Chapter 3

She texted her ex and asked if he would be by that night. He responded that he would be “working late.” Ari couldn’t help but roll her eyes. That had been his excuse for the past few nights. She responded saying he needed to be here this weekend to see the kids or she would be pissed. He responded that he would be. While he claimed he was working late she was pretty sure he was seeing some one. That honestly didn’t bother her, the fact that he was blowing off the kids bothered her. That wasn’t like him either, and that made her more angry. Just then her phone pinged again. Lachlan: how’s your night? Me: long, urs? “Okay guys let’s get in our pajamas.” “Pajamas, pajamas.” Rory ran to her dresser to get her pajamas. Ari had to get Declan’s and the same for Lili. They were able to dress themselves, they just didn’t understand what pajamas meant. Lachlan: y is it long? Me: it’s always long when you have to get three kids to bed on your own. After getting the kids in their pj’s she gave them a tablet. Don’t judge me! All the kids got about an hour and a half of tablet time before bed. It’s what kept her sane, and for the most part kept the kids from fighting. Lachlan: that is rough, I thought it was rough with just one. Me: ya, it’s tablet time now I get to clean. Yay me! After a brief fight of who got what tablet. Ari started to clean up the mess from dinner. When she was done with that she started to get everything ready for school in the morning. Ari anticipated another tantrum from Declan. It will make everything easier to have everything ready beforehand. She finally got to sit down and relax about an hour later and she was able to check her messages. She had one from her ex Ollie and several from Lachlan. She checked those first. Lachlan: I wish I could help you. Lachlan: I’m trying to put my own down. Lachlan: u there? Me: ya sorry, just busy cleaning. About to put mine down too. Ollie: can I come over and read the kids a bedtime story? Me: of course Ollie: be there in ten minutes Ari rolled her eyes again, he was all over the place but she didn’t comment. He was coming for the kids and that was all that mattered. Now here comes the hard part, getting the kids tablets away from them. “Okay guys bed time,” Ari said and the response was instantaneous. “No bed time, no bedtime. Mommy’s room. Mommy’s room.” Declan threw an absolute b***h fitch when Ari took his tablet. She ignored him for the time being. “Guys pile up in my bed, daddy will be here in a minute to tell you a story.” “Daddy! Daddy!” Rory chanted while she went to go pick out a book. Lili quietly said, “daddy” and went to my bed and got under the covers. Declan was still throwing his tantrum, and Arianna was loosing her patience. “Declan please just stop!” She didn’t yell she just raised her voice. But she was ignored, she tried pulling him into a hug cause that would sometimes calm him. Declan was having none of that, it just made him scream louder. “Fine Declan since you don’t want to be comforted go to your room, and throw your tantrum in there.” Declan continued to cry and scream as Ari walked him to his room. God, she hoped her neighbors didn’t call the cops. Sometimes there was nothing to be done when Declan had a tantrum but ignore him and let him wear himself out, she hated it. But she had two other kids to look after. She went back to her room, where her daughter just sat there expectantly. “Hey my baby’s, give mommy a hug.” Ari leaned in and both her precious girls gave her a hug and a kiss. Just then she heard the door open. She looked and saw Ollie walk in. “Why this time?” He asked hearing Declan in the other room. Ari didn’t get to answer as the girls swarmed him screaming “daddy!” Oliver took his time picking up each one of his daughters and talking to them. “I took away his tablet.” Oliver nodded, “It was also the first day of school wasn’t it?” Ari nodded. Oliver put down Lili and walked out of the room, she managed to get the girls into the bed. Declan was already winding down, but when he saw his dad he was done with his tantrum. Declan embraced his father and was ready for the story. Oliver read the kids a bedtime story and helped Ari put the kids to bed. When the kids were asleep he asked how the kids did on their first day of school. When she was done answering he said “call if the kids need anything,” and left. Arianna sighed, “call if the kids need anything.” Not “call if you need anything.” Things really we’re changing, and as much as she knew it was for the best Arianna still hated it. It was hard to let Oliver go, he was Ari’s first love and the father of her kids. Arianna went to bed that night with a heavy heart. Well it’s been a week since they had moved in and they seemed to found a pattern. Declan’s tantrums had started to become less frequent. Ari also decided it was time to go looking for a job. She headed to the cafe since she still didn’t have wifi. She ordered a scone and a mocha macchiato. She sat down with her laptop and went on indeed looking for job postings. She had been a stay at home mom for the last six years almost, finding a decent job was going to be really hard. She was in the middle of an application when she heard her name being called. She looked up and saw it was her order. She went up and grabbed it. “Ari?” She turned around to see Lachlan coming in the door. “Hello Lachlan, how are you?” “I’m good.” He said with a killer smile. Ari always had a thing for men with nice smiles. “Your usual Lachlan?” Ari turned to see the lady from last time. She was a real piece of work so Ari decided to back away. She didn’t realize Lachlan followed her until he sat down opposite her in the booth. “So what are you up to?” Ari smiled, “I’m borrowing some Wi-Fi.” “They still haven’t came to your house yet?” “Apartment, and no.” She swore she could hear him growl, “I’m going to call them and give them a piece of my mind.” Ari laughed, “I already did, but it can’t be all bad right?” “How so?” He asked. “Otherwise I wouldn’t see you again.” Ari couldn’t believe she was flirting with him, she never flirted. Lachlan didn’t seem to mind, he let out a little chuckle. “Well what do you need wi-fi so bad for?” “I’m looking for a job.” “Come work for me.” He said with no hesitation. “I’m sorry what?”
