NICK LEFT ADAM TO TAKE care of restraining the men on the first floor, and he went to take a flashlight from a drawer. The man doubted that Darcy and Kate had the time to bring a lamp with them. Then he opened the panel to the secret passage.
Nick descended the stairs with quick footsteps. His jaw clenched harder at the sight of blood smeared on the wall, and the blood drops on the steps.
He reached the fork in the corridor and chose to follow the path to the shelter. Darcy didn’t know what she could find if she went the other way, and he didn’t see her risking getting lost or caught, mainly because either she or Kate was hurt.
