Chapter 1

Hey, I'm Jade Violet Swan. I was named Jade because I have jade green eyes. And Violet, because my hair is naturally black with violet highlights. I was dropped off as a baby wrapped in a blanket with nothing but a necklace, a staff with a purple crystal ball and a note to Charlie. As I got older, I started to wear the necklace every day. I loved the design of it. It has two crescent moons with a black rose in the middle. Growing up wasn't easy. At the age of five, I was already showing signs of being different. Of course, at that age, I had no idea how different I was. Having unlimited magic and being able to do spells like witches was fun. Finding out I was telepathic not so much. Yes, I can read minds, but I can also push my own thoughts into others' heads.Of course, I'm faster and stronger than regular humans. Being able to hear and see things from far away always comes in handy. Finding out I could understand and speak any language was interesting. Not really having to study for anything also came in handy. I'm super intelligent. By the age of five, I had found a spell to minimize my staff so that way I could keep it with me at all times. I'm seventeen for another two months. Bella, my half sister, is also seventeen. I'm in the same grade as her. Even though I'm insanely smart and could graduate now if I wanted to. I'm only a few months older than she is. I'm also the reason Charlie and Renee got a divorce. Anyway, it's January 18th, Bella's first day of school. I've lived with Charlie my whole life. Nothing really happens in Forks. It's under constant cloud cover and the sun rarely shines. I was friends with Jessica and Angela. Along with Mike, Tyler and Eric. I was also friends with Jacob Black and a few of the other guys from the reservation. Sitting down at the table beside Jessica. She had already told me she didn't really like Bella. But she was trying to be nice because Mike liked her. I felt like she was just telling me this because she thought I didn't like Bella. But that's not true. Yes, Bella's and my relationship isn't the best, but she is still my sister and I will always care about her. I rolled my eyes as I watched Mike pull the chair out next to Eric, letting Bella sit down. Then Mike sat next to her. "Mike! I see you met my homegirl, Bella!" Eric exclaimed with a hint of jealousy in his voice. "Your... your homegirl?" Mike questioned, as if he knew Erik had no chance with her.. I watched as Tyler came up behind Bella and kissed her cheek. "My girl," Tyler claimed as he pulled Mike's chair out from under him. I laughed as Mike fell to the floor, he got up and ran after Tyler, chasing him around the cafeteria. That was when Angela came up and snapped a picture of Bella. Blinding her with the flash, I looked at Angela. Wondering why she took her picture. "Sorry, you're good for the feature." Angela said. I rolled my eyes. Bella was tripping over her words trying to get Angela not to put her in the school paper.. "Feature's dead Angela, don't bring it up again." Eric said to Angela, then he looked at Bella. "Don't worry baby, I got your back." He walked off, leaving a disappointed Angela. I got up and looked at Jessica. "I'm out. Besides, everyone knows I don't eat this garbage," I said. She laughed and nodded her head. "Okay, Jade, see you in class." Jessica said. I smirked and grabbed my bag and walked off towards the door. Leaving my friends with Bella. I knew the Cullen's were coming, I knew all about them being vampires. I wasn't into them though. I didn't find them beautiful or anything. I opened the door and walked past Rosalie and Emmett. They both watched as I went. I met Edward's eyes as I passed him. I turned my head and walked towards the parking lot. I got to my car and tossed my bag on top of the trunk. I hopped onto the trunk and looked around. I brought my hands up, then looked around. I moved my hands around, making a purple mist fill the air around me. I smiled at the color of the mist. I heard footsteps so I dropped my hand, making the mist disappear. I looked to my right to see a guy with an eyepatch, wearing all black. He had a gun in a holister on his belt.  "What's up, Eyepatch?" I asked the man. He handed me a paper file not saying anything. I took it and looked at the name 'S.H.I.E.L.D. Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.' I looked at him in confusion, he just nodded towards the file. I sighed and opened it. It was information, but not on SHIELD, on something called 'The Avengers Initiative'. I looked over the paperwork, they really had no one but me in mind for these Avengers. "Okay, Eyepatch, I'll bite. What is The Avengers Initiative? And why was I the first one to be considered?" I asked him. I closed the file and handed it back to him. "I've had my eye on you for a while now, Ms. Swan. You have great power. You could pose a threat in the future or you could help us keep threats at bay. There is this idea that 'The Avengers Initiative' is to bring together a group of remarkable people with remarkable powers and see if they can fight together as a team when the world needs them too." Eyepatch said to me.  "Who else do you have your eyes on for this team?" I asked wondering if he even had an idea of who would be joining this team of heroes. "I only have one other for now. He is already a SHIELD Agent. His name is Clint Barton. He is a master spy, an assassin and has perfect marksmanship. If you agree, he would be the one to train you, in hand to hand combat, and maybe even give you a little weapons training." Eyepatch said to me. I noticed kids were coming out of the lunch room. I looked back at Eyepatch and grabbed my backpack, then jumped off the trunk of my car. I held my hand out for him to take. "You got yourself a deal. When would I start?" I asked him. As we dropped hands. "You're only seventeen, so I'll be back on your eighteenth birthday." He said, he went to walk off towards a SUV. But he stopped and turned to look at me. "And Ms. Swan. Tell no one about what you've seen today," Eyepatch said before turning and finishing his walk towards the SUV. "Hey, Eyepatch? What's your name?" I asked him. He opened the SUV's door and looked at me. "Director Nick Fury, I look forward to working with you, Ms. Swan." He said as he got in the SUV and sped off. I shrugged and walked towards the school building. I had to get to class, I had history. We were learning about the witch trials of Salam. I sat by Alice in this class, she sat by Jasper like always. I sat down and used a little magic to open the book to where it needed to be. Alice watched the book open to the page it needed, the purple mist disappeared right when the teacher turned around and looked at us. "Ms. Swan, so glad to see you could join us. Why don't you tell everyone when the Salem witch trials began and ended?" The teacher said to me. "Right, well, the Witch trials of Salem started in 1692 and ended in 1693." I said, not even bothering to look at my book. "What happened during the trials?" The teacher asked the class but I once again answered. "The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 and May 1693. More than two hundred people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, nineteen of whom were executed by hanging, fourteen women and five men. One other man, Giles Corey, was pressed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail." I answered. "Right, Ms. Swan, please give someone else a chance." The teacher said. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. I felt my phone vibrate signaling that I had a text. I got it out of my pocket and held it under the table, I had a purple razor flip phone. I looked at the screen to see someone named Clint Barton was texting me. His number was already programed in my phone. Fury had said Clint Barton would be the one to train me.  "Director Fury had your number programed in my phone. Also, be ready. I'll be there in Forks by Monday to start your training." The text read, I looked up at the teacher to see him talking about the trials and writing stuff down on the chalk board. I looked back at my phone. "Can't wait." I texted back before closing my phone and placing it back in my pocket. I placed my hand under the table and moved it around. I looked towards the clock, watching as the purple mist changed the time. I stopped, making the mist disappear. The bell rang indicating the end of the day. I closed my book and stuffed it in my bag. The teacher seemed confused, he was looking at his watch, then back to the school clock. I got up and walked towards the door. "Everything okay?" I asked him. He looked up from his watch and then back to the clock. Clearly confused. "Yes, everything is fine. My watch must have been set wrong," he said. I looked at his watch and smirked. "Yeah, I would say so." I confirmed even though I knew it wasn't. I walked out of the classroom, Alice and Jasper were leaning on the wall. As I walked past, Alice grabbed my arm. Her cold hand touched my warm skin, sending a shiver through my body. "You shouldn't use your magic that way." Alice whispered to me, as if she was worried. "Why? It's not like I'm hurting anyone," I said to her. "Just try not to use it too much," Alice said. I rolled my eyes and walked away from them. I really didn't see what the big deal was. I felt my phone vibrate. I sighed and took it out of my pocket. I flipped it open to see Clint was texting me again. "I thought we would start off with easy stuff. Director Fury is supposed to be talking to your dad. About home schooling you. That way we can train more frequently." Clint texted me. "Great, what happens when I start training full time in March?" I texted back. I closed my phone and walked to my car that was parked next to Rosalie's BMW. Opening the door so I could throw my bag in, I was about to get in myself but my phone vibrated once again. I got it out and flipped it open. "In March you will move to New York City and finish your training, becoming a full Agent of SHIELD. Trust me, you will still finish school." Clint texted back. "I can't become a full Agent in March?" I asked before getting in the car and sitting my phone down on the passenger seat. I started my car up and drove home. I got there, grabbed my backpack and phone and walked to the door. I was just about to unlock the door when I saw Charlie pull up. A black SUV pulled up behind him. I unlocked the door and opened it. Charlie got out of his car and looked at the SUV. I watched as Fury got out of the SUV. Charlie watched Director Fury as he walked closer to him. "Hello Mr. Swan. I'm Director Nick Fury with the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. Can we talk?" Fury asked Charlie. "Sure let's go inside." Charlie said, confused as to why someone with the government was wanting to speak with him. I let Charlie walk in first, then Director Fury. I followed after them. I shut the door and went to walk up to my room. But Charlie stopped me. "Stop right there. Came back!" Charlie said. Assuming I was the reason Fury wanted to talk to him. I rolled my eyes and turned around and walked into the kitchen where Charlie and Fury sat at the table. "What's this about Sir?" Charlie asked Fury. "This is about her. I've already spoken to her. And she has already agreed. But I need her to finish school online. Seeing as she needs to complete the training and get to work right away. Her partner, Clint Barton, will be here on Monday to start training her. I haven't hired her yet because she is still under age. But on March 10th she will become a full-fledge trainee for S.H.I.E.L.D. Once she completes the training or when Agent Barton feels she is ready, she will become an Agent," Director Fury said. Charlie looked at me, then back to Fury. "Online school? I don't know, what if she needs help? I won't be around to give her help with classes," Charlie said. Fury nodded as if he already took care of it. "I've already talked to the school superintendent and she has let me know that she is ahead in all of her classes. That she has enough credits to graduate early if she wants." Fury told him. Making sure Charlie knew that I didn't need the help and could do it. "Okay, but she goes nowhere until her eighteenth birthday." Charlie said. I knew he would be fine with me going, seeing as how he blamed me for Bella never wanting to come see him and Renee leaving him. Fury stood up and looked at me and nodded. Charlie walked him to the door. I took this as my chance to run up to my room. I did and shut my door. I got my phone out to see that Clint had texted. "If I feel you are ready by March 10th, then I would recommend that you become a full Agent," Clint said. I smiled and knew I was about to work my butt off to be a full Agent by my birthday. I grabbed my staff out of my bag and smiled.  "Don't worry, you'll have your time soon enough." I whispered to it before slipping it back in the pocket of my backpack. Someone knocked on my door so I walked to it and opened it. Charlie stood there looking at me. "When did you apply for a job at this SHIELD place?" He asked. I knew I couldn't tell him the truth. "A week ago, I thought you would be happy. I'm doing something in law. I'm going to be working with the government." I lied to him. He sighed. I knew he cared for me, he just couldn't get past losing his wife and other daughter because of me. "I am happy that you took an interest in Law but you could have started out easy, I would have been happy to get you into the academy I trained at," Charlie told me, trying to get me to stay. But even he knew that wasn't going to happen. "I didn't really see myself as a cop though. This is a place I can grow and be more then just a pretty face." I said. He sighed and nodded, knowing I wasn't going to stay. "Okay, so where do you go after your birthday?" Charlie asked. "New York City, That's where one of the headquarters is." I told him. He nodded and frowned. Knowing the dangers of a young girl living alone in a big place like New York. "Just be careful," Charlie warned. A small part of him worried, since I was his daughter, but I knew he was happy that I was leaving. "Don't worry, I'll be trained in self defense." I let him know, he nodded and walked back down the stairs to relax and watch TV.
