning, Principal Delcoix,” they greeted in unison. Principal Delcoix smiled at them then opened up the parchment. “This morning we got this parchment from the Guardian Dhampirs who sent it to us as soon as the Psychic Dhampirs gave them the parchment,” the Principal began, “We don't know the full details yet but what we are sure of is that there is a war brewing and we need to get you all ready, especially with the recent information of last night. Therefore defense shall be learned every day for two hours.” The students waited until she had finished and left before everywhere became rowdy and questions began flying at their teacher. “What is the parchment about?” one of the students asked the teacher. “Why didn't she read what's on the parchment?” another asked. “What is a parchment?” Everyone kept quiet at the question which Alex had asked. Now she wished she had just kept quiet as they all stared at her. “You really are mundane,” Annie said with spite. Before Alex could reply however, Lucas beat her to it, “At least she's not a spoiled brat like yourself.” “Ohhh! Burn!!” the class hollered as they all burst out laughing at Annie. Alex focused on her mind and imagined Lucas. When she opened her eyes however she was sitting down beside Lucas and everyone in the class was staring at her except Lucas and Luna. “What’s wrong?” she asked. “Why does she have two gifts? And a rare one at that?” one of the girls in her class asked. Alex suddenly understood why Lucas and Luna had told her not to say anything. “Come with me to the Principal’s office, Alex,” Nicole finally spoke. She led Alex out of the class and just then even though she felt terrified especially when she remembered the dead body it feels like she was being taken for questioning. Relax, she heard Lucas’s voice inside her mind loud and clear. Leave me alone, she snapped at him. She may like him but she was also upset with him that he didn't show and he didn't make any excuse or any explanation. You’re not gonna like the answer, his voice interrupts her mine again. She liked the fact that they were talking. At least it distracted her from whatever was the reason the principal was calling her for. Did you make an effort and it didn't turn out well? I don't judge if that's what you're thinking. Focus on your meeting with the Principal, his voice sounded in her mind. Alex scoffed, Typical you! That's how you're always running from the conversation. We are going to have one after you're done with the Principal, I'm still here, he said. Just like that she entered the Principal’s office and cleared her mind. “Welcome, Miss Vladimir,” The Principal said. Alex nodded, “Thank you, Ma’am.” “When did you notice you have the teleportation gift?” the Principal asked. Alex blinked. “Excuse me? Was that why I was summoned, Ma’am?” Principal Delcoix nodded, “I'm sorry but we don't have time for formalities so let's get right down to business.” “I got the powers yesterday, I used it when I was locked up in the classroom with my friend,” Alex replied. “Are there any additional powers I need to know about?” Delcoix asked. “No, just these two I've mentioned,” Alex replied. Something in her gut kept telling her not to reveal the third gift which she has and she decided to listen to it and her mother. “Alright, that's all. You may go.” Principal Delcoix watched as Alex walked away from the office and she knew something wasn't right. She stared at the parchment and read the first line. A lone wolf, forgotten and casted aside, now to be known in either chaos or order. Harbinger of Death to Mankind or Savior of the Dhampirs. She furrowed her brow and continued reading the prophecy still trying to make sense of the prophecy. Gifted with the magic of a thousand, walked through Earth and chose the best path unless under the influence. Principal Delcoix tried to understand the meaning of the prophecy but it seemed like an impossible task. She could only understand the ending paragraph. War is brewing, lost souls, darkness, a single light, shining amongst all, the rose in the midst of thorns, what happens to such beauty? She sighed, the psychic clan would never interpret their prophecies instead, they would tell you the prophecy would unravel itself. “Have you been able to figure it out yet?” Nicole asked entering her office. “Nope,” the Principal replied as they stared at the parchment again. “Whatever it is, I hope it explains well and gives us good news,” Nicole said. The Principal nodded, she couldn't have agreed more. *** “So? Why did the Principal summon you?” Luna asked the moment she got back to class. Alex shrugged, “She’s asking when I started teleporting.” “Seems like you are always gonna be attracted to drama, Alex,” Luna chuckled. Alex laughed, “Why would you say that?” “It's your second day in school and we have two dead bodies,” Annie whispered, “Then you have this thing with your powers, the elemental powers you have is actually very nice but it's not meant to be for one person but you're the only one who has it and then the teleportation hasn't been gifted to anyone for the last one hundred years.” “Wow!” Alex exclaimed at the information Luna had just given her. Just then Jesse walked up to her and smiled, “Hi, love, hope you slept well? A small blush crept up her cheeks and she smiled, “I knew you did something for me to keep having those reoccurring dreams.” Jesse raised his hands in surrender, “Nah, it's all you.” Alex chuckled and she caught Lucas staring daggers at Jesse while Annie was shooting daggers at her. “You should go,” Alex finally said. “Cos of Annie and Lucas?” he asked with a slight chuckle. Alex nodded, “I don't want to seem disrespectful. Besides, I don't know what exactly is going on between us.” “We’ll talk after school, yeah?” Alex nodded, “Sure.” Then he headed off to his seat but not before blowing her a kiss. Alex focused on the teacher who had just come as Lucas kept burning a hole in the back of her head with his intense staring.
