“Dinner is nearly over if you would like room service and breakfast is at 6am. That will be $145 please.” I pull out the money and hand it to her, I find my room and go inside, and I put my bag on my bed and pick up the menu and dial room service. “Yes, can I help you?” “Yes I would like the hillside burger with the works, a large bowl of chips and 2 banana shakes to room 14 please.” “It will be there in 20 minutes.” I just sit down and wait while trying to think of my next plan, I don’t even know where I’m going. Is there any place I’m going to be safe? A knock on the door pulls me back to reality, I open it to a girl who looks so completely bored. “You ordered?” “Yes.” I hand her $100 then close the door behind me, I sit down and eat as I rearrange my bags so the money is hidden when I open it. As I finish eating I feel my skin start to burn and pain building in my teeth, I run into the bathroom I look in the mirror as white hair lines start spreading across my face, I open my mouth to see two large fangs. The pain is beyond anything I have ever felt before, I grip the sink to steady myself but that’s when I notice my hands are covered in fur. I let out a loud howl as my body transforms. I’m still me but I’m not me, I look at myself at I’m scared at what is looking back at me. I think of my parents, my mums smile and her voice when she is singing, slowly my heart rate comes down and I start to change back. I’m shaking all over so I lay down and fall asleep, I wake up in the morning to sunlight coming thru the curtains I look over to the clock 5:50am. I put my wig back on and pack up my room then go back to my bike, I ride all day until I finally stop at a cheap motel on the outskirts of San Francisco. I walk into the bar next door I sit down at the bar and order 3 shots, the guy doesn’t ask for id as he slides the shots in front of me. I slam back the first two and as I’m picking up the third someone sits next to me. “What kinds of troubles can such a young girl have?” I look over at a disfigured older man in a black leather jacket. “Some that concerns no one else.” I slam back the third one and order 3 more. “Well at least you have a spine; most wouldn’t walk into a random bar with no protection.” He snickers at me; I slam back another shot then turn back to him. “I didn’t say I had no protection.” My eyes change and that’s when I see that he is like me, I grab his arm tightly. “What are you?” I say quietly. “What are you?” he replies, I don’t answer at first. “I don’t know, I thought I was alone in this curse.” “Curse? It’s a gift; didn’t your parents explain this to you?” I shake my head sadly. “I don’t think they knew.” “Wait you’re the girl from the news?” I go to get up but he grabs my arm and stops me. “I’m not going to tell, but you might want to go to Lupines Ridge. It’s a small town 1400 miles northeast of here, it’s a safe haven.” “Will you come with me?” I ask hopefully but he shakes his head. “I am not very liked there, and it would be best if you didn’t mention me either.”
