Luelle POV
A WEEK LATER
“What? What do you mean it's alright? I just said I can't get all of the money so soon.” I repeated as I stared at Doctor Gary but he only looked at me and smiled.
“Look, you have nothing to worry about, the bills for the surgery have been paid off by an anonymous donor.” He mused and I blinked not sure if I should be overjoyed or just sit and cry. This has to be a joke right?
“You’re being serious?” I asked again and he nodded and from the corner of my eyes I could feel the dampness coming.
“Yes Luelle, someone has paid it off for you and all that is needed now is to proceed with the surgery.” Doctor Gary explained. “That is why I sent it to you, to let you know that you don’t have to worry.”
“I- Uh- u- i-” Words broke repeatedly in my head and in my lips. “I really don’t kn- know what to say Dr. Gary.” I admitted and he smiled again.
“It's fine, really. I know how hard you work and see your dedication towards looking after you mother. You’re a great lady Luelle and you deserve all the help you can get.”
“Is there a way to say thank you to the anonymous donor? Ho- how can i reach out to them?” I asked.
“You can’t actually, but you can leave a note and i can paste it on the board just in case they may come in.” he suggested and i nodded.
After finalizing the procedure with Dr. Gary, I walked back to my mothers room and sat on the chair next to her bed. She was fast asleep, again.
“Mum- we- i-” I stammered and chuckled. “I don’t know how it happened but we got someone to pay for this- honestly I didn't know what I was going to do and now I just- I don’t know. I’m just relieved mom. Dr. Gary says the procedure will begin tomorrow and I just can’t wait to have you back on your feet again.”
Later that day, Lily and I met up back at a cafe just at the corner of the street, it was the closest place to the office that didn’t serve bland food.
“So you’re telling me that someone anonymously paid your mother’s bills?” She asked as we carried our tray back to the desk. We had chosen to sit at the corner which gave us a better view of the entire place without having eyes on us.
“Yes, Dr. Gary said so.” I replied and unwrapped my sandwich. “I don’t even know how to feel about it Lilly, i’m happy, excited but at the same time guilty, i would really want to know who this person is”
“You mean the good samaritan?” She said and I nodded , taking a bite of the layered bread.
“A good samaritan paying off fifteen thousand like it cost nothing and I was almost breaking down when I heard the price.” I muttered after swallowing.
“Well sorry to break it to you Luelle, the money you find extremely large in your eyes is like peanuts to others. I mean to my cousin Kain, he sure doesn’t seem like the type that would be bothered by fifteen thousand dollars.” Lily stated and my mind went back to her cousin and his friend, i didnt tell her that i had seen him that day at the hospital speaking to Dr. GARY.
“One of his cars costs over a hundred and ninety thousand dollars-” she commented and i tried not to spit out my drink. “Easy there, don’t waste your food because of his car.”
“One of his cars? Wait? What exactly does your cousin do?” She leaned closer to me and whispered.
“He’s a trust fund baby,” Lily didnt like speaking much about her family, just her brother and cousin who happened to be from a wealthy family.
“Wait, i know trust fund babies have generational wealth in the entire family- does that mean?” My eyes widened as i stared at her. “You’re also a trust fund baby!”
“Well, i dont like to identify as such, which is one of the reasons i’m here.” she admitted. “My mother and my father are from two different backgrounds which caused a lot of stirring with my grandparents especially grandma, she didn’t like that the blood was tainted with someone who wasn’t - you know- i saw how much my mother was being treated while my father was away and she wouldnt even say anything to him about it. I really dont want to be a part of a family that lets this thing get to there head and because of that i’m not going to act entitled for anything. Kain’s parents are both old money peeps but eh is not a jerk like some of them.” She explained just about the same time the doors to the cafe swung opened and the man i didn’t think of seeing walked in.
“Why is he here?” I mutterd with my gaze focused on the man who happens to just everywhere i go. He was clad in a crisp black suit and his hair neatly styled to teh side, he had his phone placed to his ears and from the side of his face, his features weren’t soft, the strong outline of jaws and cheekbones was there and from the way the top of his brows wrinkled, it was clear that he was pissed about something. As if sensing that i was watching him, he turned and our gaze collided. The light all around made it easier to see all his features that dimmer light had hidden back at the restaurant.
“I’m not going to lie but he’s hot.” I heard Lily say but all that i was focused on was the man in front of me. I didnt realize how hard i was staring until Lily tapped my hands in excitement to let me know he was walking towards our table.
“Ladies,” his deep baritone voice vibrated through my entire body and i swallowed as his eyes remain on mine, he was giving me the uttermost attention.
“Kai, right?” Lily asked and his name imprinted on my mind, Kai.
“Yes,” he replied. “Is your friend okay? I think she’s a bit awe struck.” He completed tucking his phone away as the corner of his lips rise up in a smirk.
“Excuse me?” I muttered blinking back at him. “I’m very much fine.”
“Well I couldnt help but notice you staring at me Love, you should really consider taking a picture.” His accent, strong, powerful and trimmed. My face heats up in embarrassment and Lily giggled.
“Are you following me or something?” I asked and his brows raised in amusement.
“Why? I should ask you the same thing since you always have your eyes on me?” He replied with clear mockery in his voice.
“You two have met before now? Apart from the restaurant?”
“Yes and its not funny- Kai.” His name sounded foreign on my lips but it did get a reaction out of him.
“ I would say it is fate-”
“Fate is not words i use on my end, but you’re sure welcome to foster that delusion.” That was it, he was an arrogant prick and he wasn’t even trying to hide it.
“Are you always this arrog-” I didnt get to fire back as a man clad in sharp suit walked up to Kai but Kai paid no attention to him.
“Mr. Reed?”
“What is it?”
“Its time.” the man said.
“I would love to indulge your questions El, but i have much better things to do with my time. Make sure you treat me next time you see me soon.” he said and walked away, leaving me in the shock of his arrogance.
“I can see the sizzle Luelle, calm down now we don’ need you dreaming hot sexy stuff about Kai.” Even as we finished up eating, some part of me was sparked to see him again.
