Chapter 20
Pipers POV
As they walked through the front door, the smell of BBQ hit Piper's nose with enough force to make her mouth water. BBQ was one of her favorites, and by the smell of it, Mom pulled all the punches. She could smell chicken, ribs, burgers, Kielbasa, corn, and she swore she could even smell the salads. She gave Wyatt a puzzled look and he smiled at her. “I take it you are starting to get your shifter senses. All of your senses will be sharper now, but your sense of smell will be phenomenal. Just as phenomenal as that BBQ smells. I swear my mouth is watering.”
Piper smiled and led him outback to the patio. Terry and Bennett were already there helping set the table. There was a huge tray piled with BBQ chicken and ribs, another tray with burgers, kielbasa, and grilled corn on the cob, macaroni salad, potato salad, pasta salad, grilled green beans and garlic butter, rolls, and three large pitchers of lemonade. Piper’s stomach growled just looking at it all.
Piper’s mother turned around and saw them hold hands and smiled. “Looks like you two had a good afternoon. Come sit down and everyone dig in. I want no leftovers so I hope you are all hungry.”
Wyatt pulled Piper’s chair out for her and she smiled a thank you at him. He reached for a plate and asked, “A little of everything, Love?” Piper blushed as she nodded.
Bennett started rubbing his hands together and bouncing on the balls of his feet. “I can guarantee no leftovers ma’am. I have been daydreaming about this all day.”
Carla snarled at Bennett, “Bennett, I have a feeling you will be like the son I never wanted, but I am going to tell you right now, if you ever call me ma’am again, you will never have pups.” The look of fear and surprise on Bennett’s face made the entire group laugh even harder.
“Ok I will call you Ma then,” he responded. Carla just laughed and threw a burger bun at him and hit him between the eyes.
Everyone laughed and began to dig in. Terry looked at Wyatt and Piper and smiled. It was good to see his best friend finally happy. It had been a long time since he smiled like this. And he definitely didn’t smile like this with Rebecca. Terry was beginning to think Rebecca was just a space warmer till Piper came around. He would never tell Wyatt that though. He laughed and smiled so easily. Like he finally had someone to help with the huge weight on his shoulders. It took a lot out of a man, caring for a pack of 500 wolves. And Wyatt worked hard at it. He had doubled the pack since he had taken over after his fathers death. The Elders were a little skeptical, having him take over at 16 with only Bennett’s father to guide him, but Wyatt proved them all wrong.
As everyone finished their dinner, Derek excused himself from the table. He came back out of the kitchen a few minutes later with a three layer cheesecake. Bennett’s eyes grew to the size of saucers and he said. “Holy s**t! What in the f**k is that?” This earned him a slap behind the head from Carla.
“That, young mouthpiece, is Derek’s triple layer cheesecake. First layer is a chocolate raspberry, the second layer is a turtle, and the third layer is a caramel. When you take a bite of all three layers at once, it is like an orgasm in your mouth,” Carla smiled at all the young wolves' red faces.
Derek cut the cake and handed everyone a piece. Piper had had it before so she knew what to expect, but as the guys took their first bites, a chorus of moans erupted around the table. Bennett’s eyes even rolled into the back of his head.
“Derek, how the hell did you come up with this, it’s amazing!” Wyatt said around a mouthful.
“Well, one night I couldn't decide what kind of dessert I wanted, so I went to the store and bought all three cheesecakes, stacked them on top of eachother, a viola. Carla yelled at me until she tried it.” he chuckled.
As they all enjoyed their desert, Piper couldn’t help but notice the sun sink below the tree line. Time was running out fast. She looked over and met Wyatt's eyes and the last rays disappeared and twilight began to take over.
