I order a salad roll and a drink to go, I walk up to the notice board while I’m waiting and notice an ad for a used motorbike. I take the number down and call from the payphone in the diner. “Hi I’m calling about your motorbike, is it still available?” “Yes it is, do you have a valid licence?” “Yes I am at the north side diner, is there any chance you could bring it here? I have cash.” “I will be there in 5 minutes.” As I hung up the lady calls out my order, I walk up to her and hand her the money then walk out the front and wait for the bike. 5 minutes later a man in a red ute pulls up with a black bike in the back. “Are you the girl that called me?” He asks looking at me, I nod at him. “Its $5000 and I will throw in the helmet as well.” I pull out $10,000 in clean crisp $100 bills and hand it to him. “Thank you for your time, if anyone asks please don’t tell them about me. I am running from a very crazy boyfriend.” “Where are your parents?” Tears spring into my eyes. “They are dead.” I say quietly, he puts a hand on my shoulder. “I’m very sorry; my name is Karl Williams in case you’re pulled over.” He writes down his number and hands it to me. “Thank you; you don’t know how much this means to me.” I put the helmet on and kick start the bike, I wave goodbye and take off. I ride until its pitch black; I finally stop at a service station to fill up. “Is there any place around here to crash for the night?” I ask a young guy who is too busy watching the tv to turn and look at me. “Yeah 15 miles down the road, hillside inn.” I look up and see a news report on my parents. “A brutal double murder has rocked the community of Odessa, no one is sure if 17 year old Eve Evans is involved at all or another victim of this brutal attack but police are looking for her.” I turn around and start to cry, I look around and see an aisle of makeup, wigs and hair dyes. I grab a black wig, a tone of makeup and large black sunglasses. I take it all up to the corner and try to get the guys attention. “Yeah $50 please.” He doesn’t even see the items only the fuel so I leave the money and put everything else in my bag and quickly leave. As the inn comes into view, I stop and pull the wig on then I park my bike in the nearby bushes and walk into the building. I ring the bell and a little old lady in big white wire framed glasses comes out. “Hello can I help you?” She squeaks at me. “Hello ma’am I am hoping that I can rent one of your beautiful rooms for the night. I am trying to get to Tucson for work tomorrow but I am just too tired to carry on tonight.” I say softly, she turns around and pulls a set of keys off the wall and slide them over the desk to me.
