Moving
Insecure In her skin
Like a puppet, a girl on a string
Broke away. Learned to fly
If you want her back gotta let her shine
So it looks like the joke's on you
'Cause the girl that you thought you knew
She's so gone
That's so over now
She's so gone
You won't find her around
You can look but you won't see
The girl I used to be
'Cause she's She's so gone
As we drove to Epirus, in our Jeep, I listened to She’s So Gone. You may find it funny but it calms me down. I’m a kinda weird person. My name is Kiera Huxhold. I have stormy grey eyes. I got them from my mom, Nisha. I have black hair that’s darker than the night sky. My mom said it’s from my dad's side. I’m albino, which she also said was from my dads side. I already figured that part out from the fact that my mom has roasted almond colored skin.
I was bullied a lot when I was a kid. My mom said that there was a place there where I would finally be safe. That’s the main reason we’re moving across the world. People would bully me so bad that I finally couldn’t take it and I...Umm never mind how about we talk about my dad now, yeah? Okay.
I never met my dad. My mom said he was some rich CEO of a huge business, but he died before I was born. She said that he left his money to us and that’s why we always have a good house whenever we move. I learned to not miss him, but sometimes I envy people who have a whole family. I know this sounds stupid but I do. My mom hasn’t gone out on a date since he died. She said that she will wait for him, or whatever that means. I have one and only friend, wait no, best friend. His name is Jesus. He is pretty short for his age, he’s 14 turning 15 next month. He skipped a grade that’s why we were in the same class. I talk to him everyday. I have known him since grade school. He was there for me during all the drama with my almost suici-
“Kiera, hello, earth to K.K.!” Someone interrupted my thoughts. I took out my earbuds and turned to see a very worried face. “ Yes, mom?” I said with a sigh. “What do you think of our new home?” s**t, I didn’t realize we were already at the house we are staying at. She asked in a fake cheerful tone. “I don’t know. I guess it’s cool..” I knew I was understating it. The house was gorgeous. There was a huge balcony which I guessed was mine. My mom always tries to give me the best room because she always feels bad. I don’t know why, she did nothing wrong.
It looked like there were about three floors. The balcony was on the very top. “ - The kitchen is on the first floor. And the library is on the top floor with your room. My room is on the first floor. The movie room and the slumber chambers is on the second for you and your friends.” She said the last sentence with hopefulness. “ Yeah, umm thanks mom.” Her smile dropped a little, and I instantly felt bad. I hate to make her sad. “ Hey, don’t worry, I have a good feeling about this one, okay. You don’t have to worry about me. I promise.” I knew I was lying. I’m an outsider, and freak everywhere I go. But I couldn’t stand to have her miss out on her life just worrying about me.
Her smile returned but her eyes still held worry in them.
I looked outside at the house again and noticed where it was located for the first time. It was in the middle of the woods. I knew then that if I had any extra time in my days here, which of course I would, I would spend it hunting. Behind us was the only road into the city which was about 70 miles in.
I’ll have to see if there are any Bowes and Arrows in town later, but I’ll have to make sure mom doesn’t find out. “ Mom, let’s go.” I said with real cheerfulness for the first time. As she heard that all the worry fell from her face and she said “ Race ya!” And ran inside.
