CHAPTER 9 Cathy was already in the kitchen the next morning, when Mona entered the room. Glen and Poppie were digging into large plates of pancakes. Manny was seated at the table enjoying his own stack of pancakes. Cathy glanced at Mona when she entered the room. “Good morning. Have a seat,” she said. She set a plate of pancakes in front of Mona. Mona looked at the stack of pancakes and groaned. “I will never be able to eat all of these,” said Mona. She took a deep breath. “They smell so good.” Mona picked up her fork and dug in. Cathy smiled as she poured Mona a cup of coffee and set it down by her plate. Mona smiled and thanked her. Poppie and Glen finished eating and went to wash their hands and collect their school bags.
