I woke up early on my birthday. I have already finished all of my schooling. I got up and got in a shower. Then I walked back to my room and put jeans on and a tank top with a sweater over it. I packed my bags up. I had all my clothes, laptop, shoes, everything I would need. I placed my mini-staff in my purse. I left my car key and house key on my desk. I looked around my room and frowned. Remembering all the times I had in this room with Paul and my other friends. This was the last time I would probably see this room. I grabbed my backpack and two suitcases and walked down the stairs. Bella and Charlie weren't up yet. So I sat my stuff down by the door and went to the kitchen. I looked at my phone to see Director Fury had texted me.
"Agent Coulson will be at your house at 7 to pick you up." The text read. I replied with a simple 'okay' before placing my phone back in my pocket, sitting down at the kitchen table to wait for Charlie to come down the stairs. At 6:30, Charlie came down the stairs holding two wrapped presents. He sighed when he saw me. I smiled at him.
"These was with you when you were dropped off at my door. They came with a note that said to give them to you on your 18th birthday." Charlie explained while handing me the presents. I took them and looked at them. I knew it was from Frigga. I smiled and looked up at him.
"When do you leave?" He asked me. He seemed really sad. I knew he cared, he just could never get past losing his wife and younger daughter.
"7." I answered. He nodded his head. I stood up and gave him a hug.
"I'll miss you," I said. Knowing he would miss me but he was happy I was leaving, he could finally forget about the mistake that he could never escape.
"I'll miss you too. I wish I could see you off, but I gotta go to work." Charlie said to me.
"I know, it's okay." I comforted him. He sighed and walked towards the door. I sat back down and looked down at the table. I heard Bella coming down the steps soon after.
"Hey, Happy Birthday." Bella said. I looked up at her and smiled.
"Yeah, thanks. Hey, I know I haven't really been the best sister. And I'm sorry for that. Just know that I'm only a phone call away if you ever need me." I told her. We may not have had the best relationship, but she was still my sister and I still cared for her.
"Yeah, I'll remember that," Bella said. I heard the knock and got up knowing it was time.
"I guess that's my ride," I said to her. She nods and walks with me to the door. I grabbed my purse and backpack, I placed my presents in it and grabbed my two suitcases while Bella opened the door. There stood a guy with short brown hair, a receding hair line and he was in a suit.
"Your Agent Coulson?" I asked him, wanting to confirm his identity.
"Yes, Your Jade?" He asked me. I nodded, letting him know I was who he asked. He nodded his head and grabbed both of my suitcases. I walked out with Bella. Bella locked the door and looked at me. I placed my backpack in the trunk with my suitcases. Then I walked towards the passenger side of the car. I looked up to see Bella watching me.
"Bye Bells." I said, with a small wave.
"Bye Jade." Bella said before getting in her truck. I got in the SUV and buckled up. Agent Coulson started the car and backed out of the driveway. I pulled my phone out to see I had a text from Paul.
"Happy birthday, babe. I wish I could come see you one more time. Have fun in New York City. I love you." Paul texted me. I smiled a small sad smile. I will miss Paul. He was the one person that always understood me. Seeing as his dad was constantly drinking and his mom had bailed a long time ago.
"Thank you, hun. I wish I could see you one more time too. I love you, Paul. Don't forget about me. I know I wont forget you." I texted back to him. I sighed and grabbed my mini staff out of my purse. The purple crystal ball was glowing just a little. I looked into it to see Paul looking at his phone smiling. Agent Coulson glanced over at me. The crystal ball stopped glowing so I put it back in my purse.
"So I've read your file. Says your a witch. Is that true?" Agent Coulson asked. We were driving to Port Angales to the airport.
"Yeah, my mom was Frigga, the Goddess of Witchcraft and Magic along with a few other things." I inform him.
"Right, Do you know how Charlie Swan met her?" Agent Coulson asked. I knew he was just trying to make conversation.
"He was at a bar celebrating. He had just graduated from the police academy and had already gotten a job working with Forks police station. Well, my mom suduced him in his drunken state and that's how I came to be." I say to him. He nodded his head.
"So does Charlie know about your magic and witch craft?" Agent Coulson asked.
"No. I've kept it from him." I told him, Charlie wasn't strong enough to handle that kind of news. We stayed quiet the rest of the drive to Port Angales. Agent Coulson pulls up next to a jet. We got out of the SUV, he grabbed my two suitcases while I grabbed my backpack. He led the way into the jet. He sat both suitcases down on some seats. I sat my back pack down next to them. I looked at the pilot's seat to see two people already sitting there. One of them closed the ramp and started the jet. Coulson sat down on a seat behind the pilot. I sighed and sat down. Coulson was on his phone. I got my phone out to see I had a few texts from a few people.
"Happy Birthday! Gonna miss you girl!" Jessica texted.
"Happy Birthday, Jade! Who's gonna help me make fun of Eric or Cullen now that your gone?" Mike texted.
"Happy Birthday, Jade. I'm gonna miss you, you were the best study buddy." Angela texted.
"Happy Birthday Jade. See you in New York." Clint texted. I smiled and texted all of them thank you. I placed my phone in my purse and got out my mini staff. I waved my hand over the crystal ball. The purple mist flows around the staff, enlarging it. I grabbed it and smiled. I looked into the glowing crystal ball, watching my friends at school. Jessica, Mike, Angela, Tyler and Eric were hanging by Tyler's van waiting for the school day to start.
"I'm really going to miss her. She brought life into this place." Jessica was saying to Angela.
"I know she was always getting in trouble. She would never back down from a dare," Angela said. I smiled at the ball while watching them. The ball switched views. I was now looking at Paul and Jared, they were walking down the hall of the reservation school.
"So she left this morning?" Jared asked.
"Yeah, I highly doubt she'll come back. She really has nothing to come back to. I mean, yeah, Charlie cares about her but he sees her as more of a mistake that he can't escape. And her sister is no different. They haven't even had one conversation since she arrived in town. I hate to see her leave, but I think it's for the best," Paul said to Jared.
"You sure? Everyone on the reservation knows Jade and you was endgame. I mean no one could come between the two of you." Jared said. I didn't see me and Paul as endgame. I just always saw Paul as a friend, nothing more. I mean, yeah, we would make out and do stuff together like all the time, but I never thought of him as anything but a friend.
"Endgame, huh? I never saw her as anything but a friend. I mean, yeah, we shared some very..." Paul was saying, but I stopped the crystal ball cutting him off. Coulson glanced at me, but said nothing. I made my staff shrink back into a mini size. I placed it back in my purse and got up. I walked over to the pilot's seat and looked over their shoulders.
"What does that button do?" I asked while pointing to a red button.
"That makes the machine gun come out," the co-pilot said.
"There's a machine gun on this?" I asked in excitement. I heard Coulson chuckle.
"Yes, there is. But we only use it when needed to." The Co-pilot informed me with a chuckle.
"What does this button do?" I asked, pointing to another button.
"That starts the engine." The pilot said. I looked at Coulson.
"Is part of my training learning how to fly one of these things?" I asked him.
"No, though I'm sure Agent Barton will teach you anyway," Agent Coulson said. I smiled and went back to sit back down. Once we landed, I got up. I grabbed my backpack, while Agent Coulson grabbed both of my suitcases. He led the way out of the jet and onto the rooftop of a building. He led the way inside and down the stairs. We walked into the tenth level of the building. He led the way to Director Fury's office. Coulson sat the bags down and walked out of the room, leaving me there with Fury. I sat my backpack down and went and sat down on the chair that was in front of his desk. He looked up from his computer at me.
"We're waiting for Barton. I've got you an apartment here in the city. Rent and bills are already taken care of. You have nothing to worry about at the moment," Director Fury said. I nodded my head and leaned back in the chair. Director Fury opened a drawer in his desk and pulled something out. He placed it on his desk and slid it over to me.
"That's your badge and ID Card. You are only a Level one Agent. Barton recommended you become an Agent right away, that you were good at just about everything he was training you in. You still have a few training sessions left before I approve your first mission," Fury said to me. I grabbed the little wallet-looking thing. I opened it to see the SHIELD Badge and my ID card. My ID card had a picture of me on it. On the top, in blue it said SHIELD, then my picture on the left. It said 'SWAN V JADE' as my name. 'Specialist' as title. 'F' for s*x, 'Black & Purple' for hair, 'Jade Green' for eyes, '5 ft' for height. Then it said Level 1 Clearance, under which it said, '2005Mar10' as the issue date. Then finally it read 'Issued by Director, NEW YORK.' I shut the little wallet and placed it in my purse. I heard a knock on the door before someone entered. I looked behind me to see Clint walking in. He was in a vest, black cargo pants and combat boots. I turned and looked back at Fury.
"Agent Barton, nice of you to join us," Fury said.
"Sir," Barton said, he sat down on the chair next to me.
"I have issued her ID card and badge, she is officially a level one Agent. She'll be your partner and your responsibility until I feel she is ready to go out on her own." Fury said.
"Yes, Sir," Barton said.
"Now, because she is now your partner. I must give you the full debriefing on her." Fury said, as he got a file out of his drawer and slid it across the desk towards Clint. He grabbed it and looked at it. He looked through it, he shut it and sat it down.
"You're a witch?" Clint asked me.
"Kind of. My mother is Frigga, Goddess of Love, War, Beauty, s*x, Fertility, Witchcraft, And Magic. It's only right that I have the witch's touch." I said to him. He nodded and looked at Fury.
"Take her to her apartment, you can finish her training tomorrow." Fury said. Clint nodded and looked at me. We got up. I grabbed my backpack and one of my suitcases while Clint grabbed the other suitcase. He led the way to the elevator. Once we were in the elevator, he pushed a button for the ground floor. We walked out of the elevator and towards the parking garage. Clint led the way to a black car. He popped the trunk so we could place my suitcases and backpack in it. Then we went and got in the car. He drove us to a building. He parked the car, we got out and grabbed my bags. He paid for the parking meter before we walked into the building. He led the way up the stairs. Once on the 3rd floor, he led the way to 3B. He unlocked the door and walked in. I followed in after him. I was in the kitchen as soon as I walked in. I looked to the left to see the door to the bathroom was right across from it. I walked past that to see a bed in the middle of the left wall with two night stands on either side of it along with a lamp on each table. I looked to see the closet was beside the bed. I turned and looked at the other wall. A small table with two chairs and a loveseat sat across from the bed. The windows had purple curtains. I sat my backpack, suitcase and purse down. Clint put my other suitcase down on the bed. I turned and looked at him.
"It's small," I complained, making him roll his eyes.
"You're not supposed to like it. Besides, once you get going on mission's you'll barely be here," Clint said while sitting down on the loveseat. I nodded my head.
"True. So when do I get to go on a mission?" I asked him, eager to begin my new life and job.
"Slow down, first of all, we gotta finish your training," Clint said.
"Okay, so when do we do that?" I asked him.
"We start tomorrow. I have to get you ready for the field test on the 18th," Clint said.
"Field test?" I asked him, confused. That no one had said anything about a field test.
"You'll demonstrate your use of weapons and fighting skills. Your speed and strength will be tested too," Clint informed me..
"Should be easy enough," I say with a shrug..
"Don't get too c***y, if you fail that test. That's it, your done. You won't be a SHIELD Agent, you'll be stuck at a desk," Clint said.
"Okay, so why don't we start training now?" I asked him, once again getting eager.
"We'll start tomorrow, be downstairs and ready to go by 6 am." Clint said as he got up. He sat the apartment key on the small table then went to walk towards the door. He stopped as he got to the door. He turned and looked at me.
"I'm sure Fury had an Agent, stock the kitchen with food and other stuff," Clint said.
"Okay, Thank's Clint," I thanked him. He nodded before walking out of the door. I was all alone in this apartment. I sighed and started to unpack. I hung up all my clothes and placed some of my stuff in the small chest of drawers that was in the closet. After I got my suitcases unpacked, I walked over to my backpack. I pulled the present out and sat it on my bed, I grabbed my laptop out of my bag and sat it on the little table. I placed a picture of me and my friends on one nightstand, then I placed a picture of Paul and I on the other nightstand. I grabbed one of my presents and sat down on the edge of my bed. I opened it up to see it was a black book. I flipped it over to see it was the grimoire of Frigga. I opened it up to the front page to find a note.
"To my beautiful Daughter. I must leave you with your father. I know you will have unlimited magic and witchcraft on your side. I leave you my staff. It will let you see those in need or even those who you miss. The crystal ball can show you the past, the present and the future. It holds a lot of magic, keep it on you at all times. I give you my Grimoire, that way you will be able to learn more about witchcraft and magic. You are powerful and made to do good in the world. Always follow the witch's instinct. Love your mother."
The note said, I smiled and flipped to the next page. It was interesting to read. I closed the book and minimized it and placed it in my purse with my staff. It was something I would need to keep on me at all times. I grabbed the other present and opened it up. It was a plain box. After getting it all open, I pulled out a pair of thigh-high black boots, a black one-piece body suit, with a purple belt and a skull with fangs as the buckle. I then pulled out a long black jacket that was violet in color on the inside, the sleeves stopped at the elbow. At the very bottom of the box was a pair of black fingerless gloves and another note. I picked up the note and gloves. I placed everything beside me so I could read the note.
"This suit was specially designed in Asgard. Your brother's Thor and even Loki had a little input on the design. Thor had thought of the color while Loki gave one of his own belt buckles for the suit. They wanted you to feel as if you had a piece of them with you at all times. Wear the suit like any proud Asgardian. Even though you were raised among the midgardians, you will always be an Asgardian princess. Love your mother and brothers."
I smiled at the note. I have two more siblings. I hope one day I'll meet them. Hopefully, we will get along better than Bella and I did.
I gathered the paper and got up to throw it in the trash that sat on the wall by the closet. I placed the note in my nightstand so it wouldn't get lost. Then I walked over to the fridge and opened it. I saw a half gallon of milk, some yogurt, lunch meat, and a few other things. I shut the door and opened the cabinet to find a box of lucky charms. I shrugged and grabbed it. I looked in another cabinet to find a bowl. I found a spoon, I grabbed the milk out of the fridge and made myself a bowl of cereal. I walked over to the table and sat down eating my bowl of cereal. After I ate my cereal, I took my bowl and spoon to the sink and washed them. After I dried them, I put them up. I walked over to my bed where I had laid my phone. I picked it up and saw I had a few text. I smiled.
"So how's New York?" Paul asked.
"So far it's good. I've only seen where I would be working at and my apartment. I've got a test next Friday, to see if I even get to stay here and be an Agent." I replied. Then I went to the next message.
"How is New York? Any cute boys? What about shopping?" Jessica texted. I rolled my eyes.
"New York is good, and I haven't been able to explore it yet, so I don't know about the boys or shopping yet." I texted back to her. She would only be worried about the boys and shopping.
"Don't worry about it Babe, you know your going to ace this test. You'll be the best Agent there is." Paul texted back. I smiled at his text.
"Thanks Pauly I needed to hear that." I texted. Jessica still hadn't texted me. I sighed and looked out the window. It was only like four in the afternoon. I sighed and grabbed my purse and keys and made sure I had cash, then walked out of my apartment. I locked the door and went down the stairs to the lobby. Someone was sitting in an office. I walked over to the office and knocked on the open door. The woman looked up. She had pretty mocha skin, long straight hair and, unlike a lot of women these days, her nails weren't incredibly long.
"How can I help you?" She asked, with a smile.
"I'm new here. I was hoping maybe you had a map. Or could you tell me where the closest store is?" I asked, she smiled and motioned me over.
"You must be Jade Swan. Nick Fury told me you would be here today. Don't worry, I can print you an easy map so you will be able to navigate and get around." The women said.
"Thank god. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to wonder around lost," I said to her. She smiled and printed out the map. She picked it up from the printer and sat it on her desk. She then took a sharpie and started to draw different colored lines. She then handed it to me.
"So we are here. There is a shopping center here, and over here is the grocery store. Should be simple enough to figure out." The women said while handing me the map. I looked at it and smiled.
"Thank you, this will help a lot," I said to her.
"No problem, I'm the buildings manager. If you need anything just come knock." She said.
"Okay, thank you again." I said to her. I walked out of her office while looking at the map. I walked out of the building and in the direction of the shopping center.
