Jake

"Jake is perilous" Sarah said to me while taking a big bite of her hamburger. "How perilous?." I asked "Very. He is not someone you want to hang around Aubrey. He is dangerous." "Have you ever met him personally?" "Yes. That was when my elder brother introduced us." she said. "Introduced you?" "He was my brother's classmate in high school. So, my brother introduced us, in my first year." she informed me "Oh. Okay. What year is he?" "Who? My brother?" "Jake." "Year 4, computer science major." "He studies computer science too? That's cool" I smiled. She looked at me surprised. "What?" "Why do you keep asking me questions about him?" She narrowed her eyes at me. "No reason." I hurriedly answered and took a sip from my yogurt. Sarah chuckled and shook her head. "Aubrey, I wouldn't if I were you." She arched an eyebrow and shook her head. "Wouldn't what?" I asked confused "I can see through you, Aubrey and I can see you are kinda attracted to him." "Of course not" I denied. "There is no point denying it. Every girl wants him but he is nothing but a loner, a perilous bad boy." "What if he is not as bad as you think? What if all he needs is someone to see the good in him and shape him into a better person? You can't judge a book by its cover you know." I poured out my mind. She looked at me shocked. "Please do not tell me you are that person?" she asked "I didn't say that." I defended. "I really hope you aren't that person because it's like you deliberately walking into hell." "Yeah. I understand." But I couldn't get his picture off my head and mind. I saw his face anytime I closed my eyes. ****** It was the next day and I was done with my first lecture. I was packing up my books into my bag when a guy walked up to me. "Hi" He greeted. 'Wow! He is a keeper' I thought inwardly. He was about 5.8 inches tall with a lean body, pale skinned, "Hello." "My name's Greg." He extended his hand for a shake. "Aubrey." I shook his hand. "It's nice meeting you Aubrey." He smiled brightly at me. "Freshman?" He asked and I nodded. "Cool. I am a freshman too but different department." "Oh, this was a borrowed course?" "Yep." He popped the 'p'. "So where are you headed?" We left the classroom and started walking down the hallway. "The cafeteria." I informed him. "Do you mind if I join?" "Of course not. I haven't made friends here." I told him. "So, I guess I am your first friend then?" He smiled. "I think so." I giggled "That's cool then". Greg and I were walking to the cafeteria when I saw Jake coming out from the cafeteria with a small polythene bag that had food in it. I guess! I tried to not follow him but my legs betrayed me. "Erm..... Sorry, I have to go. It's urgent." I turned to Greg. "More than food?" He creased his eyebrows. "Yeah." "Okay then. Will see you around?" "Sure." I waved at him and ran towards the direction Jake went. Thank God i could still see him a little far from me. all the while walking after him I kept asking myself why I followed him in the first place. He turned a corner and I walked as fast as my legs could take me . I turned the corner and saw him talking to two guys. One had a face cap on while the other had his hood on. After whispering some words to themselves. Jake followed them and I came out from my hiding to resume following him. 'Why was I following him again?' my inner goddess shrugged. I kept following him until he turned another corner. I decided to stop because there was no point following him in the first place. I turned to leave but the deep voice that met my ears made me want to pee on myself. "If you knew you were going to turn back, why did you follow me this far?" The deep voice venomously said to me. I got goosebumps from the vibration that followed those words. I turned slowly to the source of the voice and I came face to face with Jake's devilish eyes glaring back at me. if look could kill, I'd be Dead. "Erm..... Uh... I i wasn't following you." I stuttered nervously. "Really?." He walked dangerously close to me 'Run! He is dangerous.' my inner goddess warned me. He got so close to me that we were only few inches apart from each other. "Then, what do you call what you've been doing?" He glared harder into my eyes. "Erm...." My words got caught in my throat. I searched for what to say in my mind. I pleaded my inner goddess to help me. "I..... was going to return this!" I brought out a pen I had in my pants back pocket "To you. It fell from you when you came out of the cafeteria." 'way to go Aubrey, that was a lame one' my inner goddess said to me. He looked from me to the pen. He must have noticed i lied. "Stay out of my lane, if you know what's good for you." He spat angrily. I looked into his and I couldn't see danger or evilness, all I saw were pains, resentment and loneliness. "I am not scared of you." I blurted out. I saw his pupils change but they immediately went back to normal. "I am warning you." He warned me. The two guys came out to call him. "Come on, let's go." The one with the face cap called "Business first, babe later." The other one said. Jake looked at me again. "She is not my babe." He clarified and went with the guys. I stood at the same spot looking at his restricting figure. 'What is wrong with me?' I thought. I have never been the type to lose her guard around a guy. 'What would my mother say if she hears I fell for a guy i bumped into on my first day in school?' I thought to myself. Then I remembered Kate's fable about bumping into a guy on your first day in school blooms an everlasting love. But an everlasting love seemed impossible with Jake. "My life is f****d up." I sighed inwardly. I went back to the dorm.
