CHAPTER 58 His ears were ringing. That was the first thing Steadman became aware of. The second thing was that something beneath him was digging painfully into his thigh. He tried to move, and that’s when the third thing made itself known. He was trapped. Sirens wailed in the distance. Their distorted screaming woke the pain center in his brain and streaks of agony shot to his extremities. A strong odor of gasoline laced the air, nauseating him and making him wonder if the next thing on the agenda was an explosion.
