“What time is it?" Crystal asked as she woke suddenly. But no one was there to answer.
She looked around but didn't recognize where she was. As she looked down she saw she was still wearing the clothes she had on at Duke's. Then she realized – she was still at Duke's. The panic inside her began to fade.
She spied her empty wine glass on the table next to her and heard low, familiar music coming from somewhere in the house, and decided to follow the welcoming sound.
As she wandered the dimly-lit hall she took stock of how minimalistic the furnishings were. Duke lived extravagantly, but there was a well-kept sparseness to it that surprised her: it was something else she'd overlooked during that first visit.
