Chapter 50

1335 Words
Odell looked down at his phone. Reading over the message from Massy letting him know she was ok and still traveling. It had yet to be two full days and he was already missing her, and for Massy it was no different. He smiled looking over her timeline as noise from his friends echoed through the house. He had plenty of energy it was just him putting that energy into going out with his friends was a very high slim to none. Skipping out on partying he found himself up bright and early for another day training camp. With Massy being out of the country he could admit he got through life without her fairly easy. Sleep, train, play football, and party then repeat. But it was his partner, it was Massy that brought substance. Sure having to wake up at 5am was like pulling every individual eyelash out one by one, but waking up at 5am to Massy laying across his chest is was made it less painful, waking up to someone who understood him inside and out, who understood his hurdles and was willing to help him over them. It wasn't until he woke up without her next to him did he truly realize how good he had it. With a mixture of his gigantic ego and the unmeasurable amount of testosterone coursing through his body. Josh Norman assured the sports world that he was done talking about Odell, but we sooner than later came to terms that was a lie as he spent his whole summer doing interviews that talked less about his football career and more about what he was going to do to and his genuine dislike for Odell. With his most recent comments with ESPN the Magazine, Norman told Kevin Van Valkenburg "Everybody saw what he was. People from around the league were coming up to me afterward and saying, 'He does that crap all the time.' He lost so much respect from people for that little tantrum. I've already got a couple people telling me, 'OK, I've got a hit out on him.' It's going to be rough for him this year. And he brought it on himself. He's skilled and talented. I won't take that away from him. But he's never been through any adversity in his life. It's like, when are you ever going to grow up?" Or his interview with the Charlotte Observer's Scott Fowler. "He's a good players or whatever, but he's not what he thinks he is. If you hit guys like that, if you completely jam them up and shake them up, then they can't relate to that... So they start making excuses like, 'OH, HE TOUCHED ME!' They don't know how to respond because they never got hit like that! Every time I see him, I'm going to hit him in the mouth. I don't care. Until he stops crying and bitching." Norman's obsession with Odell had many fans and even players thinking the only reason he signed with them was to continue the attention he was getting from the whole ordeal. To an outsider looking in, it was entertaining. Watching one man boil with so much hate he spent every interview he did talking about fighting him, as the other man continued minding his own business. It was a match-up that was destined to get ratings through the roof, even if you weren't a Redskin fan or a Giants fan, you were still going to tune into the game to see what goes down. However if you were a personal friend of Odell's not just in the football world but outside of it as well. Josh Norman was looking more like a fly that wouldn't leave you alone as you sat at a picnic table trying to eat your burger and less like a professional football player, and to Redskins wide receiver and personal friend DeSean Jackson, Norman was well on his way to making more enemies than friends this season. "YOU AIN'T TOUCHED ME YET!" DeSean yelled back at Norman tucking the football under his arm. "Best CB on the field!? ... To who!" The trash talking had reached an all time high between DeSean and Norman. DeSean had managed to outrun and embarrass Norman practice after practice. "If you can't guard me you definitely ain't guarding Dez or Odell!" Norman smiled as he stood up straight listening to DeSean continue his trash talk. "Already did that and succeeded!" He said back with a masked smile. "Yet you out here gettin passed up!" Teammates began closing in on DeSean, making sure to be in arms reach to defuse a situation. He tossed the ball to one of the equipment managers. "75 mill and you trash... You ain't s**t without trying to hold Odell's hand!" "I'm not talking about you though. That's the real problem!" Norman spat back pulling his helmet from his head. "Ion give a f**k about that! You can have a crush on whoever you want, just be able to back yo s**t up. Out here gettin burnt every damn week! Change yo fuckin panties and stop beggin for attention off another man's name! Stop spinning yo time doing interviews about my boy and run a fuckin route!" DeSean said before walking back to the sidelines. His anger with Josh had officially boiled over, not just defending his friend but DeSean had a very good point. It was the beginning of a new season and he wasn't going to spend it ranked bottom of the barrel because Josh Norman had some high school crush on Odell and couldn't stop talking about him. It was obvious that Josh had a run in with players other than Odell, and after awhile we had to look at the bigger picture that if other players could have scuffles then get up and shake hands but Norman couldn't. Then maybe just maybe it was Josh that was the crybaby, and not Odell. "Odell, how's your ankle?" Odell smiled and looked down at his foot, moving it side to side showing the crowd he was perfectly fine "I knew YOU was going to be the first to ask Mike." He pointed in the man's direction still smiling at the familiar faces that stood everyday to interview players after every Giants practice. "My ankle is fine, nothing to worry about." "What happened?" Odell bit down on his bottom lip then licked them, then adjusted the black elastic hair tie around his wrist that he stole from Massy's side of the bed. "Uh it's nothing serious. Just got stepped on. It's football, it's a rough sport, it happens." "Have you heard the claims that a certain individual has made in recent interviews about you having a rough season? Does that throw your game off or the way you look at the season?" Odell tried his best to not roll his eyes, but just like in the past he would keep from speaking about Josh Norman, he kept his smile and folded his arms across his chest and leaned back balancing in the balls of his feet. "If it's not about football or the Giants it's no need to address it... I live this life every day. This is not a joke to me. I don't like when I feel as if my life has been made a mockery of. On the field is the only place I have control. Nothing has thrown my game off. I'm healthy, I'm happy, I'm ready for the season. Odell paused and ran his hand over the back of his neck. "This is the most honest I can be: I'm trying to play football until the wheels fall off. For me, football is everything. All that stuff that goes on outside of football is a distraction and it's not fair to myself or Giants fans. Football has made me who I am today ... All I care about is football, really. I could care less about anything outside of it."
