Chapter 6: Watched The feeling didn’t go away. Even after I left the hallway… Even after I closed my bedroom door… It stayed. Like something unseen was following me. Watching me all the time.I stood in the middle of her room, her arms wrapped tightly around herself. The mansion felt different now. Not just big. Not just quiet. But alive. And she didn’t like it. Her eyes moved slowly around the room, scanning every corner. Nothing. Everything looked normal. Too normal. She exhaled softly and walked toward the window, pulling the curtain aside slightly. The outside world looked peaceful. Calm. So different from the tension inside these walls. “How can a place this beautiful feel so wrong…” she murmured. A soft knock interrupted her thoughts. Her body stiffened instantly. Not again. “Who is it?” she asked carefully. “It’s me.” Leo. She hesitated for a moment… then opened the door. He stood there as usual—calm, composed, unreadable. But his eyes… His eyes studied her a little too closely. “Is everything alright?” he asked. I forced a small smile. “Yes. Why wouldn’t it be?” Leo didn’t respond immediately. Instead, his gaze drifted past her… briefly scanning the room behind her. Like he was checking for something. Or someone. “You shouldn’t wander alone,” he said quietly. Her brows furrowed. “What do you mean?” “The mansion is… complicated,” he replied. “That’s not an answer,” she said. A faint smile touched his lips. “It’s the only one you’re getting.” she crossed her arms. “You sound like him.” Leo’s expression changed slightly. Not much. But enough. “I work for him,” he said. “That doesn’t mean you have to talk like him.” For a brief second… There was silence between them. Then Leo leaned slightly closer, lowering his voice. “Some doors,” he said carefully, “are closed for a reason.” Sofia’s heart skipped. Her mind immediately went back to the hallway. The door. The warning. She searched his face. “What happens if someone opens one?” Leo held her gaze for a moment. Longer than necessary. Then he straightened. “They regret it.” A chill ran down her spine. Before she could ask anything else— Footsteps echoed in the hallway. Both of them turned. Adrian. He was walking toward them slowly, his expression unreadable. But his eyes— His eyes were locked on Leo. Not her. Leo stepped back immediately. “Sir.” Adrian didn’t respond. His gaze shifted slowly… from Leo… to Sofia. The air changed. Tension. Sharp. Heavy. “Is there a problem?” Adrian asked. His voice was calm. Too calm. “No,”I said quickly. “We were just talking.” “I can see that.” Something about the way he said it made her uneasy. Leo lowered his gaze slightly. “I’ll take my leave.” Adrian didn’t stop him. But he didn’t look away either. Not until Leo was gone. Then— Silence fell again. my heart began to race again. Adrian stepped closer. Slowly. Deliberately. “What did he say to you?” The question caught her off guard. “Nothing important,” she replied. A lie. Adrian’s eyes darkened slightly. “Be careful who you listen to,” he said quietly. Her brows furrowed. “Why? Should I only listen to you?” His gaze didn’t waver. “Yes.” The answer came too quickly. Too easily. Her heart skipped. “That sounds more like control than advice,” she said. Adrian stepped closer again. Now there was barely any space between them. “And what if it is?” Her breath caught. For a moment, neither of them spoke. The tension between them… It wasn’t just fear anymore. It was something else. Something deeper. More dangerous. Adrian’s gaze softened—just slightly. “Stay out of places you don’t understand,” he said quietly. Her chest tightened. The door. He was talking about the door. “I wasn’t going to open it,” she said softly. “I know.” His voice dropped lower. “But you wanted to.” Her heart pounded. Yes. She did. And that scared her the most
