The trek back to our makeshift shelter is slow, mostly because I'm still limping like a tragic heroine in a soap opera. Jasper is carrying all the firewood including the ones that I had collected. But, in my defense, he offered to carry all of them. Well, okay, fine, I may have just dumped my share into his arms without asking, but that’s beside the point. The point is: I have a new mission now. Make Jasper smile. And not just the usual smirks he throws my way when I do something embarrassing or get annoyed at him. A real smile. A big, undeniable, possibly even laughter-inducing smile. So far, my track record is looking grim. I glance up at him.
