Chapter 1 Reborn to the Moment of First Encounter
Nora's POV
"Hello, Miss Gray. I am Anthony Montrose, your fiancé."
I watched the man walking toward me with steady steps, his strong alpha vibe, mixed with the scent of cologne, invading my senses.
He was thirty years old, with light brown hair and a sharply defined nose. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit that accentuated his physique.
He was my partner in my last life—the one who had caused me endless suffering.
My hand instinctively moved to my chest, where the pain from a previous wound still seemed to linger, a dull ache that constantly reminded me this was no dream.
Because in my last life, I was sentenced to death for adultery—and now, I had been reborn!
I tried to calm the turmoil in my heart, forcing myself to respond as calmly as I could: "Hello, Mr. Montrose. I am Nora."
"Miss Gray, as rumored, you are indeed beautiful and full of grace. Please, just call me Anthony." The man smiled gently, his deep-set eyes gleaming silver-gray, shimmering like stars.
I took in the bright hall, the vintage decor, and the servants standing around—it all mirrored my last life.
Anthony led me to sit on a lavish, exquisite sofa in the center.
After I sat down, a graceful and attractive maid with a light step approached, holding a tray and expertly pouring me a steaming cup of tea. Her assessing glance swept over me, almost inadvertently.
In my last life, after my adoptive father's death, I was struggling with tuition fees as a freshman when suddenly Montrose's butler, Tony, took me to this unfamiliar place, where I felt like an ugly duckling.
Anthony elegantly settled down on the black leather sofa opposite me. "I believe the butler has already explained everything to you before your arrival."
At that time, I knew nothing about the world of werewolves and naively trusted this gentlemanly guy, believing everything he said. "Yes, Lord Anthony."
Anthony continued, "Montrose, Blackwood, Gray, and Winforth were once highly prestigious werewolf families, with Montrose and Gray being the strongest. However, your family, the Grays, grew increasingly discreet and secluded over the years, almost fading into obscurity... It took us quite some time to find you."
I pretended to think for a moment before lifting my head. "You mentioned an marital alliance between the Grays and the Montroses, but... Mr. Anthony, there's a clear disparity between our age and status. You could easily annul our engagement."
I looked at my faded denim jeans and the slightly worn canvas shoes on my feet.
Even when I first entered the mansion, I could sense the barely concealed contempt in the eyes of the maids, despite their restrained appearance.
Anthony leaned slightly forward, dismissing my words. "No, no, no! You're such a kind person—you volunteer in the community and hospitals all the time. When your adoptive father was sick, you worked part-time and kept such a positive attitude. I truly believe your golden heart is the most valuable thing. Who cares about material stuff?"
I listened to his soft voice, tinged with unmasked respect and admiration, and nodded slightly, a blush blooming on my cheeks.
No one would have guessed that one year later, this handsome man would say to me with the same gentle tone, but laced with mockery: "Nora, I married you for your talent and the Gray family's mysterious treasure, but now you're of no use to me!"
It wasn't until I cried all my tears dry and accidentally discovered Anthony in bed with his mistress, Lilian, that I realized in despair: this marriage had been a conspiracy from the very beginning.
At that time, I helplessly and incredulously stared at my husband, covered in love bites. "Anthony, you plotted against me from the start. Did you ever love me?"
He didn't care at all, kissing his mistress in front of me, then sneered, "I never loved you. Now, just stay here quietly. You're of no use anymore!"
Later, when his mistress falsely accused me of betraying the family, Anthony didn't hesitate for a second to believe her lies. He didn't give me a chance to defend myself and coldly left me in the trial room.
In a place where no one could see, I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my skin, silently vowing:
"This time, I will expose the true faces of Anthony and that b***h!"
