Chapter 25

"Well, this isn't a matter of cheating, because no one cheated on anyone. This is a matter of insecurities, trusting one another. You both are celebrities, yes athletes, but also celebrities and very popular ones. There are going to be stories, stories that are completely made up and stories that are bending what is the truth and guess what?... There is nothing you can do about it. You can say what the truth is if you choose to and keep it going." Odell leaned back in his chair the outside noises of gathered family could be heard through the windows. A Father's Day celebration brought Odell back home to Louisiana this time without Massy leading both their families to wonder what happened. "OJ image how embarrassed and hurt she was when you asked her that! You do that all the time and you don't realize it till the damage is done. You are so damn blunt with your words! You and I both know Massy wouldn't cheat on you! Yet you were in the moment and that's what came out!" "So then what? I apologize? And everything goes back to normal..." Heather nodded her head and took a drink of her water. "First of all you need to fix this insecurity you..." "I'm not insecure." Odell said cutting his mother off. "Then why'd you get so defensive when I said you were?" Heather folded her arms across her chest and waited for a moment. Odell said nothing, instead he he leaned his head back and looked at the ceiling. "Odell, if you can't handle being in a high profile relationship then you probably shouldn't be in one. I know how much you don't like the media, but stories are going to come and go and you need to trust Massy the same way she trusts you. Especially if she hasn't given you any reason to not trust her." Sonny made his way into the kitchen, Odell's father paced behind him carrying a tray of food. Odell leaned down and placed his hands under Sonny's little arms and hoisted him up and sat him on the counter in front of him. Odell sighed and looked at his younger brother the greenish transparent pacifier was stuck securely in his mouth. "What do you think Bubby?" Odell asked with a slight smile. Sonny was quite and swung his feet back and forth lightly hitting Odell in the chest with the tip of his shoe. He smiled and pulled the pacifier from his mouth and offered it to Odell. He looked down at it and smiled. "That's your way of telling me I'm acting like a baby?" Massy's Father's Day celebration also put the troubles with Odell behind her. Only to be brought back up once she landed back in California. "I didn't do anything. So I'm not going to sit here and sulk about it. I gave tickets to a FRIEND that's it! Tickets that were going to go to waste because no one was going to use them. It was the media that decided to take it further than what it was and it was Odell who questioned me." Alex sat on the edge of the pool, the water rolled down her tan legs as she moved them up and down in the water. "So you leave? You just broke everything off!?" Massy shook her head and closed her eyes. "Alex, do you know how embarrassing that is? It's bad enough the media has turned a joint interview and him being at a game into me cheating! Then the one person I expect to know me better than that also questions me!" Alex looked up towards the sun, she scrunched up her face even though she had sunglasses on. "I guess I didn't see it that way. That is kind of embarrassing... Have you spoken to him?" Massy sighed and looked back down at the water. "No." "Massy..." "What!?" She frowned at Alex. "You can't just ignore him! This isn't high school, you two aren't just boyfriend and girlfriend... This is your fiancé, you damn near share a life with this man." Alex spoke at Massy instead of too her. She was silent for several seconds, she didn't want to say anything because she knew Alex was right. Massy's actions were extreme but so was Odell's question. "I may have overreacted..." She spoke under her breath. "I just wish he would ignore the media when they talk about me the same way he ignores them when they talk about him." Massy fell into silence again. The ripples and splashes of water bounced against the edge of the large man made pool. "I just wish he understood I don't want anybody other than him." She said pressing her lips together and shrugging his shoulders. Her face had fallen into a frown and her bottom lip slightly poked out. "So don't you think these are things you need to be telling him." Alex said. She didn't need Massy to answer to know she was right. "You need to talk to him... TODAY! Not when you get home and go to bed and wake up the next morning and go about your business. You know you're good for forgetting to clue somebody in on something before it's too late!" Alex tossed a frown and arched eyebrow at Massy. "Iigh mom." Massy said squinting her eyes. Instead of looking at her friend she continued looking over the crystal clear water. Both women eventually fell into silence. Just enjoying the small break, no media, no fans, no workouts, or games. Just calming outside noises of splashing water and local birds. "What ever happened to Michael? Why didn't you too work out?" Alex randomly asked. Massy remained calm. "He's too perfect." She simply said. "Excuse me?" Alex said with a laugh, as if she didn't hear her. "He's too perfect. He's literally the Prince of every Disney movie. Everything he does is perfect... He even breathes perfect... It's actually pretty interesting. He's like a art exhibit." Alex wasn't sure if Massy was being serious or not. She began laughing at her comparison and shook her head. "Isn't that what most girls want. A Disney movie Prince to save the day?" Massy shook her head. "Not me. Nope. I'm a mess. A hot mess..." "And Odell." Alex asked cutting Massy off. "A bigger mess... A tattooed covered mess. That I absolutely adore... Even when I am mad at him." Massy confessed. "Hmmm He's definitely prettier than you are... So he's not perfect." Alex asked while laughing. "Oh god no. Have you seen his feet!?" Alex frowned and smiled at the same time as Massy turned to him. Her face confused as to what could possibly be wrong with them. "It's like I just stare at him in amazement to how attractive he is, then I look at his feet and I get angry. He's like Tarzan, they look like he's been barefoot his whole life. They look like he was Fred Flintstone's chauffeur." Massy couldn't help the smile on her face. The more she spoke about him the happier she got. Anybody who was everybody could tell she was clearly in love with him even on their worst days.
