In the library...
The wind howled outside as was normal for an autumn day in the middle of Scotland. Grey, gravelly and growing with the threat of rain, Brigit sought solace in her favourite library. She loved the smell of books, the feel of history and the aura of those who came before her seeking knowledge. The library was hidden in a relatively young university she had attended merely 10 years ago and graduated with honors if left with some mental scarring.. That was the price of knowledge. Even basic educations had their taxes. Brigit, however, did not follow the same life as her fellow students at that time; she was, of course out the outside a normal human like everyone else could SEE but unknown to most, she was a Witch. A wise woman. From a long line of Scottish witches blessed with longer life spans. Her mother Precilla, being the ripe age of 150 but still looking only 45, had bequithed her this information on her 25th birthday after graduating from university. A rite of passage amongst them. She still had many secrets to learn and be earned but she had taken this one with some unease. Brigit had dreamt of having her own family that did all the normal human milestones. She'd always wished for a partner that was her equal, not some fallacy of traditional roles men and women had to play, especially in the witches world. Of course there were still designed rules and traditions in the texts she agreed with for practise but day to day life was so much different to ritual. She wanted more. The unknown kept her going. She sighed in her chair holding her favorite coffee. '' how am i going to get through all this? '' she said as she looked at a stack of twenty books piled beside her that her grandmother had recommended. A mix of classical and modern tomes big enough to kill someone if you swung them right. She brushed her long golden blonde and copper hair aside from her face, picked out a book of philosophy that had a fun looking cover and descended into its many crisp white pages. The library was quiet. Always was, peace from the world and its many endless problems brigit knew. Very few used this particular library. Its architect saw fit to make it that way for those who weren't so gifted nor interested in its contents. Brigit had still yet to find the information on the person because, by design, they had hidden it and would only reveal itself when the reader was ready. It was old wood, the door to the entrance. Stained dark mahogany. Deathly looking and imposing. Carved with gnarled faces of demons, wolves, foxes, ravens and the neutral ephagies of witches, warlocks, builders, engineers, doctors and scientists. It had brightly coloured gold or silver symbols from all over the world; religious or otherwise. All offered protection and advice. To the inhuman eye, it was an invite. To the mere human of average perception, it looked like a boring blank locked door that was no more than a janitor's closet. A clever trick, but not every human was of mere average intelligence. The library welcomed all kinds, no matter who they were, as long as they could SEE the real door they could enter. The door opened mid sentence of Nietzsche complaining about the state of the world. Brigit instinctively stopped to carefully peer over her book. She is 35 now. Only in the last ten years had very few people wandered in but today was special.... not a werewolf, not a crossbreed, not a fellow wise person, but a human. A normal, simple human being with the senses to SEE the door had come in. Brigit smirked, excited and intrigued. He was about 6ft tall, had dark hair, with ice blue eyes. A ' big boi' as her younger peers would describe it... he was neither overly muscular nor fat but just perfect in every way. Brigit had to stop herself from staring.. especially at his calm aura. He looked around like a child who'd found buried treasure. The secret hideout. Or had been given his dream car that drowned him in nostalgia. Brigit considered him to look older than the normal student... perhaps 30? 40? She would soon find out as he noticed her.... --Mysterious Stranger-- ''urgh why did i leave the house today?? i couldve been playing games and napping.'' he grumbled as he walked the halls after a job interview on campus. He'd never been here before. Got lost on the way and was about thirty minutes late for the interview. Sorry, sorry I'm so late. i got lost and getting directions was hard. He remembered mumbling, then being told he'd be seen to his relief. The interview had gone OK but he wasn't expecting anything. He left it expecting nothing. Just running away was good enough for him. The campus was utterly beautiful to his surprise. Surrounded by nature, trees and had a small lake in the middle. He decided to wander a while. The oldest building on campus looked like it was from the mid 1950's so he ventured up the hill past a modern sculpture to explore it. Its halls with wooden beams almost invited them to follow till he found the door. A voice in his head whispered go in which he reluctantly obliged. The room was a large library, an Alladin's cave of written wonders that left him in awe as he twisted his head in every direction, his mouth agape till he saw her. This woman, sitting in a high-back leather chair. She had long blonde and bronzy hair that neared her waste, a soft face with the palest complexion and these deep jade green eyes. He tried not to stare so he motioned towards her to introduce himself to find out where he was.... ''er hello, sorry to disturb you. My name is James... could you help me figure out where i am? ''
