5. Untimely Demise

Day after day, Atticus Regan was checking the progress of Raven Telecom. The company was gradually getting known throughout Datrington. Its worth was rising drastically, this is something that Atticus Regan was happy about.

"How far is the progress of Raven Telecom, I see they have started to make their name already in this country," said Harley Regan.

"I am very happy we invested in them, the worth of the company j ds increasing drastically, it is like magic in my eyes, I have not seen any company's worth increases this fast since when I have been investing in companies," said Atticus Regan.

"Well let's thank God for opening your eyes to see the opportunity many didn't see," said Harley Regan.

"Hmm, I think this is what my father was talking about before he died, if the worth keeps increasing like this, in three or four years' time we will be a billionaire," said Atticus Regan.

It was Saturday morning, the day the Regan family know to be their family day. While Atticus and Harley were discussing their investments, John ran inside their room and jumped on the bed.

"Good morning Dad and mum, how was your night?" John asked.

"Good morning my precious, we had a nice night, how about you?" Harley asked.

"My night was good, what are we having for today," said John.

"There will be a lot of action and adventure today, all we are doing starts from the amusement park," said Atticus.

John Regan was very happy, he quickly ran to take his bath in readiness for their family outing. He knew every Saturday to be a day where he, his father, and his mother go and have fun together.

"John!, John!!, John!!!," he heard his mother calling him.

"I am coming mummy, I am taking my bath," said John.

"We are going already, you were too slow in getting dressed," said Harley.

Harley Regan who was talking had not even changed from her nightgown, she was just pulling her son's legs. John started to speed up his bathing process, he knew his mum was pulling his legs, he said in his mind that "I know they cannot leave me, mummy is just pulling my legs".

"Mum, I will be downstairs in two," said John walking out of his bathroom.

After a while, John came downstairs, he saw both of his parents watching a program on the television still in their night dresses.

"Go and eat some cereals, I and your dad will go get dressed up now," said Harley. She switched off the television and went upstairs alongside Atticus.

It was a sunny day outside, Atticus Regan is currently on his way to the amusement park. It was another edition of Regan's family day, Atticus and his wife Harley normally make sure the makeup for the times they used working within the week and make John their only son happy, also not to feel lonely. After few minutes of driving, they reached the amusement park, John Regan saw some of his friends from school who also came with their parents. Like ever before John enjoyed himself to the fullest, he was even begging his parents to take him home. Atticus and Harley Regan were happy to see their son joyfully make new friends.

"Mum, Dad, I really enjoyed myself today," said John.

"Yeah, we saw that, I and your dad always want you to be happy," said Harley.

"Next weekend, I want to take you to a river and teach you how to fish, I know you would love to learn how to fish," said Atticus.

"Yes Dad, I will love to fish next weekend, will a whale be there, I also want to see a whale," said John.

"No, there are no whales in the river, if you want to see a whale, you will see it when you are on vacation from school," said Atticus.

They safely got home but it was already evening, Harley urged John to go and have cleaned up his dirty body and put on new sets of clothes. While he was taking his bath, he slipped and hit his head on the water closet. Harley Regan who was in the room heard the sound from the bathroom and she quickly ran to check what happened. When she got to the bathroom, she saw her son lying on the floor lifeless. She screamed, it caught the attention of her husband. Atticus was on the stairs when he met his wife carrying his son in her hands.

"What happened to him, talk to me," Atticus asked.

"He slipped and hit his head in the bathroom, lets get him to the hospital quickly," said Harley.

Atticus Regan drove to Amberville General Hospital on a double. John was taken from his mum and answered to by an emergency doctor. After a while, the doctor came out to talk to his parents.

"Doctor, how is my son?" Harley asked.

"All is well, he is stable already but the only problem is that a little spark of blood touched his brain, we monitored his behavior since he regained consciousness, he is still behaving normally, hopefully, the blood did not have any harm to him," said the doctor.

"Okay doctor, can we see our son now?" Harley asked.

"Sure, you can see him already but avoid making noise when you are with him, it might disturb his brain," the doctor said.

Atticus and Harley quickly entered the ward where their son was to check how he is doing. After few discussions with him, they saw he was in a good and normal state, with no memory loss. Harley Regan pitied her son lying on the hospital bed, she said in her mind "I will never allow him to take his bath by himself anymore"

When John hit his head after slipping in his bathroom. He found himself in front of a man wearing all white apparel, he offered him the chance to pick one among the following three supernatural powers, ¹The Ability to control metal and water in all its states, ²Telephaty and mind control, ³Enhanced Vision, and Remote Viewing. After telling him, the man further explained what the supernatural powers can do thoroughly so John will know what he was picking. John said he would love to know what is in everyone's mind and also have the power to influence what is in their mind so he picked the second supernatural power, Telepathy and mind control. So John heard what his mum said in her mind.

"No, I will continue to take my bath myself, I promise this will never happen again," said John.

"No one said you will not take your bath by yourself, just get well quick," said Atticus.

Harley was shocked because John replied to what she said in her mind, John replied it. Harley was thinking, "how come he knew what was in my mind", she said in her mind.

"Mum, I can hear anything you say in your mind, I was gifted this supernatural power after I fell in the bathroom," John said in Harley's mind.

"Oh my God" Harley screamed.

"Darling, what is the matter, why did you scream so loud," Atticus asked.

"It is nothing" Harley replied.

The doctor who was attending to John, ran inside the ward after hearing Harley's scream while he was passing by. The doctor told Atticus and Harley to leave the ward for disturbance after he confirmed all was well with his patient. John was discharged the next day and Atticus alongside Harley continued their day-to-day activities at work within the week. Atticus was always monitoring the progress of Raven Telecom.

Time flew like a thief in the night, it was two years already, the third month of the year. John was halfway done with high school while his parents were ready to retire from their various works and start up a business for themselves. Raven Telecom was already among the most valuable companies in Datrington, undoubtedly the second-best telecommunication company in Datrington behind Arktel. Atticus was very happy about investing in the company two years ago because sales of their shares were currently the best and most promising in the stock market. At his workplace, the general manager was very angry at the persons who told him not to invest in Raven Telecom, he promised to extend disciplinary actions towards them.

The general manager of Riverstar Bank organized an urgent meeting for all top position holders in the bank at the end of March after paying all staff salaries. He accused all Atticus's friends of the financial downfall of the bank and for the bank running on debts.

"I suggested that we use part of the bank's money to invest in Raven Telecom but you guys refused, now see how successful the company has become compared to the s**t you made me invest in, there are rumors that a wealthy man wants to purchase Raven Telecom, do you know how much all the shareholders will gain because the company is now worth over two billion ravs." the general manager said.

"Well I have seen that most of you guys never wished for a great future for this bank so the holder of the following positions are sacked, Financial Advisor, Financial Analyst, Credit Analyst, Loan Officer, Asset Manager, and Mortgage Consultant, two of the mentioned position holder did nothing wrong but this organization does not have enough funds to cater for those posts" the general manager added.

Atticus Regan never heard about the wealthy man who is about to purchase Raven Telecom until the general manager of Riverstar Bank said it. All his friends were jealous of Atticus Regan because he was not sacked instead he was praised for being the only supportive person. The six of them then started to plan a coup against Atticus.

A few days later, all the shareholders at Raven Telecom were summoned for an urgent meeting. Atticus Regan did not go to work in order to attend the meeting, on getting there, he met all his friends and also the general manager of Riverstar Bank, he was surprised to see those familiar faces. When the meeting commenced they all then knew the purpose of the meeting. They were summoned because a buyer was ready to pay ten billion ravs and the majority shareholders which are the founders of the company were ready to sell. After many discussions, they all agreed to sell their shares to the interested buyer. The buyer was a wealthy politician who also owns an oil company.

Atticus Regan's share of the money was three billion, after he transferred his shares to the man, he was credited three billion ravs. This made him the richest man in Amberville, his name had joined some of the wealthiest men in Datrington. The story flew very fast, all the television stations carried it, John and Harley were jubilating at home already, they were proud of their father and husband respectively. All Atticus's friends were not happy about his breakthrough, instead, they started planning on how to take all the money from him.

"Congratulations dad, we watched you on the television," said John after hugging his father.

"Why are you restless in mind dad" be asked.

"All is well my son, I'm just stressed, I had a long day today," said Atticus.

"Darling, go upstairs and freshen up, I have prepared a delicious meal for you," said Harley.

Atticus insisted he would eat first, so when he freshen up, he would sleep. Immediately after eating, he heard three knocks on the door. John told his dad not to open the door that what knocked on the door is dangerous, his dad refused and said "this is Amberville, the safest state in Datrington".

"Dad please don't open the door" was the last thing John said before Atticus opened the door. At the door, he saw Jeremiah Beckman with someone pointing a gun at his head, they entered Atticus' house, they were all six in number that entered. John ran to the basement to call the cops but he was spotted by the Intruders.

"If you comply nothing will happen to you or your family," said one of the masked men that entered Atticus's house.

"I'm sorry Atticus, they used me as bait to get to you," said Jeremiah Beckman.

They asked Atticus to transfer all the money he sold his shares at Raven Telecom for to a foreign account. At gunpoint, Atticus transferred it but he wanted to know who the thieves were so he removed one of them's masks and he saw it was Callum Foster. Then he knew it was his colleagues at the bank that came to rob him. Instantly, they started hearing the siren of the cops, Callum Foster out of anger shot Atticus and his wife with his gun. He was going for John who was in the basement when Atticus screamed "John!!! Run as fast as you can". Callum Foster shot Atticus again then they started chasing John after breaking down the basement door.

Meanwhile, an old friend of Atticus Regan with his wife was flying from Astrana to Datrington. Simpson Reid and Martha Reid were heading to Atticus' house to congratulate him on his breakthrough. Unfortunately, when they got to his house, it was surrounded by the cops, when they asked what happened, they were told that Atticus Regan and his wife were shot dead a few minutes ago by unknown armed men.

The pain was too much for Simpson and Martha Reid to bear, they just entered their car, reversed, and started heading to the airport. Not far away from Atticus' house, they saw a young boy rolling down the hill close to the road. They stopped where the boy landed and put him in their car.

"What could he have been doing up there," said Simpson Reid.

"First let us take him to the hospital and know about him," said Martha Reid.
