CHAPTER ONE
There are times when everything just falls in place.
When all the countless hours spent worrying and thinking that something will go wrong do not even matter anymore. When you can finally have that fulfilling smile on your face and finally breathe after months or years of planning the most perfect wedding. Yes! This is that day.
My name is Alexa Daniels and I am a wedding planner. Weddings are significant events in people's lives as such couples are often willing to spend considerable amount of money to ensure a perfect wedding. It takes careful precision and all that depends on me.
A year in development has led us to this day, the wedding day. Soft music flows through the air filling the outside reception area, harmonizing with joyful cheers of the guests, who all have beautiful smiles displaying on their faces. Ranunculus flower and rose bouquets decorated everywhere and a three-foot lavender cake. Kids merrily chase each other giggling as they go round the elegantly decorated tables.
The couples stand out amongst the guests, dancing joyfully.
Nothing can go wrong as today is the day where it all has to be perfect.
I tap my acrylic nails on the countertop bar beside me, my eyes peircing through every corner. Nothing can go wrong I said to my self repeatedly. I watched the guests as if I'm waiting for something to go wrong. Children playing around and destroying the three-foot cake, a waiter tripping over and spilling the goods and drinks, a family member who doesn't want to wedding and plans to ruin it, a drunk best friend who spills out secrets. All in all, because in my many years of planning a wedding it has more than likely happened. I need to be alert at every second and minute, I can't be distracted because that's when something is most likely to go wrong.
And as usual the biggest distraction to women is man. Feeling a gaze into my side, a handsome guy appears to my direction. Taking a seat next to me at the bar, he looked and me smiling and looked at the bartender
I'll take a beer and whatsoever this gorgeous lady by my side would like. I looked away from the wedding reception to be focusing the handsome man beside me. My eyes locked with his light blue eyes, his eyes were as calm as the oceans.
"That's nice of you but I'm not drinking, thank you. I said giving a polite smile. Trying to get back on track focusing on the wedding reception.
"Not even one drink? You look stressed anyways, the man persists. " I'm actually the wedding planner so no drinking for me tonight, I smiled bluntly.
Wow! Intelligent, beautiful and successful. How amazing, he flirts. God how long have you been on this? He asks, starting a conversation.
"Around three years now, I told him.
"Must be my lucky day, I'll feel alot luckier if I could get your number since you won't let me buy you a drink he smirked. "I'm not ready for dating. I'm very career focused. Anyways I should go check my colleagues, today's wedding has to be perfect. I hope you enjoy your drink and the rest of the wedding. I stood up, smoothing down my dress. I turned around and make my way through the outside reception area towards my assistant, jane.
"You're allowed to have fun, you know." Jane teases, and I playfully rolled my eyes at her. "You're twenty-two not sixty-two and living with two cats with a knitting machine.
"Is that your way of telling me I'll be a
lame old cat lady?
"If the shoe fits", jane smiles as she tapped me on my shoulder. But as your friend and assistant I will never let you be a cat lady. My focus is on this wedding and the four other weddings. Guys are pure distraction anyways. I say
"I refuse to believe that and as a guy I'm offended. My photographer Adam appears next to us, his camera hanging around his neck with a drink in his hand.
"Shouldn't you be, you know, clicking clicking, taking pictures I tease him. He smiles sarcastically before lifting his camera as he took a shot of me, as the lights from the camera flashed my eyes.
"Heyyyy!" Watch it, was that necessary I say using my fits to hit him. Just doing job adam smirks.
"Can you fire someone for being annoying? I whisper to jane, who rolls her eyes at me. Jane and Adams helped me build up the wedding planning business after I graduated from oxford university. They're some of my bestfriend rather then work colleagues.
" you need to relax", the wedding is going as planned. Jane says. I'm still not taking chances , anything can come up. Remember one of our first weddings where the ex-girlfriend turned up? Crashed the wedding and blurted out that she has a child for the married groom.
"Alexa! Alexa dear" someone shouts and I see the bride, Winnie waving me over to her.
"The queen calls" jane mutters and I smiled. Every bride are always tensed up and winnie is one of them.
Talking about the wedding at any chance she gets? To whoever will listen? Changes plan any minute yes!
And how is the new Mrs bryan doing, I teased as she blushes uncontrollably. "Thank you so much for everything and I'll like to Apologize for all the yelling and phone calls she says as she holds my hand.
" I'm glad you are happy and I hope you and Dave have a long-lasting marriage. I say as I feel my phone vibrate. "If you'll excuse me, I need to get going I say excusing myself. I make my way back over to jane who tells me the problem.
" Sighs, today is going to be hectic.
I drop my keys on the couch, pull my heels off and closed the door of my apartment behind me. I make my way to the bathroom, took a shower as I let the water trickle down my skin. Opening the fridge, I took out a bottle of wine.
Another wedding down, I went to the living room and sat down on the black leather couch. I put on the TV and relaxed sipping my wine. My phone rings with a call from my bestfriend Carla Wilson and I picked up quickly
"Let me guess", you're watching TV, drinking wine and sitting on the black couch? She knew so well as my bestfriend of eight years. "You know me so well" I smiled, sipping my wine.
"Your you are the only Twenty-Two year old I know that after a long day of work would rather watch TV in a lame apartment all by herself than drinking at a bar or club with her best friend surrounded with lots of hot and sexy guys.
"You work too much, you know that?
There is it, what I'm told alot by my friends and colleagues. However I worked hard to get where I am today I said confidently.
"Just take a break, you know any normal person would take a break before taking on new clients"
I have four weddings I am planning for people at the moment, so I couldn't rest I say.
"Don't you have something else to do than to criticize my work life?
"I do, I am meeting up with an attractive man tonight. I don't know who he is yet, but I'll pick once I get to the bar carla chuckles.
" b***h!" I teased. Well, don't forget to make sure he doesn't have a girlfriend.
"How you've gone without making out or s*x for so long is beyond me. Carla says
It hasn't been that long, I rolled my eyes and that's a very big lie as we both laughed.
"You have fun at home, while I enjoy the company of some sexy guy. Love you!
Yeah..yeah.. love you too, before hanging up as I continued watching TV.
Who needs a man anyways?
Do I? I don't think so, as I sipped my wine.
