TREVOR'S POV
Like being struck by lightning, I held my chest.
My father?
Poison? How was that even possible? It was as though my world came crashing down right in my face. I couldn't fathom when things started going so wrong around me.
Without wasting further time, I closed for the day and rushed straight to the garage with Mark behind me. He got into the driver's seat and started the car while I sat in the back. He then drove into the City Road as we headed for Billions Mansion.
As we passed various lights and roundabouts, I joined both palms together, feeling my sweat with my eyes closed. Nothing must happen to my father. Nothing! I felt my heart pounding, and I was already looking like a rejected child.
Soon, we got to the giant gate that had BILLIONS boldly written on it. Mark blew the horn, and security had the gate opened. He drove in, and the moment he turned off the engine, I dropped from the car and rushed towards the entrance of the main building.
"Welcome, Young master!" the major nanny, Madam Cross, greeted.
"Where is my father?" I asked her in a tense tone.
"He is in his room," she replied without beating around the bush.
I didn't even wait for her to finish before I rushed up the inner stairs and headed for the master bedroom. I got to the door and pushed it open, and that was when I slowed down.
I didn't know how to walk harder anymore, and I couldn't say a thing. My father, the strongest man I know, was already lying on the bed looking weak. This was my first time seeing him that way. Either way, I had to go in, so I closed the door not entirely and went closer to him. "Trevor, that's you! I feel your presence," he muttered on the bed.
I didn't know how to feel anymore, but I knew that I had to be strong. That was how he had trained me to be, so I would not fail him. "It's me, Father. How do you feel?"
He stretched out his hand like trying to reach me. I noticed and went closer to him, sitting down on a stool that was close to his bed. "I feel better now that you are here. Trev...vor!"
My father's voice was shaking, and it broke my heart. "Father! I will do everything to ensure that you get better. Even if it means taking you out of this country. You will feel fine, Father, I promise."
He then coughed hard, and I placed my hand on his chest, hoping it would make him feel better. "How long is your name, Trevor?" he asked, and I became curious.
"Just six letters, Dad," I replied, thinking he wanted to have a chat.
"Great! Look at that wall with a board. Go there, remove the board, and press *666666*," he instructed me.
"Father, I'm more worried about your health," I replied, holding him.
"Inside the safe is everything you need to have a good life when I'm not there. Protect my legacy and pass it on to your children, to pass it on to their own children. I am proud of you, my son Trevor!" he kept talking to me.
"Father, please! It's not the end of the world for you. You are still here. I am not ready to let you retire, either, Dad. You will keep ruling until you really don't want to anymore." I said to him and helped him relax better. I saw some water on the table and then gave it to him. "Here, Father, have a sip," I said, feeding him.
Mark soon got in with a bowl of warm water and with towel. "I am here to clean his legs," he said, and I let him do it.
"I feel better!" My father said that after that, I felt better.
"Get me the nanny," I instructed Mark, and he went out. Soon, Madam Cross walked in looking sad. "Why are you all in this building acting useless, and why are there no nurses here?" I questioned.
"I'm sorry, young master. After he was brought back from the hospital, Master requested that we send all the nurses back to the hospital and that he'd rather be alone," she explained.
"I will be sending nurses. Father, please don't reject them. If there is anything, I will be sure to make an appearance. Until then, I have got things to find out." I said, and then got up to leave, but my father suddenly grabbed my hand.
I sat down again to listen to him. "Son, I love you. Live well, okay!" he said to me. It was great and quite emotional to hear that from him, but I wasn't willing to accept it yet, as it gave me a bad feeling.
"Father, stop, you are getting me scared. You are out of the hospital, you are recuperating, and you will be totally fine." I replied to him.
"Fine, but when are you going to get married? I have been waiting my whole life for your wedding day," he said to me, and a tear slipped out of my eyes.
"In that case, Father, I am about to go get her. I have seen her father. And she isn't far away. Do not sleep, I will go get her now." I promised him and got up. I looked and Mark and he nodded his head and followed me.
I headed out of the room with Mark and Madam Cross, followed behind for questioning. "What really happened?" I questioned the moment we got into the sitting room.
"Young master, he had a meeting with his brothers and was rushed to the hospital from there where the doctor then confirmed that he was poisoned. That is all I know," her aged voice sounded.
My blood boiled... but Mark tapped my shoulders, calming me down. "And Assistant Ray? Where was he when all these happened, and where the hell is he right now?" I growled.
"Assistant Ray is nowhere to be seen since this incident happened. I have been trying to get to him but failed," she explained.
"urghhhhhh!!! That incompetent fool!" I cursed, slamming my fist on the nearby wall.
"Father will get well soon. Don't forget you want to go pick up his daughter-in-law. We will definitely handle this after he is up and stronger." Mark said, bringing my senses back.
"Right! Let's go get her. Madam Cross, I already messaged the hospital, and the nurses should be here any minute." I told her and then pointed at some guards around. "You all should go stay with my Father. No family member should get in without my permission." I instructed and then got to work. The nurses arrived as I spoke and went to be with my father with the help of Madam Cross.
"Let's go!" I then walked out, and Mark followed.
A few minutes after we drove out of the mansion, I took out my phone and dialed Ellen's number, but she didn't pick up. I tried again, and then my other phone rang. I picked that one up and placed it on speak out without looking. Suddenly, I heard Madam Cross's crying voice, "Young master, your father just stopped breathing..."
