XII: Not All-Powerful

1239 Words
In another place in the forest, Edith’s house appeared. She fell to her knees from exhaustion, and Joshua, approaching her, took her in his arms. She could no longer maintain her facade and crying. She clung to the man that man who was comforting her. At that moment, with fear and despair, she said, “I am sorry! I am sorry! Please forgive me!” Joshua didn’t understand what was happening but covering her with her hands. He hugged her tightly as she cried. The werewolf did not understand what was happening, but he knew that she needed him and lovingly caressed her while the witch calming her breath, said, “Sorry for keeping you in the dark!” And with those words, she explains everything that happened. Both now inside the house that was in another place in the forest, talk calmly, and Joshua, who was surprised by the news, said, “Then there is a creature who is hunting the servants of death!” Edith nodded while she looked at him. “And it is also telling everyone that you are no longer immortal ... that you are vulnerable!” Edith nodded again when Joshua, with a calm smile, looked at her and said, “Them, you guys are in serious trouble! Now the creatures who want to get rid of you just have to scare you or cause your hatred!” “Or love!” Edith added while looking at him bitterly. She did not want to accept that being near him caused that feeling, and her insecurity addressed her. What if now that Joshua knew that he could kill her, he took advantage of the situation? She looked at him doubtfully. Edith was really worried. She dreaded the possibility for him to leave her because of what she did. “Well! We have big problems,” He said with a smile before releasing a heavy sigh. She looked at him curiously and then waited for him to continue, “If all those creatures come for you, we won’t be able to defeat them all...” After saying that, he paused meaningfully before he looked around her, “Well, maybe you can.” She smiled before shaking her head. Edith replied softly, “I’m not all-powerful, Joshua….” But he smiling said, “You just transported a huge house from one place to another... you can do anything!” She smiled and looked around her. She was making a superhuman effort to stay awake. She also didn’t know if trusting all her secrets in Joshua now that she was vulnerable was a good idea. “Will you betray me?” Edith carefully asked while looking at him anxiously. He looked at her with a smile, and with some sarcasm, he replied, “Of course! I saved you from the vampire, and I was also going to fight with my whole pack for you! Just to betray you later… because that way, I will win who knows what.” She smiled and, walking towards him, put her forehead on the huge man’s chest. He stroked her head dotingly before he asked, “How could someone kill a servant of death?” She opened her eyes wide in surprise. That question was really heavy for her to answer. Edith released a heavy sigh before she replied sadly, “It made us vulnerable. I don’t know what kind of creature it is, but it can erase our existence. It is not even death!” Joshua didn’t understand what Edith was saying. “And why would death make you even more vulnerable! It’s not the best move to protect you,” She continued.   “It’s because you think it’s protecting us!” At that moment, Edith looked Joshua in the eye and resignedly said, “Vulnerability gives us more power. That’s why I can use so many spells now and stay awake. But that has another reason.” Joshua nodded and said, “With more power, you can fight that creature?” “In part, yes!” Edith said, sighing, and then added, “But if another creature kills us our energy, our power goes towards death! We are her servants, after all. It is different if they eliminate our existence! “ At that moment, Joshua understood. “Death made you mortal to prevent you from being eliminated from existence. If you die, it has its power back, but if you disappear….” “It is left vulnerable! It is not protecting us. It protects itself!” At that moment, Joshua looked at her, and true fear ran down the Alpha’s back. When he saw her, he asked, “And what are we going to do!?” Edith took a deep breath and, walking calmly. She looked into Joshua’s eyes to say, “In order to survive, we have to find who is causing all this and eliminate it!” She paused for a moment before she added, “But now we are much more vulnerable.” Joshua nodded and, sensing the scent of the pack, said hurriedly, “They found us!” Now two wolves were approaching the house at full speed. Joshua could feel two wolves speeding toward the house. Looking at Edith with a hint of concern, he said, “There are only two! But if they already found us, it is a matter of time for the rest to reach this place!” Edith nodded and, biting her thumb. She said frantically, “We will have to escape!” While saying that, she looked at Joshua and asked hurriedly, “Can you keep them busy for a few minutes?” “There are only two! That won’t be a problem!” Joshua said with a smile. With a smirk that surprised Edith Joshua, left the cabin. As night began to fall in the forest, one of the wolves looked at the cabin in the distance. He could clearly feel the essence of Edith but tried to guess if Joshua was still inside that place. Alphas had several advantages that ordinary werewolves did not have. One of them was that their essence was completely disguised when they were in their human form, and this made it impossible for a lower race werewolf to track them down. As he watched with precision towards the cabin, something moved behind him. That man tried to turn to see what he was, but two powerful arms wrapped around his neck and began to squeeze him in that instant. The werewolf shook his hands with force, but the force of his attacker exceeded that of himself. Transforming into a giant wolf, he tried to release the grip. Still, it was impossible. At that precise moment, he realized that he was being attacked by Joshua. In his mind, even though his body was still struggling, his intention stopped. Joshua left his body on the ground, strangling him like that had put him to sleep, and now he had to take care of the other attacker. The night drew farther and farther, and the darkness would have been a problem for them if the night’s cloak weren’t the place where werewolves achieved their best attributes.
