The Aftermath

Arianna pov The next week was absolutely miserable. Everyone was puking including her and Oliver. Oliver stayed home the next two days to help her with the kids as the kids would puke at random intervals throughout the day and night. Ari only heard from Lachlan once and that was the next morning asking her where she was and why she left. Then she told him letting him know she wouldn’t be at work for the next several days. Lachlan simply responded back with ‘ok.’ Sunday and Monday Arianna was too busy dealing with herself puking as well as her kids puking too worry about anything. The worst was the fact that her oldest son was autistic and didn’t understand the sensation of his stomach hurting meant he was going to puke. So Declan would sadly just randomly puke wherever while whining and crying, while she had to follow behind him trying not to get sick herself. Arianna wants to cry after Declan pukes all over the couch for the fourth time. “Take care of Declan, I’ll clean this up,” Oliver told her. “Okay,” she said gratefully as she ushered her crying son to the bathroom. Ari got him a glass of water and started running a semi-warm bath. It wasn’t until Thursday that the kids went back to school. Arianna wanted to take a break, but she knew that she needed to go to work. Ariel had texted her throughout the week and told her the house was low on groceries. Ari dropped the kids off at school then went by the store. Ariel had been doing several grocery runs for Arianna, but she decided to do it for a big reason. She just wasn’t ready to face Lachlan. When her and Oliver split up over a year ago she had tried dating, and the dating scene when a person is over thirty is definitely a battlefield like Pat sung about. These types were her favorite, the egotistical ones who used big words to try and make themselves smarter. When Ari called them out she didn’t get a second date. Then there was the vain ones who couldn’t stand the thought of a receding hairline so they simply shaved their whole head thinking that everyone could pull it off like Vin Diesel. The guys who commented on her weight or asked her when she planned on taking off the baby weight. Then the guys who hated the the fact that Ari was a mother and thought she was just looking for a meal ticket. Ari’s personal favorite the total opposite the guys who have had DUI’s so they can’t drive, lost their job, and apartment. These guys are basically just looking for some one to take care of them. Arianna was labeled a b***h for saying she already had three kids she wasn’t looking for a fourth. Arianna only lasted about six months and she just had enough, she had her kids to raise. Of course she missed the s*x, but in her experience most guys didn’t know what the hell they were doing and it wasn’t worth the effort. The s*x with Lachlan was out of this world it made Arianna a little depressed that he didn’t feel the same. Ari truly wasn’t ready to face the awkward meeting after being rejected. She knew that she shouldn’t have slept with her boss Ari thought glumly as she went up and down the aisles of the store. Arianna was putting away the groceries and every noise on edge had made her whip her head around looking for Lachlan. An hour had gone by and Ari decided that it seemed that she wasn’t going to run into him today. It was after lunch that Arianna decided that she needed to track down Lachlan as she still wasn’t feeling the best and wanted to go home early. Ariel went by her so Ari stopped her with a question. “Is Lachlan in his office? I need to talk to him.” Ariel gave her an odd look, “He’s been gone all week on business.” “Oh, well I’m going to head home, I’m still not feeling well,” Ari stated and grabbed her purse. “That’s right I forgot that you were gone all week,” Ariel said and Ari gave the young girl a weird look. “Good to know you missed me.” “No! I mean I knew you were gone, I just didn’t realize you were sick,” Ariel stated and Arianna thought the conversation was just getting weirder. “Well I’m going to go, you guys can handle clean up,” Arianna stated without waiting for a response. Lachlan pov Lachlan finally returned to the pack after a week away and was beyond excited to see his mate. His wolf especially had been whining constantly in his head after they had spent the night together. Lachlan returned Sunday night and had to wait a whole night to see her again. He spent the evening with his son Aiden who told him about his week that he had missed. Aiden complained about not going on his important alpha meetings like a good alpha should, and Lachlan told him that one day he would. That pacified his son enough that it let him eat dinner in peace. That evening his son slept with him in bed as was tradition when Lachlan returned from a long work trip. When he laid down into bed Aiden was already asleep, and he immediately rolled toward him seeking his father. Lachlan smiled, but couldn’t stop himself from imagining what it would be like to have Arianna on the other side of the bed. His wolf whined about not having his mate to cuddle with in bed. “All in good time buddy,” he muttered, praying to the moon Goddess that it would come true. . When he finally got to see Arianna again the next morning he pulled her into a hug. Arianna quickly turned around and pulled away from him which left his wolf whimpering. Arianna’s face had a look of confusion on it that Lachlan didn’t understand. She quickly schooled her expressed her face to one of cool professionalism. “Hey Mr. Anderson it’s good to see you got back safely,” Arianna stated as she took a step back. Lachlan didn’t understand what was going on and before he realized it Arianna was gone out the swinging door. Lachlan couldn’t help but follow after his mate like a little puppy, or wolf and watched from the sidelines as his mate got the buffet ready for breakfast. “How are you?” Lachlan asked tentatively after hovering a few moments. “I’m fine,” she told him curtly and continued to ignore his presence. Lachlan went to open his mouth but the new omega who was helping in the kitchens did before he could. “I’m glad you are feeling better, how are the pups?” s**t! Lachlan completely forgot that she told him that she and her kids were sick. Wolf’s didn’t get sick, not even the pups except on rare occasions. When he got the message from Arianna that she was sick he had to talk to his beta who confirmed that yes humans did in fact get sick, especially the children. “Finally better, it was the worst virus we have had in a long time, even Ollie got sick.” Ari commented offhandedly. “That’s odd, usually men don’t get sick,” Emma commented and then it clicked that Ari was talking about her ex. Lachlan couldn’t help the small growl that ripped out of his throat before he stopped it. Arianna looked around, “Did you hear that?” She asked. “Must be a dog outside, let’s go get the rest of the food.” Emma quickly diverted Ari’s attention. “As long as it’s outside, it sounded mean.” Ari stated as she walked with Emma back toward the kitchen. Lachlan grabbed himself a huge plate of his mates delicious food and sat down. He quickly dug into the with gusto, while he was away he missed Arianna’s simple but delicious cooking. Lachlan sat eating bacon, eggs, and muffins while thought about how to get out of this sticky situation. Having a mate who was human put him in a sticky situation. The mate bond would normally snap into place and Arianna would immediately feel what Lachlan felt. However, Arianna was human and while he didn’t want to change that, Lachlan in fact came to love that about her. Arianna made him see the pack differently, the omegas were so much happier in the short time she became his Luna. Lachlan still didn’t have a solution after eating his breakfast, so he decided he better go to work. . “Lachlan what are doing? Why are you following me around?” Arianna asked in a huff. His wolf whined again, it seemed that was all his wolf was doing today. Lachlan decided to wait until the afternoon to talk to his mate again, and it seemed that time didn’t do him any favors. “Why are you like this?” Lachlan asked pathetically. Arianna looked at him and then looked around. “Are you serious? You ghosted me, you made it clear it was a one night thing. Back off before I quit Mr. Anderson,” his mate told him before picking up her purse and walking out the door. Lachlan was floored. Ghosted? What the hell is that? He didn’t know but it seemed that he would have to find out because his mate seems to think he wasn’t interested. And Lachlan had no idea why.
