St. Zouis Episode 1 (Pt. 1)
[Scene opens on a street in the neighborhood of Eagle's Rock, on Lion's Ave. We see Stella, the skunk, arguing with Luna, the cat. They are standing on the sidewalk.]
Stella: I can't believe you didn't invite me, Luna! You know how we always go shopping at the mall together. Why were you so secretive about your trip?
Luna: My trip was personal, Stella, so I didn't share it because I didn't think it was any of your business.
[The scene continues as Stella rolls her eyes]
Stella: It's just so typical of you, Luna, to be so secretive and exclusive! I'm your best friend in the whole world, it's not fair that you don't tell me things!
Luna: Stella, sometimes you can be too nosy for your own good.
Stella: If you really cared about me, you would have invited me along. Now I know how little you think of me…
Luna: Stella, are you forever gonna act like a spoiled brat everytime something like this comes up?
Stella: [Rolling her eyes] Whatever, Luna. I thought we were supposed to be close friends?
[Stella crosses her arms and looks away from Luna in a huff. Luna exhales and looks up to the sky, closing her eyes].
Stella: Look, Luna, I've had just about enough of your nonsense. You're always prancing around and acting like a princess, when you're just a plain old house cat. It's time for you to wake up and see that you're no better or worse than the rest of us. So quit acting so high and mighty, because no one wants to deal with your attitude around here!
Luna: (shaking her head in disgust) Stella, I don't know what your problem is with me, but it's clear that you're just jealous of my popularity. Your behavior is totally uncalled for.
Stella: Jealous? Who in their right mind would be jealous of the likes of you, Luna? All you do is prance around in a dress and pretend you're special when, in reality, you're just a snobby, uptight cat. It's time for you to get over yourself and come down to our level!
Luna: (disgusted) Stella, you are the most rude and disrespectful animal I have ever come across. You have no heart, no soul, and don't even get me started on your bad hygiene! You truly are a disgrace to all animals!
Stella: I can't believe you would say those things about me, Luna. It's so hurtful.
Luna: I said what I said, Stella. And we gon keep it at that!
Stella: [Fuming with anger] How dare you! I'm going to make you pay for those words later on. Just you wait!
Luna: [Shrugs] Whatever you say, Stella. I'll be here, waiting.
Stella: [Grunting and walking away with a smug expression on her face] Don't even think about it, you hear me? I'm going to make your life a living hell from here on out?
Luna rolls her eyes
Stella: So you're just going to turn on me like that? After everything we've been through together?
Luna: (Smirks) Yes, I think it's best we go our separate ways. I'm done with you, Stella. Don't ever talk to me again!
Stella: (Eyes welling up) Luna, no, you can't do this. After all we've been through together? What happened to being best friends? What happened to the bond we shared? What-what happened to love?
Luna: (Frowning) I'm sorry, Stella, but I'm afraid we've grown apart. We used to be great friends, but now I see that you're not the girl I once knew. You've changed, and I can't be your friend any longer. Goodbye, Stella.
Stella: (Screams) Wait, Luna! Don't leave me! You can't just do that! You are my best friend!
Luna: I'm sorry, Stella. But all I can see in your eyes is betrayal. You used to be a kindhearted animal who brought such joy to everyone around you. But now, it seems that you've become consumed by hatred and jealousy for anyone who has what you want. So, I can't stay here and watch you destroy yourself. Not when you refuse to acknowledge your own faults. (Looks Stella directly in the eyes)
Not when you think that I can't see what you're doing.Please...get some help, before it's too late.
Stella: How could you do this to me, Luna? I thought we were friends!
Luna: Stella, I'm sorry, but I don't think we can be friends anymore. It's best if we just go our separate ways.
Stella: [Frowns] Well, goodbye, Luna. I won't forget this. I'll make sure everyone knows just what kind of animal you really are. And I swear, you'll live to regret it!
Luna: [Sighs] Oh, great, now she's got to go and be the victim. As if we didn't know that was coming.
Stella: [Sighs] Just wait until I get my revenge on you. I'll make sure you pay for this, Luna…
Luna: Sure! Whatever you say Stella!
Stella: But we were supposed to be allies! I thought we were on the same side!
Luna: I'm no longer your ally, Stella. I'm tired of watching you manipulate and destroy the animals around you. I've tried to help you, but you refuse to change your ways. From now on, I'm going to look out for myself and do whatever I need to do to protect my reputation. So, if that means turning against you, so be it. Now, leave me alone. I need space to think.
Stella: Well, I guess we're not on the same side anymore, Luna. You just made an enemy out of me.
Luna: Bring it on, Stella. I'm ready for anything you throw at me.
Stella: Oh, you think you're tough, Luna? Well, I'll show you just how tough I can be. Just wait and see, Luna. Just wait and see!
Luna: Oh, I'll be waiting! I can wait forever! (Sighs) Just face it Stella, you've always hated me! You've always been jealous of me! You want to be me!
Stella: (Screeching) Jealous of you!? Ha! You're joking, right!? I could never be like you! You're such a selfish, spoiled little brat! Everything always has to be about you! You can't stand it when things don't go your way! You're so pathetic!
Luna: And you're any better? At least I own up to my faults and don't lash out at others. I admit that I may be a spoiled brat. I'm used to getting everything I want. But I've never let it hurt those around me. I've never been cruel to anyone. And I never would.
Stella: How can you say that, Luna!? I'm not cruel. I'm just...different.
Luna: Different? You're different, all right. You're mean-spirited and manipulative. The way you've been bullying others lately is disgusting.
Stella: You really are a pathetic cat! Aren't you!?
Luna: Really, Stella? So I'm pathetic now! Girl bye! You've always tried to tear me down and make me feel bad. It's like you have a vendetta against me.
Stella: I don't have a vendetta against you, Luna. I'm just done with your manipulation and disrespect. You think you're so better than me just because you're the cutest, sweetest, most liked animal on Lions Ave. Well I'm the opposite, and I'm proud of it. I don't want everyone to love me. I want to be who I am, and if you can't handle that, it's your problem, not mine. So go ahead, hate me all you want, but it won't change who I am.
Luna: The only thing you want is to be the center of attention. You can't stand that I'm better than you in every way. You know what, Stella? You're a terrible friend. You only care about yourself. You're selfish, manipulative, and backstabbing. You need to get it together before you can even start thinking about being friends with me again. Until then, don't talk to me.
Stella: That's not true, Luna. You're just a narcissistic cat who can't handle the truth.
Luna: The truth? You're the one who's been manipulating the situation and playing the victim card.
Stella: I'm not playing the victim card, Luna! You're the one who's been manipulating everyone! You're the narcissist here, not me!
Luna: Stop trying to project your own issues on me, Stella. It's not me who's the narcissist. It's you.
Stella: Sure, Luna. Whatever you say. You're just jealous of me. You can't handle the fact that I'm cooler and more popular than you.
Luna: Stella, it's obvious to me that you're trying to put all the blame on me and act like you've done nothing wrong here, but that's not how it is.
Stella: Oh, so you're trying to play the innocent card now, Luna? That's cute. You've had a vendetta against me ever since you moved to this neighborhood, and you know it. But it's fine, Luna. I can handle a little bit of jealously.
Luna: Stella, stop acting like I'm jealous of you. I'm not.
With that, Luna walks off
[Scene ends as the argument continues and escalates.]
[Scene continues]
Luna: Stella, I'm sick of you trying to manipulate the situation to paint yourself as the victim here. You don't see it, but you're the narcissistic one here. Not me.
Stella: Well I'm sick of you always acting like you're always right, Luna. You think everything is about you, and everyone else is wrong. Even if you have to be a bully to get your way, you'll do it. You think you're so perfect, and the truth is...you're not!
Stella: Luna! Come back! We're not done yet!
Luna turns around and glares at Stella
Luna: No, Stella. I don't think we have anything else to say to each other. You and I were never destined to be friends again, especially when we've reached this point. You and I have officially become enemies now. And I don't care if you think I'm in the wrong here, I'm done wasting my time on you!
Stella: Luna, please! Just wait one second!
Luna: Whatever, Stella! I'm so done with this!
Stella: Luna, please! I need to talk to you about something important!
Luna: Ugh, fine. I'll listen to what you have to say, but make it quick. I've got better things to do with my time.
Stella: Thank you. Ok, look, Luna. I just wanted to say that I'm truly sorry for the argument. It's true that I've been acting a little...difficult, lately. I hope you can forgive me, Luna.
Luna: Stella, I'm not so sure about that. I mean, you've been very disrespectful and mean to me over the past few months.
Stella: Luna, please listen to me! We're supposed to be friends, and friends talk to each other, even when things are hard! You can't just keep running away from me like this! Luna, please. Think about our friendship!
Luna: I did! It's over Stella!
Stella: No, Luna! We can't do this to each other! We're supposed to be best friends! You can't just throw our whole friendship away because you're angry at me!
Luna: I don't care, Stella! I just can't take it anymore! Our friendship isn't working!
Stella: Luna, please! We used to mean so much to each other, Luna. Think about all the things we've been through together, and all the memories we have!
Luna: I don't care about the memories! You've been such a horrible, manipulative friend recently, and I don't want that in my life anymore. I'm done putting up with your selfish, narcissistic ways, Stella. It's time for me to move on.
Stella: Luna, that's not fair! I'm not doing this on purpose, Luna. Please don't leave me! Please!
Luna ignores Stella and goes inside her house
Luna: [Smirks] Whatever, Stella. I'm not just leaving you. I'm moving on, completely. And you don't have to live with it, because there will be no more living together. No more Stella and Luna friendship. It ends now!
Stella: [Tears well up in her eyes] Luna, what are you saying? Please! You can't just walk away from me.
Luna: I can...and I do. So goodbye, Stella! I hope you have a wonderful life! And thank you for showing me exactly who you really are.
Stella: Luna, no! I'm not going to let you leave like this! We're supposed to be best friends! And friends don't just throw away their friendships when they're angry!
Luna: Just let it go, Stella! We're not friends anymore!
Stella: Luna! I can't just let us end like this! I don't want us to be enemies!
Luna: Well, I do! I'm not going to let you hurt me anymore, Stella. I'm done with being your friend! (Slams the door shut, leaving Stella alone in the street.)
Stella: (Scoffs) Luna...she's always been so stubborn.
She just doesn't understand how important our friendship is to me.
I can't imagine my life without her.
But what else can I do at this point? I just hope one day she'll come to her senses and realize she needs me as her best friend.
[Scene ends as Stella walks away, dejected.]
(New Scene)
In the scene, we find Toby the raccoon huddled behind a dumpster, high on heroin and mumbling to himself in his own world. He has stolen some food scraps from the restaurant's dumpster nearby and is munching on them, his eyes half-closed. As he continues to mumble incoherently, he catches sight of Scrappy the squirrel and Stella the skunk walking down the street towards him. Stella looks angry and still bitter about the fight she just had with Luna, and she's glaring at Toby as they approach him.
Scrappy: Hey Toby, what's goin' on bro? You alright? You seem totally out of it, my man.
Toby the Raccoon: *mumbles to himself as he continues to eat the stolen food scraps. He seems very disoriented and high on heroin, but there is an air of melancholy to his demeanor. As he catches sight of Scrappy the Squirrel and Stella the skunk walking toward him, their presence seems unexpected, and he is momentarily confused.
Stella: What the hell do you expect out of a drug addict!?
Toby: [Smiles widely, revealing yellow-stained teeth] Oh, hey, Scrappy! Hey, Stella! I'm doing just fine, Scrappy. Just fine indeed. [Takes another bite of the food] Mmm...I didn't know food could taste so good.
Stella: Toby, you're out of your mind, and you look like you're on something. Give me that garbage right now.
Toby: (Grabs his food scraps) No way, Stella! This is my stuff, and I'm not giving it to you. You need to back off.
(Stella snatches the food scraps from him)
Stella: How dare you speak to me that way, you drug-addicted bum! This is my food, so you get your grubby little fingers off of it!
Toby: Wha-what the hell are you talking about, Stella? (He looks hurt and startled) You just took my food from me! I earned this food, damn it! Give it back! (He tries to take the food back from Stella.)
Stella: Not a chance!
Toby: Hey! Give that back! That was mine!!
Stella: Sorry Toby, but I'm not letting you eat that garbage.
Toby: Hey! That's mine! I'm an animal too! I have the right to eat what I want!
Stella: Are you kidding? Not if you're going to eat garbage like this! I'm not letting you slowly kill yourself with this unhealthy crap.
Toby: (Frustrated) Hey! Who the hell says it's unhealthy!? It's good for me, dammit! Why do you keep bugging me about what I eat?
Stella: Because I care about you, you i***t! Is it so hard to understand that?
Toby: Stop lying! Give me my food Stella!
Stella: It's not even healthy for you! Just look at your state! You're high out of your mind! What if you do something crazy, you big raccoon?
Toby: No, I'm just having a good time, enjoying my life just like you do, Stella. And I'm not doing anything crazy! I'm just eating my food.
Stella: [Scoffs] Your food? Toby, you're not even paying for these food scraps. You're stealing them from the trash. So technically, these food scraps aren't even your own. Stop being so entitled.
Toby: So what, Stella? It's not like anyone cares where I get these scraps of food from. Not even the restaurant owners mind. Hell, they're just gonna throw them out anyway. So is it so bad that I'm taking food that would otherwise get wasted? You're so damn annoying.
Stella: Just because something would be wasted doesn't make it okay to steal it. And yeah, maybe the restaurant owners don't care, sure. But it doesn't make it right!
Toby: Whatever man, I don't care about what you say. It's my food, and I'll do what I want with it!
(He tries to snatch it back from Stella, but she holds him out at arm's length)
Stella: Not so fast, little guy. You're not in any shape to be taking food that I could be enjoying instead.
(She chows down on the scraps)
Toby: (Turns to Scrappy) Hey Scrappy, come on, you gotta help me here.
Scrappy: Look mate, I gotta stay out of this one. I mean, she's right; you're not in the best condition right now. So I think it's best you just let her have it.
Toby: No, I can't do that. That's not even the point! It's the principle of the thing; I've got my rights, too. Just like any other animal does. So, you better help me out here, Scrappy, cause I need someone in my corner right now.
Scrappy: Sorry Toby. I'm with Stella on this one. She makes a good point. You really shouldn't be eating crap like that. It's not good for you.
Toby: (Frustrated) I don't care what you guys say! I want my food back now! Give it to me! (He tries to snatch his food back from Stella, but she holds it away, eating it as fast as she can.)
Toby: [Turns to Scrappy] Scrappy, bro. You gotta do something for me. Help me out here. I can't just let this lady steal my food. It's the only thing I have left in this world.
Scrappy: [Rubs his paws slowly up and down] Look, Toby. I'm sorry man, but Stella's right. This isn't healthy food. And she's not stealing it either. She's just trying to look out for you.
Toby: (groaning in protest) I need that food!!
Stella: See? Even Scrappy agrees with me. That food you're eating is unhealthy trash, and it's hurting you more than it's helping. I'm just trying to keep you healthy and alive.
Scrappy: I know it's hard for you to see it, Toby, but Stella is just trying to be a good friend.
Toby: I don't care! It's my life, and I do what I want with it. If I want to eat this damned trash, then I will eat it. Who are you guys to tell me what's good for me or not?
Stella: Awe! Too bad! It's mine now!
Toby: What's your problem Stella!?
Stella: Ugh, Luna the cat! I can't stand her! She thinks she's so much better than everyone! I'll show her!
Scrappy: Stella, calm down! Don't go all revengeful on Luna. That's just not right.
Stella: Why not? I can do whatever I want! Luna has screwed me over one too many times! I'm sick of her!
Scrappy: Ok, ok...I get it. You're angry at Luna...but, that doesn't mean you need to go around being mean to all the other animals to show it. I mean, look at Toby for example. He didn't do anything wrong, yet you took his food away from him like a bully.
Stella: (Irritated) Who cares about that drug-addicted raccoon? I'm not being mean to him; I'm just taking care of him.
Scrappy: Okay, that's enough! You're not taking care of him; you're insulting him.
Stella: (Annoyed) And your point is...?
Scrappy: My point is that you're being a bully, and you should stop.
Stella: (Yelling) I'm not being a bully, I'm just trying to make sure the raccoon's taking care of himself!
Scrappy: Since when do you look out for anybody besides Stella?
Stella: Shut up Scrappy! You don't know anything! Luna is a fake backstabbing b***h! I want my revenge!
Toby: Don't worry, Stella. You've got Toby and Scrappy on your side. We'll make sure Luna gets what she deserves.
Scrappy: I don't know about that!
Stella: Quiet, Scrappy! You don't understand. Luna and I used to be friends! We did everything together. Every single day! But one day, she just abandoned me!
Toby: (groaning incoherently)
Stella: I thought we would always be there for each other and would always be best friends for life. But then...she just left me behind and made new friends who she thought was cooler than me.
Stella: I can't believe she did this to me. She just threw me away like I was nothing to her!
Toby: (Still mumbling and moaning incoherently)
Scrappy: (Feeling sorry for Stella) Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that Stella, that really sucks. I don't like hearing that you two used to be so close, and now she just left you behind.
Stella: It was so traumatic to watch her move on without me. I can't stop myself from wanting revenge, Scrappy.
Toby: (Is totally spaced out but is somehow managing to half-listen to the conversation. He groans in protest again as Stella takes his last food scrap.)
Stella: We had been friends since we were kids! And now Luna just throws our whole friendship away!? Just because she's mad at me about something else? It's not fair! I was always there for her. Always! But now I finally see her true colors. She doesn't care about me at all! She never did. Luna only cares about herself. She's a selfish, backstabbing cat, and she doesn't care about anyone but herself. I don't know why I ever thought we could be best friends. I don't know why I ever wanted to be friends with her at all.
Toby: Dude, is that Stella's problem? She's just upset that Luna doesn't want to be friends with her? Jeez, she doesn't let anything go, does she?
Scrappy: I don't know what we can do, Stella. I don't know how we can get back at Luna. She's too powerful.
Stella: That's not true, Scrappy. Don't let Luna get the best of you. We can turn this around! We just need to come up with a plan.
Toby: I got it! What if we kidnap Luna?
Stella: (Shocks) What?! Did you just say we should kidnap Luna? Toby, that's a terrible idea! That's going too far!
Scrappy: I agree with Stella. You can't go around kidnapping someone just because you're upset with them. That's just not right.
Toby: But it would solve our problem! We could teach her a lesson! She'd learn her place when we're done with her.
Stella: That's just too much, Toby.
Scrappy: Luna is too smart for that!
Toby: (Still insisting) But what if I were to set a trap for her? Then she wouldn't be able to resist it, right?
Stella: No, I don't think kidnapping is gonna work. Luna would see it coming from a mile away!
Toby: What are you saying, Stella? That's the best plan we could come up with!
Stella: I know, I'm not saying you're bad ideas, I'm just saying that Luna would never fall for that. We have to come up with something better. Something she won't see coming.
Toby: Well, what about poisoning her?
Stella: No! She would smell the poison on the food. So that's not gonna work either.
Scrappy: You guys are crazy! I feel like I'm hanging out with insane animals right now! Luna is just too powerful!
Stella: So you don't have any other bright ideas, huh Scrappy? Well, let me ask you this: when did you suddenly become such a wuss? And what makes you think we're insane?
Toby: (Nods in agreement next to Stella)
Scrappy: Even the police are afraid of her!
*They all remain quiet for a few seconds, before Scrappy gives a nervous chuckle*
Scrappy: Yeah, I guess I was being a little bit naive when I was thinking about making a plan against Luna. The truth is, we don't stand a chance against her. I mean, not just the cops are scared of her, even the entire country is scared to death of her. I've heard a lot of stories about how vicious she can be, but I never believed them. Apparently she's even more terrifying than I thought.
Stella: Even I have to agree with Scrappy! That b***h was able to escape the Pound!
Toby: You're right, maybe that's not the best idea. (Pause) I've got an idea. What if we steal Luna's catnip and hide it somewhere she'll never find it. That'll teach her a lesson!
Scrappy: That's not a good idea Toby! When she finds out, she'll kill everyone involved!
Stella: You're such a wimp Scrappy! Take the nuts out ya mouth and grow some balls! That Luna is gonna get what's coming to her! I'll make sure of that! She treats me like s**t! She's such a piece of s**t!
*Toby stares at Stella, wide eyed and slightly horrified by her outburst*
Toby: (in a trembling voice) S- so you really hate her that much, huh? You really think she deserves a lesson that severe for not being friends with you anymore?
Stella: Oh! Believe me, this is more than just friendship! It's about trust, it's about loyalty! The betrayal! The dishonor! Don't you get it!? Luna has betrayed me!
Scrappy: Stella, you can't just attack Luna like that! You'll get yourself and everyone else into trouble. If it's any consolation, I'm sure she'll get what's coming to her eventually, so just wait it out.
Toby: Scrappy, shut the hell up! Stella's got a point, I don't understand why Luna would do something like that. It hurts, you know?
Stella: Thank you! Finally, someone who gets it! I just don't get why Luna would throw away our friendship like that. It's as if she doesn't even care about me or all the things I've done for her.
Scrappy: What do you mean? What has Luna done for you? She's the one who's always taking care of you. She always takes care of everyone, and she never gets anything in return. She's always taken care of herself all this time, and she doesn't deserve anything bad to happen to her just for that. Why do you think she would throw away your friendship like that? What has Luna done to you that you think qualifies your revenge?
Stella: I'm the one who does everything for this friendship, Scrappy! All she does is use me as a tool to get what she wants! She only hangs out with me because I benefit her in some way. What exactly has she done for me? She just pretends that she likes me, but she really just wants something to do her own selfish needs! I bet she doesn't even care about my feelings at all!
Scrappy: Really Stella? We can name a thousand things that Luna has done for you! Let it go Stella!
Toby: (to Scrappy, angrily) You shut your damn mouth! Stella needs everyone's help right now! So don't ever tell her to "let it go" again!
Stella: Thank you Toby! Now, any ideas on how we can get that Stupid Luna?
*The three of them stand around, racking their brains for ideas to give Stella her revenge over Luna. Scrappy is thinking of ways to help, but he is still scared for his own safety. Toby is determined to help in any way possible, and Stella is just filled with anger and hatred.*
Toby: (thinking to himself) Hmm...
Scrappy: (shaking his head, skeptical) No way, Toby. I have no clue how to deal with Luna, and you know why!
Toby: Don't you have any faith in us, Scrappy? You're such a downer! We're gonna get back at that stupid cat, and you'll see!
Scrappy: We don't even have a plan, Toby! How can we be sure this is gonna work?
Stella: We'll figure it out! Duh! Even if it takes me all night! Somehow, I will get that stupid Luna and I won't stop until she's miserable!
