Meanwhile, at the McCray ranch, Manny looked up from his work in his office to find Jimmy and Steve standing in his doorway.
“Come in,” said Manny. “Have a seat. We’ll have a talk as soon as your dads get here.”
The boys looked toward the door as first Jimmy’s dad and then Steve’s dad came in. They stood back and waited to see what Manny wanted with them. He had not told them anything except to come to the office.
Manny stared hard at the boys. “What did I tell you about bullying other children?” he asked.
“You told us not to do it,” said Steve.
“What did I tell you would happen if I found out you were doing it again?” asked Manny.
“You told us you would take care of us,” said Jimmy.
“Were you under the impression I meant something good?” asked Manny.
“No, Sir,” answered both boys.
