CHAPTER 6. CONFESSIONS

1753 Words
BLAKE'S POV I wait for Laura to say something, but she just stares at me. I really don't have time for this, so I get up, but she starts talking. "Look, the guest list is fine, I just needed..." What the f**k? If the guest list is fine, then why are we here? "Laura, I don't have time for games. This is serious and important to me. It should be to you too. We already went over every detail several times. I have to go." I say. "No, wait. It is important to me, but it is also important that you know that I love you, Blake. You have been more than a friend to me. You have supported me and cared for me over the years, believing in me when nobody, not even my two mothers did. I know that despite the bachelor facade, you want to settle down, have a family, and love someone, I think, is me, Blake, you should love me." I don't even know what to think. Laura is an attractive woman, with her blonde hair, her blue eyes, her shape is really perfect too, but we are just going to do business together, I don't think of her any other way, plus, there is something about Mya that I just can't let go. I want to go to her right now and repeat last night. This time, I want to take my time to taste every part of her body. I am definitely not attracted to Laura that way. "Listen, Laura, I don't..." Suddenly, she jumps at me and kisses me with all her passion, I can tell she had been waiting for this. I try to respond, holding on to her waist. Who knows, maybe it could work. The more we kiss, the more I realize this isn't working. I stop our kiss and look at her, getting ready for what I'm about to say. I don't want to break her heart, but I can't lie to myself. Her face is so happy, and I feel like a jerk for this "Laura, the kiss was.." "I know, amazing, right?" She cuts me off, leaning on my chest. "Laura, I..." She cuts me off again. "I know. I knew that Mya didn't mean anything like that to you. I saw you kissing last night, but I know she was just trying to get it out of her system. She had a crazy crush on you growing up, that is why she left. Today, I heard a lot of people rumor about how you two were so close at the funeral, holding each other and all, but they don't know you like I do, I'm sure you were trying to be a good friend, nothing more. We can tell our parents about us after the grand opening...." I can't let her continue living this fantasy, so I step away from her, still facing her. "Laura, I don't feel the same that you do. To me, you are a good friend, I don't want to settle, I don't want a relationship. I'm sorry." I turn around to leave, I can see her eyes are getting teary, and I feel like a rat for hurting her. So I leave her alone. Something Laura said does make me wonder about Mya and what happened last night. It was unexpected, but it was perfect, I can't think of anyone making me enjoy myself so much before, could it be... is it possible that she feels something else? There is only one way to find out. I guess, so I head to her room. "Mr. Meade." Lisa, Laura's biological mom calls out to me when I'm on my way upstairs to look for Mya. "Before you go find Miss Elloway." She says, almost smiling. "Mr. Anderson requested your presence tomorrow at the Devereaux building to read the will. Please be there at 9:00 am." She says. I wonder why would their family lawyer need me to be there? I know grandma Eloise liked me and taught me a lot of the business, but I can't imagine why I need to be there. I don't ask anything, I just nod, and she leaves. MYA'S POV Almost everyone is out of the house. All that is left is Blake. I wish it didn't bother me, but I sort of feel betrayed by Laura. She was my friend growing up, I never cared about social classes or if her moms worked for my grandmother. I confided in her. It was a long time ago, but her kissing Blake just bothers me so much!. I walk up the stairs, looking forward to my bed. To my surprise, Ashton is waiting for me in the family room. This takes me back. He used to wait for me in this same area every afternoon after we had finished homework. Grandma Eloise had to remodel the whole upstairs after I ran away with Ashton. She needed it to be open enough for her to check on us.. We were only allowed to be here, and Ernest had to watch our every step. "Hi." I tell him smiling. "Hi." He responds. "What are you doing here?" I ask. "Well, I wanted to catch up with you. Too many people downstairs, so I thought it was safe to come here and wait." He smiles, giving me a hug that I return happily. I have missed my friend, we tried to keep in touch when I went away, but things turned weird and I stopped returning his calls. Right now, it feels like old times, and I can't wait to catch up with him. "Go for a walk with me?" He asks, extending his hand for me to take. He still has a beautiful smile. How could I say no. I take his hand and nod. "Just let me get changed really fast." I tell him running to my room. I quickly get changed into jeans. t- shirt and my converse, fix my hair in a ponytail, and come running to him. He opens his arms wide for me, and I run into them. "I thought you guys stopped talking a long time ago." Blake's velvety voice sounds from behind us. We turn around, still hugging, looking at him. "We are catching up." I tell him. Grabbing Ashton's hand, walking past by Blake. His eyes have anger and fight. He looks like he needs to say something, but he is struggling. "We need to talk." He tells me. I am not even curious to know what he wants, for all I know, he wants to ask me not to tell Laura about last night, and believe me, I don't need anyone to know, but I also don't want to talk about it, ever again. "Blake, for once in your life, do yourself a favor and leave. You are embarrassing yourself." Ashton spits out, and I see Blake going for him, but I quickly get in the middle, putting my hand on his chest. "I really don't want to talk Blake, right now, I'm going out. You should probably go back to your girlfriend, but I had enough of this macho attitude from the two of you. You grew up like brothers, for once just be adults!" I tell them both, but more addressing Blake. I take Ashton's hand, and we walk down the stairs. "Did you say he has a Girfriend?" Ashton asks. "I think it is something new. I don't really want to talk about it." I tell him. "Sorry, Is just that Blake does not have girlfriends, he meets girls, f***s them and forgets about them, or he hides them from everyone until he had enough of them. He only had one steady relationship like 5 years ago. They were together for a couple of years, but one day, she just left. he was heartbroken for like a month, but then, he went back to just being Blake." He has this bitter tone when he talks about him that really bothers me. It could also be that I am now part of that group that he never showed to the world, just one more girl her f****d and forgot about. "Ashton, can we not talk about him anymore?" I ask him as we approach the front door. "Sorry, you are right. ok, I know I said to go for a walk, but I wonder if you want to go for a ride to town?" He asks. I just nod, heading towards his red Mercedes Maybach. He doesn't have to tell me which one is his car, I just know, he has always been a show off. He gets in the driver seat, and we fly to town. We stop in front of a building that looks familiar, but I can't think of how. There is a sign that reads "The Porter House Cocktail Lounge" That is a nice name. He makes his way to the entrance and, to my surprise, pulls a set of keys and opens the main door. When we step in, we are welcomed to a beautiful bar, really big space, with tall oak tables and leather chairs. On the other side of the room, there's a big stage. The memory comes back to me like it was yesterday... After we ran several miles to leave what I used to call my prison, we took a bus to town. We broke into an abandoned building downtown, but it looked nothing like it does now. The ceiling had a huge opening where we could see the stars, we stayed here under a throw blanket and ate some snacks that he brought and had a great time until I panicked and begged him to go back. He made me a promise that day. "One day, I will buy this building, and I will make it our refuge. Only friends will be invited, and you won't have to worry about your grandmother ever again." His boysh voice enters my mind in my memories. He was so protective of me back then. " This could be your refuge, Mya, if you want it to be." He tells me, holding my hands, looking at me lovingly. I hope he isn't trying to tell me what I'm thinking. Ashton was probably my best friend when I was growing up. As much as grandma didn't like him, she also didn't mind us hanging out, but everything could change if he decides to confess feelings for me.
